This place had potential if we weren't nickeled and dimed for little things... First off, there…read moreare 8 pages of rules and policies (font 12) that you'll need to read which we read with a highlighter given previous Yelp comments. And yes, you will be reminded at every communication that you need to read them. Including a text the day before you check in. If you ask any questions, they'll send it to you like you've seen in other Yelper's reviews. Unlike hotels or AirBnBs, be aware that the rate is for just 2 people. They will charge $50 more per person. We had a little one with us and we were charged $50 more per night. (And yes, they will meet you at check-in to make sure you don't bring extra people!) Our cottage had a queen bed and a sofa bed. Presumably with the extra charge, we would have been given enough towels and linen for 3. Nope. There were towels for 2. And the sofa bed was a bare mattress with a throw without a sheet. We didn't complain since we brought our own linen. Despite being charged a cleaning fee of $50, know that you will still need to haul all of your trash to a trash bin 50 - 100 feet of your cottage. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the place is tired and old: filthy floors, dusty baseboards, tight shower knobs, weak AC, broken porch light... The deck didn't have the nice furniture that was in the photos. Yes, it's river front but getting down to the river is treacherous with many jagged rocks and makeshift steps - exercise caution with kids and elderly. There are no banks, just jagged rocks. We were here in April and it is very, very buggy - lots of mosquitoes and big flying bugs were found in the house every night. Just one screen door. No screens on any of the windows or front door. Beware - they are sticklers with checking out. We left the cottage on time but decided to take a few last minute photos near the river. After paying $2000 for 2 cottages for 3 nights, we were charged - after Danika / Sherry gave us a discount - an additional $25 for not having left the premises on time! We would not recommend this place and certainly will not be visiting again.

We spent 4 delightful nights in the Romantic River Studio. Comfy king bed, shaded deck overlooking…read morethe river, and well appointed kitchen space with sky light. Temps were warm enough (2nd week in Sept) at night that we could fall asleep to the sounds of the river. Walking distance to small market, and nice hiking trails along the river (Marshall Gold State Park and Monroe Ridge Trail ware an enjoyable walks).

None of the…read morethings that apparently happened to the negative reviewer happened to my 12 year old daughter, her 70 year old grandmother and I when we stayed there in June of 2013. The cabin was pristene. My mother in law is a stickler for cleanliness (like way, way overboard) and I was nervous about this but she was delighted with the accommodations. The hot tub was crystal clear when we arrived (by the way, I am pool and spa certified, nationally, and you never change the water between uses or guests... that is ridiculous. That is what chlorine, bromine and filtration systems are for. The grounds were so secluded and private, we never saw another soul (except for the horses on the adjacent pasture and a few deer). There simply wasn't a single thing lacking. The owner called us once, just after we arrived, to ask if there was anything we had wished was provided or that we forgot to bring, and to wish us a happy stay (as well as for my daughter to come up and feed the horses if she would like). We never heard from her again. The price was unbelievable for what you get. Like, I thought there must be some mistake. And deposit/cleaning was simply not an issue. I do tend to pride myself on tidying up any place I stay on vacation, as I myself have occupied the thankless (and well under-tipped) profession of cleaning up after people who wrongly believe that they can make as big a mess as they want simply because 'someone else is paid to do that'. Someone else is paid to scrub the toilet and wash the floor, strip, wash and replace the linens and wipe away all traces of your visit. They are not expecting to heavily scrub after a careless trail of filth. I've never had a deposit withheld. Perhaps it's a good rule of thumb to tidy up after yourself. I loved Walker's Cabin - so much that a conversation more than three years after my stay with a couple gal friends prompted me to look it up and see if it is still available for rent. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat - and for me, that includes round-trip flights from Seattle and a decent drive in a rental car. Absolutely worth it.

Reception said thats not a problem she will put a note. We arrive at 2:10pm at 100F. we have gate code entered and parked to go to reception to check-in. The yound lady at the front deak will NOT check us in and told us check in is at 3pm. Told her im fully aware thats why we called day prior to advice and allowed and told her we have our friends already inside with same reservation. But still she said NO, you can go to your friends but still have to go back at front desk at 3:00pm to check in We drove the oneway narrow path to the platforms.. and saw Platform6 already available... then one our friends at a tent site was allowed to check in at 2pm.. I called reception and different lady answered, we asked if we still have to DRIVE BACK at front desk to check in, since we are already at our platform. she was surprised why we where not accomodated, but did not appologize for the inconvience, and told us you can walk to front office if u dont want to drive 100F. Just to put a check on our name and give a car tag. whicn they could have done earlier !!!!!

I went to the front desk four separate times during normal business hours and never once found it open. I had a time-sensitive question and was unable to get help, and calls to the front desk also went unanswered. On our last day, we needed assistance locating the dump station. When we went to the front office, there was still no one available. We also encountered other guests actively searching for staff and unable to find anyone, which makes it clear this isn't an isolated issue. The lack of basic amenities was also disappointing--there is no WiFi or laundry on-site. While the location is beautiful, it seems to be the main reason this place stays in business, as the customer service and amenities do not meet expectations. The bathrooms were acceptable, but the shower pressure was extremely low, which made it difficult to use--especially for anyone with thick or textured hair.

It's only about an hour away and just a short drive from Placerville, making it an easy escape into nature. We stayed in South Fork Cabin J, one of the resort's select pet-friendly cabins, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect blend of camping and glamping with a fully equipped kitchenette including a stovetop, microwave, sink, toaster, dishes, and utensils, plus a private bathroom with a shower, two A/C units, and a spacious living area to relax after a day outside. My Goldendoodle, Bailey, had the best time exploring the property and curiously checking out the river. We loved relaxing in the Adirondack chairs along the water, and there was plenty of open green space along with giant chess, Connect Four, and cornhole. I also appreciated the multiple dog waste stations conveniently located throughout the resort. Check-in was incredibly easy since we arrived after 5 p.m. Our paperwork was waiting on the corkboard at the front gate, and we received our gate code by email the day before arrival. The staff were wonderful, especially Joey, the Reservations Manager, who took the time to recommend local activities, resort amenities, and nearby historical sites. The resort also has beautiful riverfront cabins and campsites, a cute camp store stocked with souvenirs, firewood, and forgotten essentials, plus a unique one-year rebooking policy that lets you reserve the same accommodation for the following year if you fall in love with your stay. We also highly recommend grabbing a coffee and a bite to eat at Argonaut Café. Overall, Coloma Resort is a beautiful, peaceful destination whether you're looking to camp, stay in a cozy cabin, or enjoy a dog-friendly weekend in nature. We can't wait to come back!
