I would give zero stars if i could! Avoid this business and go elsewhere. James is a con artist! Took my grandfathers clock that has been in my family for over 60 years to get cleaned and repaired. It initially took months and i got the clock back but it did not work properly. The clock was off a few minutes every hour so by the end of the day the time wasnt even close to correct. Nothing was fixed. i brought it back in and was told it would take a week to get it back to me. 3 weeks later i got the clock back but it wasnt my clock. James took the cover off my clock and put it on a similar clock. He did his best to deceive me and pass it off as my clock but it is noticeably different. The cover could not close because it wasnt the same clock. James tried to pass it off as my clock even going as far as saying look i cleaned your clock so it looks way different than when you brought it in. Its not the same clock, not even close. It two pieces from the original clock. At least pull both placards off the original if youre going to fake it and try to pass it off as my clock. No refund for not fixing the clock, took no responsibility when called out for fraud. I filed a report with the BBB but hes not accredited, should've known. This guy talks poorly on young people not being interested in clocks but then when a young person comes in for work on a clock he chose to swindle them. Shame on you James Simpson. read more

I called about an inexpensive clock that I am sentimentally attached to. It has not worked right for a long time. I had taken it to a clock repair shop in El Cajon but when it quit working again not long after a $40 repair, I was told "it worked fine when you walked out with it." So today I called Time and Treasure and took my clock to Tim. He fixed it within ten minutes and I am SO happy to see it telling me the right time again! Thank you Time and Treasure!!!! read more

I highly recommend Time & Treasures for clock repairs. I have an old school house clock that I've had about 50 years. The pendulum stopped swinging. I thought it had been wound too tight but both repair shops I got quotes from said not possible. The first guy I went to, in Grossmont Center, said something was broken and said it would be +$600 to fix it. He required payment up front and said it would be 6 weeks. Luckily I went to Time & Treasures next and he said it probably just needs an ultrasonic cleaning and it would be $180. He'd call me if it turned out to be some additional work and cost. He said he'd have it next week and he had it early in the week. It's working great! Nice friendly shop owner, reasonable cost, fast turn around. read more

Time & Treasures is a wonderful place to take your clocks for repair. My great experience started with the first phone call I made to see if they could repair my modern clock. They let me know I should come in a few days, since the La Mesa Oktoberfest was going on and it would be difficult to get there - saving me a lot of trouble. Based on that, I brought my clock in a few days later and got an easy parking spot out front. Wandering in, I asked for help with my clock (again, it was a modern clock). Jim had me hand it to him...immediately he made a couple of adjustments and it was all fixed! I was stunned. I was expecting to leave the clock there and come back sometime later. Yes, a nice collection of antique clocks. However, we were not pleased with the service or workmanship provided. After bringing a Howard Miller Regulator clock to the shop, we were told the works needed to be rebuilt. We agreed to his quote. Once notified that the clock was ready we brought the clock home .... a few days later, the pendulum stopped. Back to the shop .... it needs a tiny spring. For days upon days no phone call letting us know the clock was ready for pick up. "I'm waiting for this tiny peice to be shipped from somewhere in the east." A week or 10 days later, we stopped into the shop for a status. We were told that the problem was a small piece of metal that was bent .... no mention of the spring. The owner wanted to keep the clock longer to make sure it keeps running for a length of time. OK, good idea. Eventually we brought the clock home, placed it on the wall. Click, stop. Click, Stop. Oh, by the way, the back of the case was gone. It did not come home with us. Back to the shop ..... "oh, it's here somewhere. I'll find it. I did not throw it out. I'll look for it after the shop closes and give you a call. BTW if you don't hear from me tonight, give me a call in the morning." No call from this shop from over a week now. WE ARE DONE! Unfortunately we are out a good some of money. To avoid more stress and upset, we took the Regulator wall clock to an authorized dealer. Of course, this establishment wanted to know the details of what had already been done to the clock and why we chose this clock shop in El Cajon. Silence. Evidently we are not the first unsatisfied customers of Time and Treasures in La Mesa. read more

Great collection of clocks, and the clocks were all in superb shape. Store is laid out well, organized well and, again great collection. Prices seem to be close to on par with what we've seen. However. The staff's attitude and reception isn't very good. Borderline rude. Both in their interaction with me, and with other customers. It could have been an off day, but it seemed that they were only interested in telling us why other clocks not in the store were probably in horrible shape and why they would need a lot, a LOT of work. When we were looking at on of the train station clocks (which are very, very cool), they commented "we'll have to justify the price to them, watch". I have a mantle grandfather chiming clock that stopped running. I had brought it to James at Time and Treasures once before and had been very pleased with his work. Well, this time I set the non-running clock down on the counter, he looked at it for a few seconds, opened up the back, and said, "This is often the problem." and he pulled off a tiny plastic cover from where it covered a small fly wheel. As soon as he pulled it off, the clock started ticking. I was very pleased and told him, "Thank you. How much?" He replied, "No charge." I really don't think there are too many people that would do what he did. Some might have said, "Oh, twenty bucks." I mean, his time, knowledge and experience is worth something. Some, would have even said, "I'll take a look at it, call me in a week." and then told me, "I got it going but it will be two hundred dollars." Was excited to find Time And Treasures online. Their posted photos and reasonable reviews made it seem worth the 50 mile round trip to explore their clock collection with hopes of adding to the 40-some I already own. Arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday (peak shopping hours for the many of us that have to work) only to find a sign that stated "Had to close early today only. Open as usual tomorrow. Please stop back". Only problem is, they aren't open tomorrow OR Monday and I'm not making the long trek back after today's disappointment. Sign was engraved and well worn, giving me the impression early departures are a frequent occurrence. I don't like businesses that don't honor their hours. Sure, the occasional emergency might force a place to close early or not open at all. In that case, I expect to see a quickly scrawled hand written sign explaining as much, not a nicely engraved sign that's hung out frequently. Bottom line, call before you go. It's not worth the disappointment of taking time out of your busy day and feeding a meter only to discover a place like this doesn't value their customers. read more
