Very delicious coffee and chocolate. It took a while to find since we parked in the wrong lot, but lots of great scenery of the lagoon and man made canal. We both had an iced mocha and they were excellent. Perfect amount of sweetness. The coffee is medium roast so much more palatable than the famous $. Wow, this coffee was great! I saw how they specialized in locally grown cocoa. I decided to try out their iced mocha, which is a drink that most places don't get right. Well, this place definitely makes their mocha drinks right! Being a saccrophobe, I asked them to not include sugar in my drink. They complied, and the drink still came out tasting great. They also sell merchandise that is chocolate based - shampoos, soaps, oils, and chocolate bars (of course). The only down side to this place is the processing time. We discovered this location at La Isla Mall because our hotel was right across the street. We ended up making a 2nd visit on our last evening in Cancun because this place was so good! Ah Cacao is kind of like a Starbucks, but instead of Frappuccinos they sell a small variety of chocolate based drinks, espresso, and chocolate/cacao bars/snacks. I highly recommend the sipping chocolate, especially because it's super cheap at 29 pesos which is less than $2 USD! It's basically a melted chocolate bar in a small espresso cup. They also have tasty lattes with spot on latte art! Be sure to also try their 72% cacao and Mayan chocolate bars, they're to die for! We had a small one and it was so good, I bought a few of their larger bars to take home with me! They also have milk chocolate bars if dark chocolate isn't your thing. The shop is clean and modern, the service friendly and the prices reasonable - especially in a tourist area. You must try the sipping chocolate. At $29 pesos or $1.61 US, you get an espresso sized cup of delicious chcolate. Less sweet than hot coco and chocolate milk, this stuff is grown up and delicious! Starbucks in California tested sipping chocolate about 10 years ago and it didn't stay on their menu long. If Starbucks' sipping chocolate tasted like Ah Cacao, you'd never order another frappaccino again (in general, don't order frallaccinos anyway.) In total, we spent about $740 pesos on various edibles and other chocolate souvenirs to take home. We received a reusable tote to carry everything, which is nice. We found this place a bit less chocolatey then we could have wanted, it was more or less a coffee bar, with a few chocolate items. We got the frappe(extreme chocolate) and a chocolate ganache cake to share, as we couldn't find any other chocolate items to eat, and decided we would re-order if we wanted more. After reading other reviews I was really excited to try Ah Cacao's mocha. Unfortunately I found my mocha to be a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it was good, I was expecting a place like Ah Cacao to have a mocha overflowing with rich creamy chocolate that knocked my socks off. I must admit I have been spoiled by Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate in Sacramento so my standard is ridiculously high. We ordered a slice of chocolate fudge cake and a slice of corn cake to go with our mochas. The fudge cake was smooth and creamy as you would expect and the corn cake was really good too. Who would have ever thought a cake made out corn could be so good? We certainly could not leave without going inside for some chocolate shopping. I am admittedly a chocolate junky and wanted one of everything which fortunately did not kill my budget like chocolate shopping in Las Vegas. Unfortunately Mexico caught up with my stomach and the chocolate was not experienced. I was still too sick when I returned home so I stuck them in the refrigerator and forgot about them. After a few months of feeling like I constantly had the flu, I went on a keto diet and began to feel better but I am extremely restricted with my carb intake. Then one day I came across these chocolate bars while moving things to the new refrigerator we bought each other for Christmas. I was delighted to see that two of the bars were low in carbohydrates so I could eat them and still remain on my diet. The first bar was a milk chocolate bar called Chocolate Con Leche. It was so creamy and delightful. Even though it was made with just over 36% cacao, the chocolate still held its own. The second bar was 72% cacao and was by far the smoothest dark chocolate bar I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Imagine that rich dark chocolate flavor with only a really light hint of bitterness and the smooth texture of milk chocolate rather than that waxy texture you often get with dark chocolate. As I was searching Cancun for a good coffee shop, Ah Cacao popped up on Yelp. I mean a coffee shop and chocolate?! What more can you ask for?! Since my husband and I rented a car we drove down here one morning. We didn't realize it was located in the outdoor mall so we ended up paying for parking, but it was only 15pesos (less than $1USD). We both ordered the mocha frappe and a side of the sipping chocolate because YOLO. The mocha frappe was the perfect mix of chocolate and coffee. There were also bits of chocolate crunchies on top of the drink, which were so good especially when they sank to the bottom of the drink at the end. Now onto the sipping chocolate- WHOA! It was so rich and completely unnecessary with our mocha frappes, but it was divine! We probably sat outside and drank our coffee for about 30 minutes and the sipping chocolate stayed the same consistency. I would recommend ordering a shortbread cookie with it to dip it in.
