We ended up having to move out 2 days before our wedding in the beginning of December. The next day I could not get my mail or anything from the building. Management did not communicate with us regarding turnover. Management then got rid of all of our personal belongings in our garage, including family heirlooms, family pictures, furniture( one of which was my great grandmothers that she crocheted the backing and pedal stool), tools, motocross bikes etc. When reaching out to Lori who works at Haven she told us "it wasn't her problem and she doesn't have time for this". She also stated, " you should have paid $7000 to break your lease ‍ not my problem". I would NOT recommend moving here as the management is unprofessional and inconsiderate! They do not care about the individuals living in the apartment or those moving out. All they care about is their bottom line! A simple phone call regarding turnover, property removal, etc. could be the difference between generations of memories wrongfully disposed ! DO NOT MOVE HERE. Their google review has been skewed as since my post they had asked 16 people post positive remarks regarding staff and management instead of reaching out to us regarding their wrongful disposal of our personal belongings... pretty desperate if you ask me.

I can count the problems with SE on one hand. Half the time it was an issue with the building management. They respond quickly, even on weekends. There's good and bad in all rental properties even the high end properties. The key in my personal opinion is the staff that run the operation...maintenance ppl, property managers, contractors...the people who really deal with tenants. I don't get things I need/want right away but if it's serious they are here. Any job dealing with the public is hard but the front line staff here make a difference

The…read morestaff is fantastic - they bend over backwards to make sure you are taken care of and that everything is going well. It's a great location and it only takes a few minutes to get anywhere in the city. It is within walking distance of the bars and shops in Shadyside which is convenient and the park next door is great for early morning runs. The apartments are modern and although the pool is small, there is a nice area to hang out around it. My biggest complaint is the construction going on around the apartment. Most of it happens during the day while I'm working so it isn't too much of an inconvenience and as soon as they pave the road to the parking garage I will hardly notice it at all. That should be done in the next week or two so after that is done I would give these apartments 5 stars.

Want an extra key? That'll cost you $100 because you can't make copies on your own. Get locked out because you only have one key, that'll cost you another $100 just to get let into your apartment. Forget to renew your autopay, that'll cost you another $100. Does your trash happen to clog the trash shoot? There's also a fee for that. They also don't provide a way to dispose of cardboard boxes without walking all the way to the basement of the building which is a huge inconvenience that you will experience on a regular basis. Similarly, you will have to walk all the way to the front door any time you need to let a guest in. There are also charges for water and sewer. These are not based on usage, but instead you are just charged a percentage for the whole building. There is absolutely no transparency behind these charges and you actually have to pay a service fee just to be charged for the buildings water and sewage. They advertise free bagels on Saturdays, but they don't usually arrive until after 10am, so if you are an early riser you'll be waiting a while for your breakfast. Then there are the ridiculous things they make you sign for your lease. You have to agree to let them throw away your packages, if they are not picked up fast enough. You have to waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits (not even sure if this is legally enforceable). You give them the right to use your picture in any promotional material. If I were you I would avoid Walnut Capital in generally. I can't speak for their other buildings, but I'm sure it's more of the same.

It's also located to several closeby places that I frequent such as fast food restaurants, a Giant Eagle, etc. As for the apartments themselves, I was pretty happy! You don't pay for water, and the management staff there is pretty friendly and know me by name. They're always available for a quick chat. No problems with leaks, and any maintenance issues are addressed by the next day! They constantly are improving their facilities be it roofing, paving the roads, salting the roads, painting the walls, etc. It's not luxury, but it's very homey and a great place to stay. Not expensive at all for someone right out of college. The walls from the living room to the hall are a bit thin, so you can hear quite a bit in the living room, but once you go to the bedroom you hear nothing at all. I did encounter a rodent one time that had climbed through the vents to pop up under my stove crack, which scared the hell out of me. But Chris the property manager promptly got pest control and helped deal with it! Bugs and roaches are pretty much nonexistent, which was a nice surprise. The best thing that I appreciated however is that after 1 year of living there with a lease, you get a more flexible lease that allows you to give a 30 day notice to vacate after which you can leave after paying 1 more extra month of rent. This was extremely helpful to me as I will be moving to another city soon, and I was somewhat worried about it. All in all, it's clean, management knows what they're doing, and the employees at this apartment really work with you. I highly recommend living here be you a single young worker, a student, or a family!

Our refrigerator broke last year, and they ordered a new one and installed it just a few days later. I love that the management is responsive if you have an issue. Some apartments will never get back to you, but we have never had that problem here. We originally rented our apartment from Jeff, but the new manager is Nina. She is great too.
