The owner of the shop manages everything himself and has been well educated when it come to coins and currency. I know he doesn't display everything in the store but if you call and ask for something specific he can tell you right away if he has it but if he does not have it in store he calls back at your request after checking his full inventory. He has never disappointed me in my collection needs and even appraises my lot or American or World currency when he has the time. He provides more information and fun facts that I wouldn't think to ask or notice about my collection. I am glad I stumbled his store a few years back and will suggest checking out what her has and even ask if you has anything you might like in his inventory. He has even located and helped me find some pieces in my coin collection. His prices are sometimes better than most. I suggest calling in ahead to see if he answers the call, sometimes he is out of the office or leaves early. Went in to buy an ounce of silver today and tried to get a better price on the silver maple-leaf coin(common coin shop practice), when he told me the it would be 4 dollars over spot. His response when I told him Libertycpm was charging only 2.81 over spot was that I could go to that store instead. My purchase was made and I went on my way. He will not see my business again, and I suggest others be warned of his prices and lack of customer service. read more

I came into possession of some Morgan and Peace dollars that belonged to my grandfather, as well as some small silver bars and a commemorative coin set. Not being a collector, I looked into selling them on E-Bay, did some research and decided to take them to Poway Coin. The owner was very nice and the price he offered was more than fair and frankly more than I had expected for the various coins and bars. I walked out with cash and the pleasure of knowing I wouldn't have to hassle with selling on E-Bay. Poway Coin would be my first stop should I ever need to sell more coins or bullion. read more

I've been getting silver (1 oz rounds, 10 oz bars) from this shop for several years. The owner, Bill, is a pleasant enough fellow. As far as a previous review where the gentleman didn't seem happy because Bill wouldn't match the price of an online seller, well, yeah, he has his prices and doesn't barter. But I trust him to give me the best deal, and I can take hands-on delivery of my silver (or gold, if you have that kind of scratch) right then and there. I don't buy the Eagles or Maples for just the reason mentioned in another post, they are more over spot. Bill usually charges $2 over spot, which is competitive, and he has even charged me only $1.75 over spot when he was getting it for less. Can't think of much else to say other than - he's got the goods, and seems like an honest guy. read more

I had an Estate Collection of coins that I needed appraised. I went to Poway Coin for a 2nd opinion appraisal because I was not comfortable with the first appraiser. Bill was very friendly, professional, and willing to share his knowledge. He took the time to answer my questions. I had a lot of questions about coins, estate value, and how estate appraisals worked, etc. He took the time to explain it all to me. His price to appraise was very reasonable. I've bought and sold coins from Poway Coin Shop and found the owner to be a very respectful and honest business owner. He will take the time to talk to and educate customers on the finer points of buying and selling. I think the prior reviewers rating is too harsh for a one dollar difference in price on ONE coin. A small business needs to make a profit to stay in business. Ding someone a star if you don't like their prices, but let's be fair with our ratings. Back to my review. I first visited the shop in December of 2012 and I have been very pleased ever since. Its a small shop but they have a great assortment of coins and very fair prices. The owner and customers have always been very friendly and a great source of information on all types of coins. During the crash of metals in 2013 vendors were charging huge premiums on coins but the pricing here remained consistent. This shop has earned my loyalty. read more
