Beth was amazing! I could not recommend her more. She taught our curious and energetic pup so many valuable lessons we had been hoping to perfect. She was extremely personable, easy to work with, and our dog LOVED her. You could not get a better more affordable trainer, highly recommend!

a little surprise to welcome us home. :)

Beth is an excellent dog trainer. We hired Cold Noses Dog Training for 2 services: Dog training for our rescue mutt from Turkey named Willow, and house/puppy sitting for both Willow and our Goldendoodle Summer. Covid: Beth has been fully vaccinated. She adheres to social distancing, and was double masked at each of our sessions. Dog Training: Having been found alone in a forest, it was very evident that Willow had never had any training, nor had he ever had a family. He is very fearful of people, and gets very confused when training. Beth was incredibly patient with our little guy and helped guide him in a very assertive, but kind manner. By the 3rd time, Willow completely loved and trusted Beth and allowed her to pet him, which is HUGE, given that he doesn't let anyone touch him! Her techniques have also helped us work with Willow on our own time. He has made significant progress, and we are very grateful. House Sitting: We witnessed how much our dogs loved Beth during Willow's trainings, so we knew she was our #1 choice for house sitting. She stayed with our dogs, for 1 week and sent us daily updates and pictures. When we returned, she had cleaned our home and had done all of the laundry! She also left us a cute and thoughtful gift-- framed pictures of our fur babies. It felt great to know our dogs and home were in great and trustworthy hands. We couldn't recommend her more!

Thanks for helping me learn a lot, Beth!

We had a fantastic experience with Beth. She came for three sessions to work with our family of four (including two school-age kids) to start training our puppy. She was so kind, clear, inclusive of our kids, encouraging, and helped us stay accountable to goals through the week for training. We would definitely recommend Beth, and anyone with kids wanting to include them -- she is super skilled at working with them too! Our dog has come a long way in a short time, far surpassing anything we were able to do with YouTube videos and books.

Beth and Ruby

We hired Beth for 3 sessions to teach US how to teach our 3yr old mini-poodle, Ruby. She taught us a LOT including preparing a 8-page customized manual for all the commands. This is really helpful to have on hand and reminds us to keep practicing with Ruby. We took training classes with our previous dog in a group of people. One-on-one with Beth was MUCH better in every way. She is fun to visit with and was quite effective with little Ruby. If you have not had a personal dog trainer you should hire Beth to teach you how to be a good boy.

Beth Sherdell from Cold Noses did great work with our dog, Bailey. Bailey is a rescue, quite reserved, but he warmed up to Beth right away, and she managed to make Bailey's basic training fun for all of us! Beth was full of great tips for us on how to engage Bailey, and she gave us detailed summaries of each training session for review and future reference. We really enjoyed our time with Beth, and so did Bailey! Good stuff! Thank you, Beth!

I'm so impressed with the change in our Aussie, Lola, after board + train with Leaps & Bounds…read more We've used several different trainers in the past, and have seen benefit each time. However we still struggled with distraction, distance, and duration of good behavior with our super high energy dog. Our previous trainers were very much focused on positive reinforcement. I was certainly nervous about a change in tact. Now having gone through it, I wish we started sooner! A couple important callouts: 1 - the e collar provided is a game changer. Tom let us try this out to get comfortable with the idea. The range is so wide, it truly is just a slight stimulation vs a traditional shock. While we use sparsely, it's really the only thing that can help with high reaction for our pup 2- this is also a training of your behavior, not just your dog! Our girl is so smart and eager to please. Given that, we quickly discovered that we needed to change our approach to drive the behavior we were seeking. This is for sure the hardest part, but Tom and Bailey set us up with resources to help us along the way. That includes 2 live check ups to help hold us accountable. The biggest testament to the process is that Lola has been ecstatic to see Tom and Bailey even after her board and train. We can't recommend the investment enough! Thanks again Tom and Bailey!

We adopted our dog, Junie, from a shelter in August 2025. She was around a year old. On walks, she…read morewould bark at other dogs and sometimes people which made walks miserable and embarrassing. Indoors, it was jumping, and a constant need for attention and stimulation. It felt like she couldn't relax, or didn't know how, or maybe just didn't want to. So by extension, we couldn't either. We live in an apartment and even just taking her to the rooftop relief area was becoming a hell. I went down the same training rabbit hole many people do. YouTube videos weren't helping. They didn't explain what to do if the method in the video didn't work--which they never did for me. We decided to do some weekly training classes with a dog trainer we found through Rover. She taught Junie plenty--like any German shepherd, she's a very quick learner. She was trying to use counter conditioning to help Junie stop reacting so strongly to other dogs. And while Junie learned a lot, things weren't getting any better. She understood all the commands, she knew what was expected of her, but she almost never chose to do what we asked. It felt like we were constantly competing to be the most interesting thing in her world and we were fighting a losing battle. It was extremely frustrating and we were tired. It was clear to us that there was something important we were missing. We so badly wanted a dog we could bring to breweries, hikes, and backpacking trips and we were starting to wonder if we weren't a good fit for Junie. Assuming you've also been down the internet dog training rabbit hole, you've probably also seen people talk about how board and trains are a waste of money. We were nervous, but Tom came highly recommended by a friend of ours and we were at our wit's end. We didn't want our lives to be so entirely ruled by our dog--it wasn't healthy for any of us. We reached out to him in October and she stayed with Tom through the month of November. Best decision EVER. We were right about there being a missing link--it was our relationship with Junie that needed to be adjusted. Yes, we are her loving caretakers, but we are also people she needs to respect and listen to. It's now January and we can take her anywhere that allows dogs. She will stick by our side in a heel without a leash, whether on a sidewalk, at the beach, or in the forest. She can walk past a dog a foot away without reacting. She lays down next to our table at breweries. She stays in place until we release her. When she's playing off leash, she comes when we call her. We genuinely couldn't be happier! Here were my worries going into this: Would WE get enough training through this process to be able to continue things once Junie came home? --Absolutely. There was a learning curve of course on our end with the ecollar, but I truly did feel prepared by the time we got her home to continue her training. Tom is great at answering questions along the way and after your dog comes home. It hasn't even been 3 months since we adopted her--will it have a negative impact for her to have such a big change so soon? --If this is the position you're in, please don't keep suffering, just make the call! Dogs in general are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. I honestly feel that sooner was better--it meant less time for her bad habits to get worse/more ingrained. No regrets here at all. Will the training stick? --Yes but it's entirely up to you. As long as you're continuing to keep your dog accountable, you'll definitely keep having the dog you want. Maybe my dog just needs more exercise? --I mean exercise is important, but you shouldn't have to exhaust your dog to get it to behave. We had started renting out Dog Yard through Roam three days a week to try and exhaust her. Probably exhausted us more than her lol. You can absolutely trust Tom and his trainers with your pup and I promise you if you've been struggling and things haven't been working--reach out to Tom! I can say wholeheartedly that this was the best investment we've ever made.

Joyce gave me a phone consultation, then scheduled a time to meet at my home. She was very professional, friendly, and and followed all COVID safety measures. She addressed my goals during the session, and the training started before I even opened the door, helping with my dog's barking when a stranger visits. She provided thorough notes after our session, which has been valuable to reference back to. Her approach is positive training. She's incredibly informative and makes training realistic and easy to understand. You can tell she does this because she loves it and is passionate about it! She truly cares about helping people communicate well with their dogs and creating a happier home. I can't say enough great things and highly recommend her!

During our first session, Joyce taught me the basics about dog's behaviors, my role in the relationship, and the power of positive reinforcement with training. She provides a write up after the first session that I've referred to many times in the last few months. I signed up for additional sessions and it is safe to say that Harper and I are better dogs/humans from our time with Joyce. We've both come so far, thank you Joyce! I would highly recommend Joyce to anyone.

When we brought him home he could barely focus on us. On walks, he reacted to every plane overhead and every bird, and it seemed like he barely noticed we were there. He had no leash training at all, and was destructive at times, ripping up and eating his dog beds and even chewing drywall. He was a sweet boy, but so anxious and unsettled. That's when we found Steve. Someone I know personally recommended him, as he helped her transform her anxious and very reactive dog when she had almost lost hope. When you first meet him you'll see the big beard, the tattoos, hear the loud music playing at his facility. Beyond the tough exterior, at his core, he is incredibly passionate, very sensitive, and cares immensely for dogs. He is devoted to showing owners how to truly connect with their dogs. Not through bribing their dog for attention with treats, but through building real connection, communication, focus, and trust. He wants you to have a dog who is devoted to you because of your relationship, not because you're waving a treat at them. Watching him work with dogs is incredible. He communicates so naturally through his energy, this centered embodied focus that your dog will respond to immediately. His verbal commands, hand gestures, position, and focus are all aligned and incredibly precise, and this makes it crystal clear to your dog what he wants them to do. It's inspiring to see and makes you want to work hard to achieve that yourself one day. He's also good at working with humans. At one of our first sessions, before showing me a leash handling technique, he quickly paused and asked first if it was okay to touch my hands to demonstrate. I was surprised he even thought to ask. It would have been so easy to miss this as a man, and it showed a lot about who he is. In addition to teaching you the technical skills, he also coaches you. The farther along you get in training, the harder certain skills can get to execute, and he's right there telling you to stop being a perfectionist, that you're doing better than you think, and to keep going. And when something finally clicks, he is genuinely excited for you and your dog. I also appreciate his passion and expertise on the proper nutrition dogs need to be truly healthy, physically and mentally. If you aren't already feeding your dog high quality raw or fresh food, he will encourage you to and educate you on how important it is. He'll explain that nutrition is actually a critical component of your dogs' mental state and ability to achieve focus. He also recommended several supplements that helped transform our pup's gut and skin health, and turned his coat from itchy and flaky to shiny and healthy - he now looks like a seal and legitimately gets compliments everywhere on his coat. Our dog is now a year old, still very much a puppy for the Doberman breed. We've had him for just 5 months and he is able to go with me to stores and sit outdoors at restaurants and settle in quietly. We no longer worry about him being destructive in the house. He does well with other dogs of all sizes and even those who aren't well-behaved. At dog parks when something chaotic is happening, our dog is now able to disengage and stay focused on me instead of joining in like he would have before. People genuinely can't believe how young he is or that we haven't had him very long and constantly comment on how calm he is. He's also able to be gentle and snuggle with our 17 year old cat. What Steve gave us went so far beyond training. He really helped our dog who had a hard start in life learn to communicate with his humans and finally feel okay in the world. We're so grateful.

It is worth acknowledging that Nitro makes use of prong and e-collars in their training method, and if you have concerns about these tools, I am happy to report there's nothing to be concerned about. I have witnessed my dog gaze up lovingly and with attention at Steve while under his guidance on a prong collar; you could feel the genuine connection between trainer and dog. This kind of experience was enough for me to put any concerns I had aside and welcome the training. It's also worth noting that Steve himself can be a bit of a personality, unafraid to speak his mind and get into a range of discussion topics. Underneath the personality is a genuine human, who wants nothing more than for dogs to receive the training that will most help them get along inside the home and the world. Thanks, Steve and Nitro K9 for your help with our dogs!
