Interesting shop, met the owner seems a nice guy however this stuff is not priced to sell it's priced to sit for collectors or people who are just dying to have a specific piece. A few months ago I shattered my one and only antique tea cup on accident. That experience didn't teach me to save the antique cups for special occasions or only for display- no. It taught me I need to have multiple teacups on hand and accept that accidents are just a part of life. The joy I get drinking from fancy cups every day is worth the risk. Since the accident I find myself regularly stopping in antique shops looking to build my collection. Came by this shop on a whim walking by Saturday and lucked out because it was past closing time. He happened to be open late - I immediately fell in love with his MANY teacups. This shop has a lot of antique kitchenware and home furnishings as well as a ton of tiki shirts, Tommy Bahama, ect. I circled that shop at least 6x and even though it's on the smaller side I'm confident that I didn't see everything. I wouldn't take small kids here- there's a lot that could be easily broken and some of the spots are a little narrow to navigate. It feels like an adventure. My first visit I walked out empty handed, but I returned the next day and added three new tea cups that I couldn't stop thinking about to my collection. My favorite find was one from Prussia where my father's side of the family immigrated from before WWI. The owner was so nice and knowledgeable about everything in the shop. I really enjoyed talking to him and could have stayed for hours. Prices for the tea cups were equal to other shops I've purchased from locally. I'm sure I'll be back- it's a great little shop. I went to one of these estate sales and had a seriously lousy time. No pricing labels on most items and the ones that did have price tags were stupid high. I had a few items picked out but had to wait behind other people to find out what the prices were, I ended up just putting everything down and walking out. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the stuff ends up in the retail store, might be why the estate pricing is so high. read more

What an awesome antique shop! My friend Anthony lives in the area, so we were having coffee at a coffeshop nearby and went for a walk when I look at the cute house called Zac's Attic. Did not realize that probably this is part of the famous Antique's row area. We are totally kids by heart and went inside in the search of ugly-scary looking porcelain dolls, to take some pictures for our collection:) (yes, some of my friends have the same weird hobbies as me, so I am not the only one). I could actually see a very cute doll, and the owner was very friendly and illustrative, opening a dusty catalog and explaining how to distinguish a doll from the beginning for the XX century to one imitation made last year in China, for example. Tons of other items, kind of disorganized, but that is the key, to find hidden treasures. I was very scared, though, of breaking one of those cute blue glasses or bottles, as there is a lot of content in this shop. I am not a collector, no space, no wish either, but definitively is a place I would consider to buy something small and not to expensive for a friend who collects something is particular if I happen to stop buy and think about what would be cool for that person. DO NOT BOTHER! Their estate sale is overpriced and Dave is dishonest when it comes to items for sale. Found a remote in a box with trinkets and he refused to sell me the remote. It did not belong to anything that was at the sale just a remote left behind. He didn't even give me an option to purchase it just took it and kept it for himself. Terrible way to run an estate sale. I have recently attended an estate sale by Zac's Attic and it was frustrating and annoying to see the prices for everything (even small items) were higher than eBay sold prices! not sure where this company is getting their pricing from but using market value would make more sense. if you want quality items for less money, shop on eBay rather than this guys estate sales. read more

Was driving and saw a very unprofessional estate sale sign so we thought the prices might be good. The prices were the highest we ever see and there was no real discounts like at most sales with 50% off the last day. The house and garage was packed with nice stuff but the prices and the male seller was not nice. We never went to a sale where we bought nothing so if we ever see those ratty signs again we will not waste our time. If and when our family needs a sale we will hire a company that tries hard to get rid of stuff like other estates sellers around town who are nice to deal with. read more

It is so wrong what they do at the estate sales they handle. They make drive far, sign a list at 6:00 am and then turns to be they will be giving numbers at 8:30... so why they make you drive far and so early?.... plus when you complain in a very nice and proper way, they give you this "attitude" and tell you "that is the way we do business". I am a good customer of estate sales, will never again go back to any of them. This is no way to treat a good customer nor waste it's time!!!! A Stand-Out on Adams! ~ Dave McPheeters is someone I would consider a great small business owner. ~ I am 24 years old but an antique collector and old soul, he understands me ~ I walked in one day browsing Antique Row in search of finishing a license plate project of mine. I walked into a few nice places before I found my favorite small business that doesn't serve food in San Diego. ~ Dave has a love for antiques and collectibles ~ He made a special call for me to a buddy to find specific things I was looking for, called me when he got them in and we had a nice chat when I came back to pick them up. ~ He even showed me some Pepsi antiques which was great because I do not like Coca-Cola! ~ Personal service and a strong interest in what he has found/is selling sets him apart. Hubbs and I strolled down Adams Ave. "Antique Row". I decided to stop in. The most interesting things hung quietly on the walls. In the very back of the store hung this beautiful painting of a spanish or mexican lady. She was painted on what seemed to be canvas bearing one bust. The owner- Dave was very knowledgeable, charismatic, talkative, and fun to chat with. The also had a really nice light wooden table with upholstered chairs. Also another thing that stood out was a Shirley Temple Doll and a really pretty white vintage dress. If you need anything antique in San Deigo go to one of the last standing antique shops on Adams. read more

Have to minus one star for the steeper than average prices. This is a great shop, though. Housed in an old Craftsman just down the street from Antique Row, Zac's is stuffed to the gills with all kinds of antiques and vintage items. There is a particularly nice selection of vintage housewares (Fiesta dishes and the like). Every flat surface is pretty much covered with interesting finds. This is definitely not a shop to rush through. Zac's also sometimes conducts estate sales, and they do a thorough, professional job. read more

I attended one of zacs estate sales today. They told us 90% of stuff wasn't priced, so just bundle your things up, and we'll price it for you. Well, he went through every single item taking his time, and gave us very high prices. We go to estate sales just about every weekend, and his prices were double from any other one we've been to. We left almost everything we were interested in on the table. We've never done that before. Very disappointed. We'll never go to another one of theirs. It's like stumbling into a really good estate sale, which makes sense because I'm pretty sure that is where many of the items for sale come from. Dave is a gracious and helpful guy and a San Diego native. My boyfriend and I just moved here and he was kind enough to tell us a great deal about the area. I've had occasion to either use or refer Zak's over the past several years for estate or liquidation sales. Each event was very successful. The preparations for each event was astonishing. Items were impeccably cleaned, categorized, organized, & exhibited beyond expectations. Promotion & advertising prior to the event was through and, were appropriate, targeted to specific specialty individuals. Knowledge of the current fair market value was "on the mark" and when uncertain about an item or a collection of items was in question an expert in the field would be consulted.
