Rusty Cannon Motel - Clean, modern bathroom

Seems many of the guests are contractors for the local propane gas company who come and go often. The reception/breakfast area includes a very pleasant sofa. a TV and several dining tables. There is a highchair available as well. A pot of coffee is often on for guests throughout the day and tea available to brew. The full size fridge holds milk for your coffee/tea and breakfast cereal, plus an assortment of other items like yogurt and juice. In the freezer are a few microwave items for breakfast like sausages and pastry. Breakfast is 'self serve' and consists of coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, cereal, granola bars, pastry, some bread and such to toast, the frozen items and perhaps a banana or apple. Basic fare, but as much as you like. The sticky buns were enormous. Check the fridge for other items like butter or cream cheese. The bathroom in the room was very clean with plenty of towels. The soaps, shampoo and conditioner brand names. Lots of toilet paper. My toiletry bag has a hook and I hung it from the towel rack. Not a lot of storage space for personal items but it was fine for us. There is a hair dryer on the wall. No closet in the room, and we did not ask if there is an iron available. There is a place to leave your luggage open and a dresser. There are several hooks on the wall by the window. The heater is on the wall below the window and operates through an on wall thermostat that the guest controls. Our view out back was of a small field and stream. Besides a king sized bed, the room contained a mini fridge, work area, love seat, TV and coffee table. Each piece, although a bit worn, was in working order and comfortable. Wifi is free, as is breakfast. Your room key also opens the outside security doors. Be sure to pull your room door tight and hear the 'click' when leaving for the day. We stayed at this location because it was close to people we were visiting. A couple of places for food or shopping in this town, however on a Sunday nothing was open. During the week it may be a different story, but there are other places within a 30 min, scenic drive. For our overnight it was a fine choice and for truckers who come and go weekly I can see how it would be a nice home away from home.

Clean, convenient, friendly - and perhaps the only Hampton Inn I've stayed at where *everything* in the bathroom worked like it's supposed to. I've been keeping a mental list of bathroom flaws at Hampton Inns: Sink drains slowly, no stopper in sink, sink stopper pull doesn't work, faucet handle is loose, water is scalding hot except for at extreme 'Cold' travel of knob, sink water pressure is low, sink water pressure is ok but shower water pressure is barely a trickle, shower drains slowly, toilet paper holder is loose, et cetera --- except for the Hampton Inn in Corning-Painted Post, where everything worked as it should! Hurray! The breakfast area was clean and well-tended. Apparently HI has done away with the free cookies they used to have. Didn't see any during my recent vacation.

The grounds are well manicured. The bed was comfortable and the pillows are plentiful. The location cannot be beat. We had dinner and drinks at the Blue Pointe Grille the night we arrived. I was a little hesitant to eat at the hotel restaurant. I was bracing to be disappointed. Service was on point and cocktails were well made. Food was delicious. We had a high top in the bar right near a window for a nice view of the lake. Highly recommend.

It's rare that I'm dazzled by a hotel or feel that it's worth the money (they're all stupid…read moreexpensive these days), but Harbor Hotel was a wonderful experience I'd recommend to anyone. Don't get me wrong, it's expensive. But for once I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth! Everything everywhere was meticulously clean and well-kept. Our room was spacious and bright, with a private balcony and chairs, a couch and coffee table, and a full table that allowed us to take comfortable advantage of the room service breakfast. Potpourri sachets in the closet, free water bottles in the lobby, free coffee stations on each floor, and chocolates every night on the pillows--details, people! We also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub, and of course the gorgeous patio and firepits overlooking the lake which was 80% of the reason we booked here. All of the staff we encountered, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were very friendly. I did think it was a little strange that the fitness center was in a whole different building and you have to walk across the parking lot to get to it, but hey--you get your steps in. The hotel is also very centrally located. On the water, of course, but next door to Seneca Harbor Station from which you can book lake cruises. It's also less than a mile from the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park and hiking trails and only a 5-10 minute walk from most restaurants. We did most things on foot. When you do get back in the car, there are multiple wineries within a 15-minute drive. The only problem the whole visit was the hotel internet, which was terrible every day. You could make do in the daytime, but at night, when everyone was back in their rooms after the day out exploring, it was slow to the point of unusable, and I ended up turning on my data hotspot to even be able to check my email. I would not suggest bringing time-sensitive work with you, and you should not expect to be able to stream videos on your devices. Just disconnect, you'll be less frustrated. There is an onsite restaurant and bar, and while it's nothing mind-blowing, it is a nice option to have (and is one of the few "higher end" type places in Watkins Glen). Menu includes a few of the standard local wines, which was nice!
