Shirley Delicious Cafe - Sgarabottolo

Shirley Delicious Cafe

Easily one of the most popular spots on Vancouver Island…read more The sun peaked out in January and everyone and their mom visited Shirley Delicious Cafe. To be honest, I completely understand why. This cafe is a step above the rest. The inside is cozy, with a cabin-esque vibe and clear ceilings in their dining room for an indoor-outdoor feel. Despite the line of 20+ people, Shirley Delicious worked like a well oiled machine. Their menu included breakfast, lunch, and even a flight of soup (which I so desperately wanted). I ordered their date pastry, a hot caramel latte, and breakfast sandwich with avo. Each item was absolutely delicious. This is also a great location to shop for island goodies. Their storefront is filled with jams, sauces, metal working artwork, etc. Can't believe they can pack so much goodness into four little walls!

This was truly an amazing find! Tucked in the forest, this cafe is definitely delicious!…read more Definitely get here early as there could be a line out the door! We lucked out, thankfully. You order and pay first, then find a seat inside or outside. Ample seating options. For drinks, they'll call your name and you pick it up at the counter, while they will bring you your entrée. We came for breakfast, so I had a croissant BLT Harvati sandwich and a latte. My friend had a vegan wrap and a latte as well. The whole indoor feels like a greenhouse once before and transformed to indoor cafe. There are tons of metal welding artwork around and many little retail shopping corners inside. My croissant did not let me know, it was so delicious! They also have a small coffee/ice cream/grab-n-go trailer outside. Overall it's a nice place for breakfast or lunch! We tried coming back again, but the power went out so we weren't able to order anything AND have cash. Guess I'll have to come back to visit!

NW Coffee Bros - Caffe Darte beans. Yummy

It's so good I stopped here twice in one day! ;) Their…read morecoffee is legit good and my lattes, iced in the AM and hot in the PM, were made perfectly. It's nice to enjoy the espresso in a latte without it being overtaken by the milk! The amount of flavored syrup for each was perfect. The service is quick and the ladies were uber friendly. I wish I was a local - I'd be here everyday!

I absolutely love NW Coffee Bros! I've completely switched from other places in town to go here…read more It's the closest coffee stand to my house, and the location is perfect to swing into the gas station for something from the hot case or simply to get gas. Their prices are great, I feel like I get exactly what I'm paying for and I'm not cheaped out. The baristas always have a smile and are extremely friendly. They take the time to learn your orders, especially if you are a regular. They have a wide variety of drinks they can make, including a kids menu. I personally love their iced tea, iced mochas and their lotus energy drinks. Their daily special alternates between a coffee and a energy drink. The baristas come up with fun specials as well. I love the convenience of the app, as I can order when I'm leaving work and usually can roll right through to get my drink. The only downside is the lines are usually 2 cars back, and I've waited awhile before getting to the window, but they usually apologize for the wait. I am extremely pleased with coffee bros and will definitely recommend them to anyone!

Bamfield Cafe - The restaurant patio on left, and the market itself on the right

Bamfield Cafe

On a Thursday afternoon, with lots of Pacific Coast Trail hikers waiting for the bus, the only game…read morein town was the Bamfield Market Café. The nearby Bamfield Pub was either closed or out of business. The outdoor deck with tables is a nice shaded place to eat, so we decided to give it a go. Turns out both the menu and the ordering of food items happens not at your table, but at the cashier of the Market which is at the same store-front but a different and seemingly unassociated entrance - confusing at first, but manageable. We ordered a BLTC (what's that? a Bacon Lettuce & Tomato sandwich with a slice of American cheese) and a grilled ham & cheese. Both sandwiches were prepared promptly and served with fries - the sandwiches were edible but nothing special - I removed the slice of American cheese from mine - while common in these parts, it's not a plus. The fries were pretty standard, and offered with gravy or ketchup -- we took the ketchup packets and had to squeeze a lot of them out to get that working. So, do I recommend this restaurant? If you're hungry, they serve food, and they are your only restaurant option at lunchtime (at least when we were in town). So yes, I'd go again. Would I recommend the food? Not really -- nothing wrong with it, but C$ 35.70 for two sandwiches and fries was a bit pricey for such marginal quality. On the other hand, they are remote, so one can be glad that they offer anything at all. The other half of the operation (the Market part) is tiny with very limited selection, but they do offer many of the things Pacific Coast Trail hikers need. So while your options are limited, what they have should get you through (including some good ice-cream bars).

AKA: The Market Cafe…read more Upon entering Bamfield you quickly realize that your food options have become pretty limited. However, this little cafe, located right beside The Market, Bamfield's general store, is the perfect little reprieve for those that hunger for a good meal before an epic adventure or just returning from one. You won't be blown away by mind altering flourishes of culinary wizardry, but you will be presented with wonderfully large portions and deliciously prepared meals. Seating is plentiful and the serving staff (consisting of just one waitress) is very friendly and welcoming. You may need to flag her down if the place gets a little hectic, but she is quick to come over and help you with what you need. We came here for both breakfast and lunch and in both instances the food here left me satisfied and well fed. For lunch, their seafood chowder was quiet good, with good portions of fish and shrimp. My favourite though was their Bammer-time breakfast: hash browns, choice of sausage/bacon/ham, eggs any way you want them, avocados, and hollandaise sauce - all in one bowl. Whoa. It was definitely Bammer-time. And yes, the bowl was totally bigger than my head. Bonus: The cafe and the general store share the same wifi, which is free!
