Here's the thing about CoGo, I love the idea, it's a great way to get around the city, especially if you do not want to get your car out and are out of town. But... Yes, there's always a "but." When I was in the city last year I partook in CoGo and enjoyed in immensely. I really did. My friend and I zoomed all over the city and just enjoyed the day while getting sunburn while on the bike. Maybe it was a good thing that CoGo was still fairly new and there was no Yelp page yet, because I'm sure my review would have had a different tone. Why, you may ask? I visited in August last year, the charge for the time I used the bike did not appear on my statement until December. Not good, not good at all. But I accepted it. This year, I got a bike at one of their stations again and was disappointed yet again. This bike needed maintenance. It kept shifting between gears without me even touching the shifter. Also one of the tires was a bit messed up and I just about went flying into the cement sidewalk. I also don't understand why I need to keep swiping my card over and over again to get a new access code. Makes me feel like I'm being charged over and over again for the rental. read more

Standard bike share. I've used bike shares in other cities while vacationing, and daily for commuting for 2 years while I lived in DC. Yes, you only get 30 minutes free at a time, but that's plenty for running an errand, or getting to another station to dock. You just have to keep an eye on the time and be aware of where stations are. Bikes are heavy - you're not going to be racing on these, but they're simple to use and reliable. My only complaint is that they do not have a station near my current office (by Franklin Park), so I am unable to use it for commuting. read more

Glad to read other yelpers' reviews and seeing that I wasn't the only one who got ripped off. Was under the impression that the bikes were $8/day, but got charged more than that. Called their rep, and turns out you had to return it within 30 minutes each trip. The rep made it seem like it was obvious that this was the case. Evidently it's not clearly communicated at all at point of rental, as you can see from the yelp reviews. If people are confused about how it works, either give them full refunds or fix your instructions!!! read more

I'm a huge fan of alt transportation, and CoGo fits in perfectly with Columbus. If you're not familiar with bike sharing, all you have to do is find a CoGo station (throughout the downtown neighborhoods), rent a bike, and drop it off at another station. It's an awesome way to see the city, and it partners well with traveling by CBUS and car2go. If you're in town for the day or the weekend, just get a day pass for $8 or a 3-day pass for $18. You can have unlimited 30-minute rides! With so many stops everywhere, there really isn't a reason to go over that time limit. You'll probably want to stop and site-see or grab a bite to eat anyway. If you live in Columbus and are downtown often, a membership might be the way to go instead. read more

Beware of the company wording for their pricing for their "one day unlimited day pass" They advertise it as $8 dollars a day. If you have it longer than 30 minutes they start charing outrageous fees and they will not refund you the difference. Their response was, you agreed within the terms and conditions to the fees. its intentionally misleading advertisement...I AM NEVER AGAIN renting the bikes!! Good bikes and locking mechanism. I found the 30 minutes to be more than enough time to ride between stops. Schiller Park credit card reader didn't work and kept us on the phone five minutes then had to walk up to Sf. Mary's for a functional station to get bikes. Had a fantastic time on the bikes. Great locations to pick up and drop off. Bikes were in great condition. Thought the price seemed more than fair. Grabbed our receipt after turning in the bike and we were completely satisfied.... UNTIL 24 hours later when our credit card was over charged. Completely feel taken advantage of and mislead. Customer service made it seem as if we were not educated enough to understand their policies. They took zero credit for any confusion. A company that operates like this should be ashamed of themselves. This is another example of large corporations ripping people off. So much for Committing to be fit Columbus! Bike share is a great idea but this system is just too restrictive. We rented two bikes with a day pass ($8 per day) from Bicentennial Park. However, you can't ride the bike for more than 30 minutes at a time. We returned our bikes 3 minutes late (yes, we rode for 33 minutes) and we were charged an additional $3 per bike. For 3 minutes! These rules seem set-up so that the system will fail. We paid $22 for a 33 minute bike ride. Complete rip-off. I guess if you wanted to ride CoGo bikes along the scenic trails, or else where in the city, you could ride every time for fewer than 30 min, dock your bike, and just get another one. Plus, there's no way to verify you've returned a bike. The 'green light' flashes if you've correctly docked your bike. BUT...there's no receipt or other written or digital verification for the user. This is a big negative, because CoGo states that lost bikes are subject to a $1200 charge. What if someone returned their bike, but the system doesn't properly record it? Big flaw. Again, a good idea. But it really needs to be improved. read more

Horrible great idea set up horribly. 30 minutes doesn't give you enough time and the ridiculous $3 late fee that re occurs every 30 minutes you are over your allotted time (which on the kiosk doesn't mention this noticeably) so unsuspecting people are thinking OH COOL rent a bike for a full 24 hours....then you get hit with all the hidden fees. and even if you buy the annual pass you STILL have to dock it every 30 minutes. What a rip off. I now have 180 dollar bill that is coming out of the bank account and now I get to choose to either have my bank account in the negative for a whole week or eating. I will never use this service again. I could have literally bought a bike for the 180 dollars you charged my card. Continue robbing people of their money. I loved CoGo... until I got my bill. I paid more in late fees than I did for my actual rental. I called to ask about the charges, and found out that I (allegedly) had many rides between 30-35 minutes. Despite my being mindful of the time limitation, I apparently don't ride around downtown with the exactitude required by CoGo. One downfall of the system is that there is no record to show the rider when you redock the bike, and therefore I didn't have any proof to substantiate my claims that my rides were less than 30 minutes. The customer service agent was very rude, refused to reverse any of my fees, and told me that even 10 seconds over generates a penalty fee. Rather than be nickel and dimed, I've learned my lesson and will be purchasing my own bike in the near future. read more

I got this bike, a good quality bike, from COGO the other night. Rode it 10 minutes home and then returned it in the morning because I had a 24 hour pass, so 10 hours was no problem for $8. At least that's what I thought until two days later I get charged $68!!!! What?! I talked to the COGO support guy and he was a complete dick about it and said oh that's too bad, it's our policy and you should have read it. WHAT? I didn't see anything about an over charge after 30 minutes of use... It said 24 hours. That was one of only two options in big letters that was available. But nope. I guess if you don't scroll down and read that giant ass policy that you accept in detail, you don't know. You have to read the deceiving small print otherwise they screw you over. And I am not nearly the only one this has happened to. This is a very deceiving business and I will never EVER recommend this to anyone nor use it again. I'm a osu student and expected to pay $8 but then nope! When I saw the share bike I thought that was the greatest idea. That is until got a sticker shock when I saw a charge on my credit card for $83.00. I thought I was renting the bike for 24 hr for a fee of $8.00. It was not until I contacted customer service that I was informed that I did not read the very small print that had instruction that were barely legible that I had to dock it every 30 min.. it's a great scam to charge crazy fees. I could have bought a bike at Walmart and throwing it away when I was finished and it would have not cost much more. I'm sure there is a reason why they do not put the restriction of 30 min limit before you have to dock it. So they can overcharge you. BEWARE THAT YOU NEED TO DOCK IT EVERY 30 MINUTES OR BE CHARGED THE PURCHASE PRIZE OF A CHEAP BIKE FROM WALMART. Note: the screen was barely legible also. Another way to scam potential customers. Rented the COGO bike for red white & boom under the belief that I would be paying $6 for 24 hours, as is blatantly advertised. It was late when returning so I elected to wait until morning under the belief it was good for 24 hours. I was surprised to see an $80 charge on my card the following day. I later realized (my fault, I understand) that the 24 hours requires that you swipe your debit card every 30 mins. My only gripe is that COGO do a better job explaining the terms & conditions in their advertisements. read more

I, like many others here, did not take 10 minutes to read the user agreement before renting my bike. What I thought would be a few dollars for a ride ended up being $28. Who in the world wants to rent a bike and then plan their day around bike stops every 30 minutes?? The concept of renting a bike for a couple of hours to enjoy our beautiful city is a great idea. Having to stress about check-in times while doing it, is not. CoGo, under the statement "$8 for 24 hours," could you not add, "if checked in every 30 minutes"? I have to say, it seems deliberately misleading. Studies show we all share our negative experiences much more often than our positive ones. Take note, CoGo. Do not be deceived by CoGo's bike share program. $8 is a very reasonable rate for a 24-hour pass. However, this pass is limited to 30 minute sessions. If you do not re-rack the bike often enough, you will be charged an extra $3 fee for every 30 minutes the bike goes un-racked. Of course, the kiosks do not prominently advertise the fees or the fact that you must return your bike every 30 minutes. Instead, each rider must know this when accepting CoGo's terms and conditions. This is simply a misleading business practice. The only "customer service" provided after they overcharge your credit card is if you call, they will forgive 50% of the fees for first-time users. read more

CoGo and the Terrible, Awful, No Good, Very Bad Day Ever see a business idea and think, I wish I would have thought of that! Well, that was me and CoGo, until I actually tried it. It's the quintessential great idea terribly executed. A perfect example of greed and failed technology trumping common sense. Here's my story. A coworker of mine decided it would be a cool idea to take a team bike-ride to lunch on a casual Friday. The weather was great, and it was a nice day for a ride. The $6 rental seemed a little steep for a short round-trip, but we figured it was reasonable for a 24-hour rental. Before leaving, we visited the CoGo website to check the station map and make sure there were bikes and docking stations available for a group of six. We planned our route well and verified that there were plenty of docks available at the station closest to our lunch destination. With our spirits high, we jaunted over to the CoGo station and began the process of checking out our bikes. This is where the experience started to fall apart. First of all, the registration and check-out process is buggy and tedious. All six of us had to go through the entire process twice, because on the final screen of the check-out, it would say it could not process and would send us back to the beginning to start all over. The entire check-out process took 15 minutes for six of us. The problem is, the code you get is only good for 5 minutes. So the first person to check out had to enter his code and then wait 10 minutes for the rest of us to check out. All this time he is "on the clock". And here's where the stupidity of this system becomes apparent. The CoGo powers-that-by inexplicably think it's a good idea to charge $6 for a 24-hour rental that can only be used in 30-minute chunks. That's right, if you don't "check in" within 30 minutes, they charge you an extra $3 for the next 30 minutes. It doesn't matter if you go over by 5 seconds or 29 minutes. Now consider the fact that we had to sit there for 10 minutes before we could even start riding, and we had a 20 minute ride to lunch... and you can guess what happened. Most of our group ended up being charged the extra $3. So no we're up to $9 just for transportation to go to lunch. Ok. Fine. It's annoying, but we're still up for the adventure. This is where it takes a turn for the worse. We ride to our destination only to find that the station that the website said had 8 available docks now had only 2. The closest alternative station is about 3 blocks away, and we have no idea whether there will be any docks there either. Deciding to take a chance, we decide to just check-in our bikes two-by-two to reset the clock and then ride to the other station. This is where the stupidity reaches new heights. Upon checking in the bikes, we learn that there is a 5-minute freeze on your rental once a bike is checked in before you can check it or another bike out. So with 4 more bikes to check in and all the docks now in use, there was no way to avoid the overage charge. Plus, we were stuck there for at least 15 more minutes just so we could reset the clock and ride back to work. We couldn't just leave the bikes and take a chance going to lunch, because the replacement charge for a stolen or lost bike is $1200. So there we were, stuck on the corner of 2nd and High 45 minutes into our lunch break, $9 down and counting, and still no lunch. So we got takeout from White Castle in shifts, ate it on the side of the road and waited for CoGo to finally release all of us from their greedy grasp. Here's where it gets comical. In the course of all the checking in and out, apparently two of the people on the team mixed up their bikes. So when one guy thought he was checking in his bike, he actually checked in someone else's bike. The problem is that the bikes are connected to your credit card. So when this guy tried to check out what he thought was his bike, it told him his bike was already checked out and wouldn't let him check out another. After a frustrating 10 minutes on the phone with customer service, they finally allowed him to check out a different bike. Meanwhile... we're all on the clock and had to do another check-in/check-out sequence. 90 minutes after leaving for lunch, we finally returned to the office. Quite a different experience than the leisurely ride to Northstar Cafe we had planned. Bottom line -- CoGo is a novelty at best, a scam at worst, and a good reminder that even great ideas don't sell themselves when you've got a terrible business model. Change it to a flat-rate 24-hour rental without the ridiculous 30 minute shifts, and I may give your business one more shot. Otherwise, keep your dorky cruisers and your nickel-and-dime pricing to yourself. read more

They don't clearly communicate the fact that you have to dock the bike every 30 minutes when you buy an "all day" pass, and then they charge you every time you go over the 30 minutes. Our $32 pass for four bikes turned into $131 because of extra fees and they said one was "attempted to be docked, but not done correctly". Based on all of the reviews/complaints, they obviously have a problem and have done nothing to remedy it. Take a scooter/Uber or Lyft. CoGo is a scam.. read more

For the first time experience, it was alright. Price is not bad for a good ride around downtown or surrounding areas but gets annoying having to dock the bikes every 30 minutes. If you go over 30 minutes you get charged $3 for each bike you have, so its best to set a timer to make sure you don't go over. Although you can achieve a lot during the 30 minutes you have the bikes out, you have to map out where to go next in order to make sure you have a docking station around you in case your 30 minutes are up. read more

At the time of my review 4 reviews were shown that are now filtered away by Yelp. Each rated CoGo as 1 STAR and for good reasons. CoGo is about worthless for a group of riders. It seems that experiences are bad enough that people are using Yelp for the first time to tell you all about it and Yelp does not show those reviews. CoGo is is only practical for at most 3 riders - the size of my group. The 30 minute check-out limit is WAY WAY too short. 45 minutes would accommodate trips much better, but since they've got a $1,200 or so bill dangling over our heads in case we off with the bike, why not let us use it for a couple of hours?? $75 for an annual pass seems like a great deal for local folks (who still must check-in every 30 minutes). $6 for an entire day is good too, IF you want the bike for a day. If you want it to go to lunch like we did a lower fee for up to about 2-3 hours would be very nice. I will not likely use CoGo again due to the $6 daily fee and short 30 minute check-ins. My group of three took the bikes from the Arena district to German Village and had to fuss with turning them in once along the way and once on the way back. When we turned them back in for the final time there were just 2 bikes at that Arena check-in. Had it been that way when we first arrived, we would have had to wait there for a third bike. read more

I will never use this bike service again! My husband and I went Kayaking and afterwards needed to get back to our car. We walked past the bike system and decided to rent two bikes. I read the directions and went about renting two of them. Cost said 8 per day for 24hrs, so 16 total. Only needed it to get back to my car, maybe an hour ride. 16 dollars for an hour I thought was high but didn't want to walk all that way so I paid it. Four days later I look into my car and noticed I got charged 28 dollars. I called and was told that because I didn't park the bike every 30 minutes that I went over the 30 min rule and for that I was charged 6 more dollars each. Completely rude and made it sound as if I was dumb. I thought I had 24 hours, no where did I see anything stating I had to park the bikes on their racks then retake them back out. How crazy does that sound? If I rented it for 24 hrs then why in the world would I have to park it every 30 mins, use the system again and get a new code and then retake the bike back out. That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. I will never use this company again. 28 dollars for a hour bike ride, is crazy. read more
