My sister and I were excited to visit the Cold Stone Creamery in Olney, MD. We drove about 30 minutes from Silver Spring because she was really looking forward to ordering her favorite ice cream, the Founder's Favorite - Gotta Have It. One of the things she enjoys most is watching it being freshly mixed on the frozen stone. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly turned into disappointment. There was only one person working at the front counter. He finished preparing the ice cream in just a few seconds, which immediately made us question whether all of the ingredients had been added. My sister politely asked if everything was included, and he simply replied, "Yes." When she looked at the ice cream and took a bite, it was obvious that several ingredients were missing, especially the brownies, which are one of the signature ingredients in the Founder's Favorite. We politely brought it to his attention, but instead of listening or checking, he seemed annoyed that we even asked. His responses were short, dismissive, and it felt like he just wanted us to leave. My sister then asked if he could add a little hot fudge. He said it would cost an additional $2.00, and I told him that was perfectly fine. However, he added what was barely a drop of hot fudge. When my sister asked if that was all, he replied, "Yes. That's it." His attitude throughout the interaction was rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in customer service. When I asked if I could speak with the owner or manager, he responded, "I am the owner." Based on his behavior, it was very difficult to believe he was the owner. He acted more like someone who simply didn't care about the customers or the business. He started walking away and we couldn't believe his attitude. We didn't mind paying extra--we simply wanted the product we ordered and to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Instead, we left feeling frustrated and disappointed. After driving 30 minutes to visit this location, this was not the experience we expected. We won't be returning, and I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously so that other customers don't leave feeling the way we did. Coldstone is HANDS DOWN the only place I will go to for ice cream. I always get the same thing... cake batter ice cream with crushed graham crackers. If I'm feeling extra... I may add some white chocolate chips or marshmallows. The staff is young but their always super friendly at this location! I have been here many times and each time the service gets worse. It is staffed by young kids who are unmanaged and rude. On my last trip, we came in at 8:00 and were told that the milkshake machines were broken so they couldn't make shakes. They had clearly already been cleaned for the night and staff didn't want to make them. (I thought they only did that at McDonalds. They then had run out of 5 flavors of ice cream and hadn't replaced them. Again, I assume they didn't get new ones so that they can be done as close to closing as possible. read more

The only topping in there was CHOC CHIPS. We spent over $25 for ice cream. If I'm paying over $20 for ice cream it needs to be made to the customers satisfaction not the TOTAL opposite. It's sad that only because of closing, and getting home earlier, my $25 ice cream had been beyond half ass'ed. Went for the first time 7/30/21 at 4 pm. We see a rude Asian girl playing with her hair and then preparing ice cream with no gloves while yelling at customers. No thank you. Gross attitude and unhygienic. We went to Marble Slab instead. They are nice and wear gloves and masks while prepping your order. They are also less expensive and have more flavor choices. You can add as many mix-in's as you want free of charge (cold stone charges $1 for every mix-in). I see a lot of the good reviews were from several years ago, it's gone downhill since then. read more

I came here for National Ice Cream Day since it was BOGO. My boyfriend and I split the Birthday Cake Remix and a Wild Blueberry Muffin Batter milkshake. The Birthday Cake Remix is one of my favorite flavors since I love cake batter ice cream. I also love brownies in my ice cream so it's perfect. I think the Wild Blueberry Muffin Batter is a new flavor, and it was so good (at least as a milkshake)!! The blueberry flavor is strong and sweet. If you like blueberry ice cream, I'd definitely recommend this flavor, especially in milkshake form. Two young girls were working behind the counter and they were very friendly. Cold Stone Creamery is one of my local spots. They have a wide variety of specialty ice cream selections. I usually order the Oreo Overload with a chocolate coated waffle cone in a cup. My size is "Love It!" The place is always packed as many love their ice cream. The service is pretty quick you can get in and out. For a smaller establishment it has all the perks: clean bathroom, outside and inside seating, parking and of course great ice cream. So...of course I have to stop for Cold Stone ice cream in Olney..its like the local community law ;) So the scoop on this location is that there is basically no where to sit inside and enjoy your treat without literally being on top of someone else. Its super tight..and this particular location is always super busy. Now...you can opt to sit outside, which has a few chairs and a partition, but on a blazing, humid hot summer Maryland day, this would be torture. As far as customer service, it is as good as one could expect at a small location like this. No one is rude or obnoxious, but they aren't exactly enthusiastic either..just straight-cutthroat ice cream-business...No time for happy greetings or small talk haha! Its a busy location, but once you have your ice cream in your mouth..nothing else will matter. Overall, the place is clean and the service is swift ..so Two thumbs up. Customer service here sucks. Me and my boyfriend went last night (03/09/2020) and whomever worked the night shift should NOT be working there. We came in around 9:50PM and my boyfriend politely greeted the Caucasian female working that night and she ignored him. This is how the dialogue went: Caucasian worker: *walks up to glass, doesn't say a peep* My boyfriend: ....hi how are you? Can I have the love it size of this and that ice cream? My husband and I ordered two medium ice creams. He got mint chocolate chip. It was ok. I ordered chocolate chip cookie dough with extra cookie dough on top with caramel. It had not even one piece of cookie dough with very little caramel. For as much as they charge it shouldn't be skimpy. I've been going here for quite a few years. All I can say is that the ice cream here is superb and I was impressed on how much effort they go to meet the customer's requests. The family in front of us had a daughter with a severe dairy allergy so they ordered sorbet and requested a fresh scoop. I didn't know what that meant, but I watched the employee go to the freezer to get a fresh tub and scoop out a cup for the daughter. The father also ordered a cup to go and asked that it be stored in the freezer until they were ready to leave and the employee gladly complied. I placed an online order around 7:10pm tonight and the order confirmation said it would be ready by 7:32pm. I drove there and arrived right on time to find a line all the way down the sidewalk. I waited in line for my turn to go in (around 8pm), only to find that my order wasn't even started. There were only 2 people working and a long line outside the door. The credit card system was not working well (apparently a problem all day), which made the lady in line next to me very frustrated. It would be helpful if people who are picking up online orders are able to go directly to the cashier to pick up and avoid the long line. It'll be a while before we return. read more

My family eats ice cream at least once a week - it is the desert they enjoy and we know all the spots. They all work hard in school and with sports and this is the treat for the week..at least once a week winter, summer, whenever. The ice cream is good as are the toppings. Big selection and good combos on the menu. The dark choco ice cream is the big family favorite but they seem to be out of it a decent amount which is disappointing when menu is not consistent. Two things to work on - service and lines are slow!! I assume it has to do w profitability but sales matter too and when we drive by and peak in the window and that line is across the window, we know service is so slow that we will be waiting forever and we keep driving and find another place. Amount of toppings is also a draw back - they skimp = profitability issue again. If we order oreo or peanut butter etc, the hope is you get plenty of it to enjoy and that is not always the case. The larger serving you order, the few toppings you get on a relative basis... Order small if you want bang for your buck w regard for toppings....if you order larger sizes, you get little additional and its too dispersed and not very tasty. Great shakes here though.
