(well technically, it was a gas plant first, but then began to sing the body electric in 1905). :::: Fast-forward: 2011 :::: This is when this art decco powerhouse transformed to a stylish playhouse in the style of Shakespeare. This theater had been on my radar for the last couple of years, and my timing just never worked out for venturing down to the hills of wine and to make a visit to the theater....until Winter 2012. On a blustery cold evening, I needed to make a trip down to Walla Walla. I made myself go. I had to. NPR advertised about the Power House's production of "It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play!", for weeks, and I was intrigued and pulled Walla Walla-ward. I was interested by the production, but I was also looking for an excuse to case the joint! ;) I love old theaters (especially if they've been renovated Gangnam Style...sorry, just wanted to say that phrase...not sure who reads these reviews all the way anyway!) ;) The renovation, I believe, is still a work in progress. I heard they are still working on the roof...and the audience & actors noticed this throughout the evening as the winds howled and banged on what seemed like only a tin roof. (A member of the staff came upstairs to the balcony and offered seats downstairs to us if we were too cold. I didn't mind, but some took him up on his offer---I wanted the full environmental experience! I wanted the chance to tell stories about way back in the olden days when I went to the Powerhouse to see a play, and how the roof almost blew off!) Other than the roof, the facility is top notch. (well, I think the roof adds character along with the expose brick, too). From the lobby, stage, seating, to restrooms, the facility is updated with modernity. And that's what I like. The duality of a renovated structure is attractive. I can't wait to come back for a Shakespearean or modern play. You'll find me looking for excuses to come here again, and again---look for me in the balcony!

A local church, which already took over a fantastic business and forced it out of business, is again ruining Walla Walla. Cinemark says they will build a new theater but i doubt that will happen. We will now have to drive OUT OF TOWN JUST TO SEE A MOVIE! Walla Walla is pathetic. If you are reading this and are thinking of moving here - then think again. There is absolutely NO social outlets (except CHURCH or wine tasting) here - you will be bored out of your minds. Poor healthcare, no social amenities. Oh, there is enough wine to stay drunk if that's your thing. If you think you're going to do "outdoorsie" activities then you are mistaken. You don't want to end up on some property you're not supposed to be on or you'll be shot at - no kidding. I hate this town and if i had the money would leave. (BTW - my family has lived here since the beginning. My great grandfather moved here sometime in the late 1800's so i have EVERY right to be this bummed out!)

Unfortunately, we were told in error that the hotel was dog-friendly, only to later discover it wasn't. My husband (who is a platinum) tried calling the manager several times to confirm and work something out but never received a response. Rather than risk driving four hours to Walla Walla only to be turned away, we decided to change plans. For the first time in a long while we skipped a Marriott stay and went with the Hilton instead and it turned out to be a great choice. The Hampton Inn in Walla Walla welcomed our dogs with open arms, had beautiful suites, and made us feel right at home. It's been years since we stayed at a Hilton property, but this experience reminded me that sometimes looking over the fence is the best way to go.

They had a mini bottle of champagne for our anniversary in the room. I forgot to take pictures of our room and the lobby but you can sit and enjoy your wine in the lobby. There are 4 tasting rooms on the ground floor as well as a restaurant and bar. Both the restaurant and bar staff great and the food and drinks were good. We also got 3 $15 dining credit cards to use which was nice. Location is central - close to many tasting rooms and restaurants. We are definitely coming back to stay here for our next visit to Walla Walla.
