I was in the process of buying a car and they sold the car after running my credit. Would not recommend this place to anyon.

Pretty disappointed, I purchased a certified pre-owned vehicle and was told by the finance person to make sure I got an extra key as this is part of the package when buying a certified pre-owned vehicle. My research on line also confirmed that two keys are to be provided. I have spent the last week trying to get this key only to be told that the previous owner of the car did not hand in an extra key and that I could get "help with the cost" of purchasing a new key. Basically, I am not getting what was promised to me after two weeks of getting the run around. I will not purchase another car from this dealership. read more

extremely disgusted. my brand new car is DANGEROUS to drive and after over a month of replacing parts and being told each and every time "that we drove it a couple of hundred miles and it's perfectly safe, the car was released." I drove it a few blocks each time to the bypass and almost was plowed into by traffic because the driving that car was still dangerous. They have replaced MANY MAJOR components in my new car and I still don't have it. They keep asking what i want-- what do i want? A working car that i paid for. They are not providing that or any kind of solution. I have to pull teeth to get someone to speak to me. Mark the supervisor, never returned my calls from two days ago or followed up about it's status as he empathized with me and assured me that he would. Hyundai customer service has people with very difficult accents telling me things that are not true, because when i call back- there is an entirely different story. ANd they NEVER call back-- I have to keep trying to get a person. The dealership said they contacted the "field office" who never returned the request and it wasn't even followed up on. So here i am, still without a car, or a resolution or someone to talk to all the while i am in desparate need of a vehicle by now. read more

Horrible experience with this dealership. I have never been treated this badly - if there was a zero, I would have given them that. They don't return calls or messages. They recommended a deal with me that I told them I would accept and they turned around and said that couldn't do the deal they proposed. They told me they would have the owner call me, and, of course I never heard from him. They sent me a quote 3 times with Pennsylvania registration - I told them I live in DC -they said they would correct it but never did. 12-27-24 This is a dealership that hides hidden cost into their proposal. The first proposal list I had showed $1542.37 dealer accessories. I had that removed and taken off. They did not take off the monetary amount but just the writing. Slick. They still did Pa. tax on it which showed they kept the $1542.37 in but not listed. n(cost) * .06= T(Pa. tax amount. That's why you learn algebra. Secondly they add a rebate in the cost as a plus instead of a negative. That's why you learn about positive and negative numbers. Although their original proposal sounded good verbally; what you pay is totally different from what you pay. This along with other mistakes totaled $917.37 Total overcharge $2459.74 Run from this place because it is smoke and mirrors. I had a pleasant experience here in 2018 when I bought my car from them. But about two years into the loan, I started getting their offers to buy back my car. I didn't want to sell my car back, so I disregarded the letters. But a few months ago I received another letter, with a very nice offer on my Hyundai from Colonial. So i reached out to the dealership since my car was 5 years old, and asked if this was a legitimate offer, or just some sort of come-on to get me in the door. Lou Ziegler replied quickly and said the letter was NOT any sort of come-on. He even went so far as to say the value given in the letter is frequently EXACTLY what they'd end up giving me on a trade for my 2018. I disclosed the mileage on my vehicle in an email to him, and he still said that trade offer in the letter could be a little lower or a little greater than what I'd get on a 2023 purchase. He said I would get an INCREDIBLE DEAL (see attachment) Well here's my advice to you when you receive a trade offer in the mail on your Colonial Hyundai. Throw it immediately in the trash. You don't even have to open it. Just trash can it. Because my letter indicated I would get $16, 849 as a trade. And in reality, the best offer they made me in person was $7000. It wasn't even HALF of what they offered in the letter. So despite what they'll tell you, that letter is ABSOLUTELY a come-on to get you in the door, so they can low-ball you once you've arrived. It is a bold-faced LIE so you'll think you'll get some sort of loyalty deal going back to them. And maybe you'll like their new 2023 vehicle so much, you'll accept their low-ball offer on your trade and take an extreme loss on the deal. The KBB value of my car was between $8500-11000 and they wouldn't even come within $1500 of the low end of that. The other LIE they told me to get me in the door, what that a vehicle could be ordered from the factory with a different transmission. I wanted my new car to have a 6-speed manual, and Lou said it might take a few months, but it could be done (see attachment) Then once I was in their showroom, I'm advised the bad news that this indeed CANNOT be done. The only thing I hate more than wasting money, is wasting time. And that's why I told him in my email what the mileage was on my 2018. I told him in another email I wanted a manual transmission. But none of it mattered. Because his strategy was to tell lie after lie so I would show up at a dealership an hour away from where I live, just to be disappointed. But the end result of this horrible experience at Colonial Hyundai of Downingtown, PA is - They have converted me to being a Mazda owner. I have a beautiful, fully loaded Mazda 3 now (see third attachment) It has the manual transmission I wanted, power sunroof, heads up display on the windshield, lane guidance, three years of free navigation, power everything, 12 speaker Bose stereo system, etc. Heritage Mazda in Bel Air, MD made me a fair offer for my trade, they came down a little on the sticker price of their car, and the follow-up communications with them have been outstanding. My credit score is 825 so the loan was approved instantly, and I put nearly 50% down to keep my payments manageable. This could've happened at Colonial, if they were honest and up front with people. But despite what they'll tell you (see attachment again) they are not honest. And I can see why they have 2 out of 5 stars with Yelp. If I could give them a zero-star rating, I would have. read more

Called to buy a car. Spoke with salesman named Tom by telephone. He gave me the MSRP price of the car and all the documentation fees, etc... The then tells me his dealership adds a $3,000 "Market Adjustment" fee on top of all other fees. I told him no thanks. I called Franklin Sussex Hyundai in NJ. They charged me MSRP and told me that I am entitled to a small Veteran's discount. Salesman was upfront, honest and a pleasure to talk to. Spoke with Lou Z several times about a Chevy VOLT. I told him I needed the EV battery charged and discussed why. Went to look at it. The meeting was in a tent. We were told Lou was their internet sales person. They handed me off to a new sales-person. Took it for a test drive. The car was listed as black/burgundy interior, actually black and tan interior (sort of ugly but I needed a car) . The battery was charged to about 10%. The price I was given was Cash $20,377 but after the test ride, he disappeared and came back with at price about $1000 more. He explains "Here it is in the fine print" $999 charge for car prep, blah blah blah. Lou had given me a list o the car prep, Approx $250 (for parts) + $200 (labor) to change oil and filter, rotate tires, replace air filter and cabin air filter. Plus xxx for gold star car prep, total came close to $999. I car was PA inspected and I live in MD. The told me if the car fails MD inspection we can come back and buy another car, no return policy. Nasty female sales manager came out. I asked if they could have it inspected in MD, without letting me finish why question she tells me in a nasty way "That's illegal". I was to add "for informational purposes only, not for a Valid MD inspection. But b$$$$ didn't let me finish. So we left. Found a better car cheaper with a 30 return policy the next day. Colonial Hyundai Oct. 24/25, 2022 Owner - John Ashdale Salesman - Jim Ballezzi Attempted to purchase a Hyundai Santa Cruz. During the process salesman Jim Balezzi was verbally and physically threatening and abusive. Mr. Balezzi attempted and semi-succeded in bullying/threatening us into buying a vehicle all the while the owner, John Ashdale, listened in and did nothing himself to stop Mr. Balezzi. Mr. Balezzi verbally threatened the owner of "Joey's Pizza" that he was going to have him arrested/have the cops called on him for overcharging him for a pizza delivery that he purchased for us so we would stay at the dealership and not leave. He verbally abused/threatened this owner over the phone where all employees and customers could hear. This intimidated me enough that I went outside and called my bank to cancel the loan due to his threatening/bullying behavior. When I returned back inside Mr. Ballezzi had my bank rep on speaker phone pretending to be me and verbally giving the bank rep my social security number, address, and date of birth. I never authorized the release of this information nor for Mr. Ballezzi to write it down nor say it out loud verbally. Mr. Ballezzi was pretending to be me, giving out very private/sensitive information so he could complete a sale all the while the Owner, John Ashdale, sat feet away listening and allowing for this to occur and proceed. Mr. Balezzi charged my credit card $3,000 for a down payment and an additional $75 as a processing "fee." The dealership refused to immediately refund my card. Mr. Balezzi threw my card at me and stated "you'll get a check in 2 to 3 weeks in the mail." I persisted and he refused to refund the $75 processing fee. I contacted owner John Ashdale via email and phone. During the phone conversation he admitted that everything Mr. Balezzi did was unprofessional. Now Mr. Ashdale and Mr. Balezzi are bullying me into returning the spare key, and will not come retrieve it themselves. I feel intimidated. read more

I was contacted fairly soon after my inquiry on a Ford Escape 2013 145k miles 7000$. When I arrived everyone was welcoming. Friendly. Hospitable. The place was pretty clean as can be. I explained a bit of my situation. I was side-swiped with my kids on the 4th of July. My car was totaled. My 2010 was worth nothing, but everything to US. After getting all that I could together, I managed to pull 7000$ out of my hat- single mother of 3, moved from that area, two jobs, living in Bucks now... - I left with a 2015 Toyota Camry 20,800$ 79k miles "below market price" I have found SEVERAL Cams for less, with even less mileage, even more specs! 2018 Cam with 38k miles digital speedometer, surround camera, 1 owner for 22$. I have found a 2016 Cam with the same specs but 64k miles and 18k$. Sure makes me feel defeated living in a world run by men! They assure you they're getting you AND your kids "The best deal" A LIE! Ofc no return policy. A 72mo lease. 7000$ less and 1mo. missed rent ... Maintenance required light came on the day after purchase due for an oil change (I live 1hr 30min from Downingtown). Beware they are adding a 12% added charge which they call 'after market'. Plus there are other costs for things you might not want but I'm sure are high markup items for them. Came in to trade in a car and purchase one of their used cars. Salesman didn't listen at all to what we wanted from the car (CarPlay was a #1 feature) and showed us multiple cars that didn't fit our description at all. Failed to listen to the budget we had for the car. When we found one we could be interested in, we noticed on the test drive that it had a high number of miles (90k). The salesman then told us the car had a full engine replacement, which was subsequently backed up by his manager and the GM of the dealership, and were told to 'trust them'. We did not receive a single document showing this engine change. The GM has stopped emailing us back, indicating that it was a complete lie and they were trying to get us to buy a high mileage, no warranty car by lying about an entire engine replacement. I sure hope people start to read these reviews before doing business with this location!! Here is what you can expect... hidden fees!! They do not put all of the fees on their lease agreements so if you want to purchase the car at the end of the lease... expect hidden fees! Also.. be prepared... the hidden fees are different for each person!! So you might be charged $1K in fees not noted in your contract at all while another person may be charged $800.00!! I'd like to think they just randomly pull a number outta the air but I think it might be based on something far worse given the current state of our country!! They are unaware or just don't care how the program works and tried to offer us $2000 less than the Instant Cash Offer price without even seeing the car. Shady, shady,shady. Sales person tells me that they should be able to meet my deal parameters only to go back on their word. I run the deal using their online tool and they come back at $150 higher. They attempted to charge me over MSRP even though the vehicle is listed at MSRP on the website. The manager states that although the website shows MSRP that doesn't necessarily mean that it is their price. Steer clear of this place. read more

There are so many things that bothered me about my purchase from Colonial. This dealership is deceptive and non-transparent. We went in to buy a car. Their website indicated they had about 10 we would have looked at. When we got there, the only vehicles available were two high end Tuscons. We were told we would get $6.5K for our trade-in. What they meant was they would raise the sticker price $4K and give us the $2500 in incentives available. No offer sheet was presented. Some numbers written on a pad. In reality, we got nothing for our trade-in. Later, our loan came in at 5% when it should have been 3.5%. We were told we could not pay off the loan for 4 months. Nothing on our loan agreement stated this. I refinanced for 3.49% in a week.We also were not provided copy of all documents we signed at the dealership. You will want to stay far away. they advertised a car I wanted to get for my son who just started driving. on Facebook it was listed for $1990. After testing the car and all we decided we wanted it. My wife and son were with me. they came back with a price of $4080. That is more than double the price. They said they had a hidden additional price of 990 that was added besides taxes and tags. I said no. They said you can take it or leave it someone else is ready to buy the car right now. I said no. They sold it. Before I left I asked for information. The GM David Smith said he would help me out he had a trade in on a newer car. He said more than once he would sell it to me for 2500 out the door. I said I would consider it. I had him put it in writing before I left along with the car fax and vehicle Vin. he calls me and tells me it is ready. So after I'm on my way he sends me text trying to up the price. I get there and look it over and decide ok I'll take it at the agreed upon price. they come back with a total of $3947. I said that isn't what was agreed upon. The price was 2850 + 598 transportation delivery fee. OWNERS BEWARE - We bought a 2017 Sonata from Colonial Hyundai and have had a few oil changes and inspections done there for the Sonata and my Mazda CX-5. I use Mobil 1 oil and WIX oil filters in my cars and supply both whenever I have oil changes. I had both cars in for oil changes in late January, and the service QUALITY was offensive - a SOLID ZERO. Mazda CX-5 Colonial completed the oil change, but on my drive home I realized that they hadn't returned the unused oil from the 6-pack of oil that I provided. I checked the dipstick and found that their mechanic filled the engine with 6 quarts of oil instead of the 4.5 quarts that should have been used... overfilling with 33% excess oil is dangerous for the engine! I returned the car and they drained the oil and put in the required 4.5 quarts. The mechanic slopped oil all over the engine cover (see picture), so I will remove cover and clean up his mess. Sonata They completed the oil change and inspection, and suggested changing the engine and cabin air filters; they also said that a field mouse had built a nest in the air intake housing. I told them that I would buy and install the filters myself, and they agreed to clean out nest and debris from the air intake housing since the filter had already been removed. I removed the old engine air filter today and found that the huge mouse nest was still there, so rather than vacuum and remove the debris (see picture) as agreed, the Colonial mechanic just reinstalled the old filter. With the size of the nest, very likely that he didn't push all of debris to the inlet side of filter, and I suspect that some of the debris was sucked into the engine. I cleaned up the mess and installed new filter today. Bottom line - OWNERS BEWARE An abundance of incompetence and no apparent oversight for the shoddy service work performed there. This disregard for customer property seems to be a common theme at Colonial, and they have lost my trust and future business. read more

liars & thieves ! i was approved for a car at this dealer , i put down money, transferred my tags & put the car under my insurance policy. upon picking up my vehicle , i received a text telling me my car was sold to someone else. the car had a sold sign in the window with my name on it & somehow it was sold to someone else. the gm lied to me & told me my financing didnt fall thru - called the lender & they told me i was good to go & that the dealership was being sketchy. the rep that helped me with this particular vehicle was nowhere to be found & my deposit & license plate was left with the lot staff! the owner was there & said that he would assist me with getting another vehicle & he would call me when the vehicle was ready - i never received a call! ended up going to another dealer because clearly these guys lack accountability, professionalism, & honesty. from the reviews, they have made good deals in the past with other customers , however this was by far the worst car buying experience for me ! read more

Went to the service department to get a small issue fixed. Dropped it off on Friday. I was told they had to order a part, but it wouldn't be in until Tuesday. Did not get any phone calls or updates on Tuesday. I had to call them. First I thought my car was there then they said they didn't have the keys. Then they let me know that the part came in but they didn't open it and it won't be ready for another day. I will never go back here again. Six days for $100 issue. read more

i honestly wish I could do less of a rating. these people have absolutely no idea whats going on. Got my motor replaced here, and after 2 months(almost 3) i got my car back. The very next day the car started to steam and overheat. They literally didn't connect the clamps for the coolant/radiator lines. I wish it was a joke but im dead seriou. so i get it back and have it for maybe 2 months runs alright, kinda jumpy here and there with a minor sputter. Next thing yaknow its calling a misfire in the head cylinder, dude they replaced my motor and so much other under warranty items and completely disregarded my plugs and coils. Do not trust this dealership! I researched a used car, brought it to my mechanic where they found a host of issues. I brought it back to the dealer and they tried to push back that the car had been reviewed by their mechanics and nothing was wrong. Well i negotiated that if they fix the problems and my mechanic gives the thumbs up, then i would buy it for the listed price (which is hidden as they only post trade in prices). When they looked into the issues my mechanic found, they realized the engine was about to fail. Their mechanics missed that this car was absolute junk. I spent 6 hours on this process for nothing. The owner promised he would make it right as he spends tons on advertising and promised a good deal on another vehicle within a couple days. After multiple attempts to get in touch, i have been ghosted by the dealership. No offers on any other similar vehicles. The mechanics cant be trusted, and the owner promises the world but delivers nothing and hopes you go away. This review probably means nothing to them but it represents a full days work of wasted time and multiple attempts over weeks of frustration to try and follow up. Don't shop here, especially with the downturn in the market coming. read more

Having the worst experience with this dealer. Purchased a nice used Jetta they had and that's where the decent experience ended. The car was purchased for cash in January (way before Covid) and today is 6/30. I still don't have the title!! Numerous calls and emails and still nothing. Title person only works 3 days a week and has no answers or proof the title is with the state. My local tags location tells me this is totally F'd up and no way should I be waiting this long. Sent an email to the GM who has not answered me. I will be involving my attorney next week. All the 1 star reviews are totally accurate. read more

Wow! So many bad reviews..I can certainly say that I know why. I leased a Hyundai Ioniq in Dec 2020. I called them beforehand as I knew these cars were difficult to find, and there was a super good lease deal from Hyundai. They had not heard of this lease deal (?) and asked me for proof, which I had. He asked me to text it to his personal cell number. They were able to obtain a vehicle from another state. The communication during this period was definitely lacking, even though the salesperson, Michael Wilkinson, assured me he always stays in touch throughout the process and afterwards. When we picked up the car, we waited FOREVER...But the salesman did try to go over as much of the car as he understood.. He knew nothing about the all-electric version and kept referring back to his personally owned hybrid, which, quite frankly, we didn't care about. But I did tell him he did a good job going over the car because I had no idea, until later, he left out some information because he was uneducated on this vehicle. We told him our apt complex has charging stations and asked if the supplied cord would work. He said "That's all I use!" We looked at the cable and knew it wouldn't work with our charging station, but he assured us it would. In the meantime, we researched what kind of cord we needed, but there were a few different options. We used public charging stations until we could speak with the salesperson for more information. I left a message on his v/m. No response. He had given me his personal cell number, so my husband tried texting hi, multiple times. He did respond, saying he would get back to us.. Never did. The following week, he finally answered his phone and told me he received no communication from us. (what? you answered our text. it was a blow-off, but an answer nonetheless). I proceeded to explain our problem and asked for help with finding the right cable. He had absolutely no clue what I meant. I was trying to describe the outlet (similar to a dryer outlet) but he just kept saying to plug into a household outlet! He said if we figure it out to give him a call back so he can know too!!! Um, yeah, I was sure to do that. Here we are, end of April, and still no state registration. Leaving messages with multiple people..no response. Finally, the very nice woman answering the phone told me exactly who I needed to speak with. I called her the next day and she told me she would get a copy out to me the same day. Eventually it starts. Won't even look at the starter. My mechanic said he can see shavings below the starter indicating something could be wrong. They don't want to honor my extended warranty.
