It also did not have any steps for access to the backyard. We spent a year and a half contacting contractor after contractor, no one wanted to help us get our deck up to par. Not one person that came out to look at the deck would give us an estimate on what it would take to fix the deck. Some told us they would only give us pricing for a new deck, others just ghosted us all together. Enter Mark Skerlec. Mark listened to our needs and then gave us a variety of options that could rectify the issues with the deck. After making our final decisions Mark quickly scheduled a date to begin his work. I also needed some help getting a new wind stop/chain installed on a swinging screen door in the basement. They were the only service I reached out to who asked for specific details about the jobs before providing a quote, which is a great way to do business. They also provided a real time of expected arrival instead of something like a four-hour window taking up your entire day. They arrived a little before the time quoted with two people - one the main handyman and one being trained. They did a prompt and excellent job and the cost was very fair. All of his jobs have problems: 1 - Floor: He didn't leave any gap (1/4 inch for expansion is standard) from the walls. There was a water leak which I notified him about, he finished the job and didn't check. I found there was still water everywhere after a week... Good thing I decided to redo the floor. 2 - Stairs: I was going to redo the stairs later anyway since the finish wasn't as nice as I hoped. After using it for a day; I almost tripped on the nose trim. It was a loose and I found most of them were loose and poorly finished. 3 - Walls: I was actually okay with this job and he was supposed to prep the wall for painting. After 3 coats of paint, the wall looks ugly due to poor or no prepping... I also paid him to build a fence, he acted like he was confident but he clearly lacked tools and knowledge. It was installed way too high and I told him it wasn't going to pass the permit inspection. He swore up and down this was okay and it failed... I still paid him and asked him to take the fence down but he ghosted me.
