Right around the corner from the La Mesa Antique Mall, Collectiquity has a well-edited selection of antiques and a clean, reasonably well-organized presentation. I spotted some absolutely beautiful light blue Fenton lamps, a lot of neat 1950s kitchen accouterments and dinette sets, a beautiful and unique dresser, and many more quality antiques - including a manually operated drill (which I've heard work great). Unlike La Mesa Antique Mall, which is mainly focused on knick-knacks, Collectiquity would be a decent place to go for furniture and large items such as antique mirrors - though smaller items such as art glass, jewelry, and other decorative items are well-represented. They carry some items that are on the newer end of "antique" - like the aforementioned mid century dinettes. Prices are reasonable but not rock-bottom and on par with other antique stores in the area. A fun place to browse, as it's more orderly and less overwhelming than the dusty recesses of the average antique mall or junk shop. read more

UPDATE: They did NOT close but moved! I was very happy to find this out. Their new location is at 8600 La Mesa Blvd, still in La Mesa and they have the same phone number. They also have a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Collectiquity/159044344128760 My husband and I were super excited to see they relocated as we'll finally be putting our Peter Rabbit dresser to use and are looking for a changing table. One of the owners Michelle was at the store at the time that we stopped in and remembered us as the couple who had bought the Peter Rabbit dresser! It's been over three years so for her to remember was amazing. The layout of their new location is much different than the last. It's large and has different sections or rooms and the way they've allocated the antiques throughout gives the store a homey feel and gives you a good idea of what these pieces would look like in a bedroom, kitchen etc as they've themed each room they have with different room specific items such as kitchen only. We stopped in for a while but I could spend hours in the store looking at everything. Near the counter top at the register look for a stand with homemade sand dollar Christmas ornaments (sand dollars from Coronado) - perfect gift for family out of town who love San Diego. I have furnished practically my whole apartment with things from this store. I absolutely love it, each room has a different theme with different little eclectic items and pieces of furniture. There are truly vintage items that are in great condition, and the shop owner, Ramos, restores pieces as well. Every time I go, I find something I want. But I have to say, the thing I love best about Collectiquity is not the selection, nor is it even the impeccable level of service I have received. The prices are what I love the best. I don't have a ton of money to throw around to decorate my house. I moved into a new place with a mattress and an IKEA dresser. I had old hand me down things that did not match. I absolutely love early and mid century decor. And at Collectiquity, I was able to refurnish my apartment without spending a fortune. I felt the prices were extremely reasonable compared to most antique stores, especially in La Mesa. I realize it is hard for most antique stores to stay in business; they rely on their prices for their livelihood, but realistically, they are not items that you actually purchase. You go to look and browse and maybe gather ideas. This was not the case at Collectiquity, I couldn't believe how many things they had that inspired me to decorate and could actually afford. I bought two dressers, a vanity, two end tables that serve as night stands, an awesome mid century silverware cabinet that I use as TV stand, a couch, and this great cushiony green bench from the late 60s/early 70s. I also have to note that Ramos is a cool guy. I always have a great time chatting with him. He has historical knowledge of the items in the shop, and the items are from all era's. My first impression of the shop's setup was pure giddy excitement. The themed rooms are creatively displayed with a mix of shabby-chic artisan creations & museum-worthy antiques. I wish the owner was there so I could meet her & praise her work. Unfortunately, her delight of a husband was the only one there. Initially he was quite helpful when I asked for specific items (sewing buttons are my drug of choice). Things got a little weird once I started browsing and had to listen to his (very) loud & (very) personal phone conversation. But to his credit and my relief, he left me alone to explore. The 50% off library had several books I intended on buying, including an understandably pricey mint signed first edition. I always leave my finds on their shelves until I am done browsing, so by the time I get to the front jewelry counter, I am empty handed. The jewelry was displayed on pullout drawers/shelves, which was a relief from trying to decipher the poorly lit mounds of tangles. I asked if he could show me a specific drawer, this was his response (no exaggeration needed): "No...no. I don't just pull out an entire drawer like that. You tell me what you want to see and I'll show you. But I'm not just pulling out a drawer like that. Okay? What do you want?" In front of 3 other customers. I began explaining to him I couldn't see anything and that, to be honest, was interested in purchasing the entire drawer. Halfway through my shpeal, I realized the bad taste left in my mouth was there to stay & the damage was done. I lingered long enough to clarify that I was indeed invisible, & to watch him chat up another customer about "God's nonexistence", using "Auschwitz" as his oddly specific, rock solid example (I think he meant "holocaust"..) Lesson learned: "When encountering a jackass in his unnatural habitat, avoid any sudden movements & always keep hands free of clutter in case the need of a quick escape becomes imminent." read more

Came into this wonderful shop looking for a very specific item as a Christmas gift. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and shown around like we were old friends. By the time we left, we felt as though we definitely were. It was our first time there, and we were treated about as kindly as possible. They were above and beyond any expectation to help us find exactly what we had been hoping for. Not only did we find the exact item we were searching for (and had been searching awhile for) we were able to find all kinds of incredible antiques and collectibles. This place seriously does have it all. Antiques, record, china and dishes, furniture, brewery/beer items, tons of artwork plus tons, tons more! Great location and very cute store, however the customer service is definitely lacking and the pricing for some items is not what it should be. A crystal ring holder that I was interested in was "on sale" for $50 they were originally asking $75. This is ridiculous because I found the exact piece online new for $39. I made an offer of $40 to the gentleman working in the store (not sure of his name) and he was quite rude when he declined so I promptly left. In the end everything worked out well for me because (aside from the fact that I will not be going there again) my beautiful brand new Waterford crystal ring holder has been ordered and I got it at a better price! read more

A warm, friendly store with hidden treasures abound! Their new location at 8600 La Mesa is even better than their old location in town. Parking was always an issue in town, having to feed the meter when shopping, but there's plenty of free parking here. Walking down the hallway there are many different rooms, each with a different theme showcasing a wide variety of collectibles and antiquities (Aha! "Collectiquity!" Now I get it!) I almost didn't go in because I had my dog with me but the proprietor welcomed Otto inside (which seemed strange since Otto's not a service dog) but finding a store where I could bring my dog inside was refreshing! I am in LOVE with this little Mom & Pop store. I have recently just moved back from Washington and was lucky enough to have found this Antique Store. This store is one of a kind, not only does it have collectible antiques but it has a touch of new. The store owners Ramos and Michelle, were so helpful. They even had a dresser custom painted for me. Well, it's Mother's Day and I am waiting for my dog to get out of the emergency vet. I figure I have a few hours to kill, so I head down the street to the local antique store. Wow was I happy to find Collectiquity! The store has great items, arranged well and showcased. Down the hall I find the $5-$10 room and think JACKPOT! Especially since I know the vet is going to take most of my paycheck. I stumble over a few items and find a small wood side table with a broken handle. No price, but I assume $10 max. As I drag it out, the guy from the front comes back to see what I'm up to. I'm glowing because I just found a gem! He sternly tells me that it is not $10, it is not for sale, the room should have been blocked out, and oh -- he's closing, now. Not saying it in a nice way either. Funny, doors are open other people have been browsing, but all of a sudden I need to leave immediately. So I do. And as I sit here outside the shop writing this, I know I will never be back. Michelle, the owner is amazing. Super sweet and kind. Her husband on the other hand (who always answers the phone and "helps" out) is beyond rude. He was extremely rude to me on the phone when I called and he was rude to me when i decided to go in to the shop. There were a few people that were in the shop attempting to talk to him and he would just keep walking around and say "yeah" in a rude tone. I'm pretty sure he doesn't like his job and should probably find a new one. If it was solely his shop I would never go there or recommend people to go there. I was so sad when I walked down La Mesa BLVD and seen that Collectiquity was closed.... But I just found out they DID NOT GO OUT OF BUSINESS they just changed locations! This story is even more cute than the last location. I love the set up they have, every room you go into has its own theme I can't get enough of this store. The owner Michelle is absolutely fantastic and her husband works their as well sometimes, He comes off a little rough but he is really a gentlemen . After talking to Michelle for a while I was astonished to find out she has had 7 kids!!!! How does she do it!? A really wonderful shop! Ramos went out of his way to help us! He took us to see a table he had used in a staging at a nearby home for sale. He cleaned up the chairs we bought; gave us price-break on a table we purchased; and put us in touch with a carpenter. The shop was so kid friendly. We brought young children into the store and not only was Ramos totally unfazed by their desire to touch everything, but he gave them beanie babies! read more

This antique shop is amazing. In fact it is my favorite one in La Mesa. Such a selection in this shop. It is super warm and friendly! Walking down the long hallway of surprises is a total blast! Loved the different rooms- it is a treasure hunt and you are sure to find many treasures! My husband built a shelving unit type thing to display our coffee mugs and tea cups, and we have been looking for almost 2 years for an antique buffet/cabinet to go under it. We have searched craigslist, ebay, thrift stores, & antique shops galore with no luck. That is until we found Collectiquity! There it was.... first furniture piece on the right hand side of that long hallway! Huge score! Ramos, the guy who works there, was awesome. We talked to him for some time (antiquing, Hawaii, surfing, religion, God's definite existence, and the churches we attend and have visited :) - it got deep fast! lol) and somehow it was mentioned that my husband hand crafts wooden surf boards. He actually ended up "buying" (*cough cough trading*) one of his wooden surf boards that very day. This guy has an eye for treasures and that experience sure displays that quality. We bought the buffet/cabinet for a good and fair price, and even came home with another antique table that we got by trading the board. It was such a cool place. read more

In my opinion, they have great taste and an excellent collection of antiques here. My husband and I have been to antique stores throughout California, mostly near our home in San Francisco. La Mesa was recommended to us by a woman at an antiques store in San Diego and the town was definitely worth the short trip from SD. We bought a vintage hutch at Collectiquity. The hutch was a pink color and perfectly distressed. Ramos, the owner, was one of the most helpful antique sellers we've come across. He was knowledgeable about all the pieces. He had good suggestions for how to restore the pieces. He cut us a good deal. He threw in some nice crystal knobs for the doors and drawers on the hutch. He helped us load the heavy piece into our car. Plus he has some great stories and a laid-back surfer vibe. We are so excited to add this wonderul piece to our new home! read more

New location is wonderful. Ray and Michelle are GOOD people. Store is large with lots of different rooms so sometimes it is hard for one person working there to be in more than one place at a time. Omg I can't began to express how great my experience was with the little antique shop. First of all I would like to say the store is so cute and organized. Nothing is hard to get to. All the rooms are organized for certain pieces. The couple that runs the shop is really down to earth and military friendly. Ramos walked me around to show me different things I might like and he also showed me a piece that wasn't even on display yet.
