This was my first time ever going to an eye doctor and getting glasses, and honestly the experience…read morefelt very misleading. I went in expecting a simple exam and basic glasses. I was told my exam copay was $10 and that my insurance would cover $200 toward frames. However, I ended up paying over $200 out of pocket. When I later reviewed the insurance claim, I realized I had been charged for multiple lens "upgrades" that I was never made aware of and that were never clearly explained to me. The first part of the appointment went well, the girl lady at the front desk was very nice and patient and the optometrist was kind and very likable. At the end, I went to pick out my frames which is when I was told about the $200 frame allowance. After choosing my frames, we moved on to the lenses. I was asked if I wanted to add anything, and I specifically said I only wanted scratch-resistant lenses--nothing else. That guy was also nice. However, the insurance claim shows charges for things like anti-reflective coating, aspheric lenses, and UV protection. None of these add-ons were clearly explained to me or presented as optional with pricing. At no point was I walked through what was being added or what it would cost me out of pocket. When I was told my total was $237, I was honestly confused. I tried to look at the screen to understand the breakdown, but it wasn't visible from where I was sitting. Instead of walking me through it, I was simply told that my insurance didn't cover the retina scan. If that was the case, I don't understand why I wasn't informed beforehand that it would be an additional charge. I hesitated because I didn't fully understand, but felt put on the spot and ended up paying anyway. The receipt I was given was like the one you get from the Chinese restaurant around the corner, only had the total price with tax, no actually break down of the costs. To make it more frustrating, I still notice glare when wearing the glasses, despite being charged for anti-reflective coating, which makes me question the value of what I was actually given. As someone who has never gone through this process before, I trusted the staff to guide me clearly. Instead, it felt like things were added without proper explanation or consent, which left me paying significantly more than I expected. I'm not saying the staff was rude, because they were all very nice--the process just lacked transparency. For first-time patients especially, there needs to be clearer communication about what is included, what is optional, and what the actual out-of-pocket cost will be before anything is finalized. I would recommend asking for a full cost breakdown upfront and questioning every add-on before agreeing to anything.

Update: Now it's been almost 3 months to get an update on my sunglasses. Still, no one has called…read moreme back since the initial call a few weeks ago, when they were with a "rep," so I walked into the office today. They sent a young tech to tell me they couldn't find anything and asked me if I had received a call. I said no. I quickly gave her the history of what has been happening and about my call earlier in January. She dug around and pulled my file, and the poor thing had to tell me I had an additional $547 due. What?? It's been three months, and my initial visit was Dec 6, 2022. No one has attempted to call me to tell me I owe money and that they were not ordering my sunglasses, either. I paid in full for the sunglasses. WTH? I told her I was not mad with her, but the other ladies in that office for putting her on this, and their lack of backbone. I told her I'm done, I wanted a refund of what I had already paid, and they could have the glasses. She said she'd have to talk to Dr. Russ about the refund. I said I wanted to talk with him, as well. I waited. No Dr. Russ, but she appeared with a check for my initial eyeglasses, but not my sunglasses, so I came back the next day to get my second refund. Upon arrival, there was another couple on their phone outside, and based on what I heard, and after talking with her husband, they went through the same. Ordered glasses and after a month, and paying, no glasses! They were offered a check, too, but were hesitant. Evidently, I'm not the only "patient" going through the waiting game at this business. Better business bureau needs to know this, or even WRAL.

Good eye doctor glasses are kinda expensive, but the ladies are really helpful with helping you get…read moreyour glasses adjusted and fitting into your face. They have many different locations so that's also nice depending on where you are can schedule an appointment close to you. I don't like sometimes I come in and they switch my doctor up. I wish they just keep my appointment with the doctor that I'm scheduled to see but overall today I had to go visit so I'll say five stores. I recommend them and like a couple other places I went they usually get my glasses prescription right and if they don't, they get it corrected

I was looking for a new eye doctor since my previous one retired. I was told when I made the…read moreappointment that the doctor could write a prescription for the specific contacts I wore and had been wearing for 15 years or more and confirmed with them the brand and type. During the exam I was told to try something different which I did and they bothered my eyes so upon a return visit I requested the contacts that I requested the first time and finally got the correct prescription. After my new glasses were made I found out that during the eye exam my glasses prescription was misread by the Tech and my left eye now had a lower power than the current eye glasses I was wearing. I was told by the office that if I came back in they could verify if there was an issue but they would charge me $50 if it was not their mistake. When I returned they verified that they made a mistake and I had to schedule a 4th visit to see a doctor and get a prescription that was correct. Upon my 4th visit the eye doctor didn't listen to anything I said and changed the prescription in both eyes to be way too powerful when I only asked for my left to be changed to what it was in my current glasses. I went back in and asked for the same thing after seeing how much he changed the prescription for both of my eyes. He was reluctant to change it back and he did get the power correct the 3rd time, but added a big stigmatism to my left eye. My right eye has always had the stigmatism. Needless to say my left eye still doesn't like the prescription and after 4 visits I still don't have a prescription as good as my previous one, so I am wearing my old eye glasses. I won't be going back. Bottom line: They don't listen to anything you say and all they care about is getting your money. Very disappointing experience.
