I was only mildly impressed with "Coffee & Me." I like my coffee "black" ("café negro" en español), and this restaurant just doesn't do that very well. It's a pleasant enough place, but I can't recommend the coffee.
1) To begin with, the location itself is great: very central to the main (not hotel) portion of Cancun, with many bus lines stopping right out front or a block away (including the R1 and R2 to the hotel zone). The inside is also clean and pleasant, with lots of comfy seating, great a/c, and fast, free wifi.
2) The gentleman who helped me was super nice and friendly. I'm not sure if he spoke English as I spoke to him in Spanish, but the menu is in both languages.
3) The coffee menu itself is way more geared toward sugary, creamy drinks (there were about 20 of them on the menu) than pure coffee drinks like pour-overs or aeropress. Actually, there is no traditional coffee here; just like most places in Europe, the coffee is all espresso. That's not, by itself, a bad thing; I've had many, many great Americano (elongé or café negro in some countries) drinks which is just espresso and hot water. However, the café negro here was not very good: super bitter with no real notes or other flavors. All in all, just not an enjoyable cup of coffee.
Bottom line is, if you are looking for a nice, air-conditioned café to hang out in, or if you like sugary, creamy coffee drinks, this place is probably ok. However, if you are more of a purist and are looking for coffee that brings out the natural flavors of the beans, this is not your spot. read more
