I was greeted immediately when walking in. There was no line and the shop isn't too noisy at 7am. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Air conditioned inside. Handicap accessible restroom available. Super quick service with a good variety of food and drink options. The food tastes great, and the tea was exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. Horrible service. I really wanted to support a local business, but the experience was not worth it. The morning barista (younger woman) was extremely rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful to customers. I even called later to speak with a manager, hoping to resolve the issue, but that was just as disappointing. He dismissed my concerns and said he's never seen her act that way--well, of course not, most people don't behave like that in front of their boss. Unfortunately, the coffee (and prices) itself wasn't good enough to make up for the poor service. I won't be returning. read more

Great place to eat, chat, and study. Many outlets for laptops (didn't check wifi availability) and the cafe has spaces during the weekend. Parking can be easily done on the streets. Coffee Works definitely works for me! I am so impressed with this local, family owned business. It has been operating since 1982 and I am just getting acquainted with all the incredible coffees, pastries and hot food items they offer. I found it on yelp when I was in Sacramento for an appointment. Peeps were saying a lotta great things. I wanted a coffee and something to go with it... so let's go! Parking is always a concern in Sacramento midtown. The Yelp business profile mentioned a few private parking spaces down the alley behind the shop. I found them easily. Nice! I was trying to take it all in as I entered. It was obvious this was not your trendy, hipster coffee hangout. But rather the definite neighborhood, community place to drink good coffee (mine sure was) and have a breakfast nosh, an afternoon scone or anything else from the vast array of delicious looking food items. Impressive! Sooo many choices of everything! I have photos:) It was an off hour morning visit but there were many people enjoying their food and drinks. I settled up on an extra hot, oat milk coffee drink and raisin scone. Of course I had to buy some of those big, good-looking pastries to take home too. Candice, the woman behind the counter, was just the perfect, chill person for this sweet coffee shop. She was patient, friendly and a kind person. A few minutes of interaction with her and you felt so at ease. She seemed to know everyone who stopped in too. And very knowledgeable about all the coffee drinks and pastries. You are definitely appreciated, Candice! Older people, young, even a mother and two kids were comfortably settled at old fashioned tables having a moment. There is even an area where items for kids are available to play with. Entertainment. Wow! A nice patio in the front for warm days. And to bring your favorite pooch. What a beautiful well kept secret! I never knew this coffee shop was here in all the years I lived downtown before. I wanted to try a new coffee shop today and am on the way to my son's grave. The pastries look like they are made with love! I seen several options such as spiced vanilla latte and wanted a vanilla latte no spice which was no problem when I placed my order. Do you love strong coffee?? This coffee is fresh and will put together so delicious and strong, but not overpowering strong to where you can't stand it. My husband tasted it first I said how is it? He said I like it and I said oh gosh, it's strong, but I went to take a drink of it and I was surprisingly happy that it wasn't overly strong, but I definitely know this is gonna give me the kick I need today. Prices for two came out till about $17 Please note that you have to let them know to add the tip in if you're using your Apple Pay or card which I did not know and I felt so bad because I like to tip, but they were so sweet about it and gave me no hassle. I have been wanting to check out Coffee Works for a while now and I was finally able to walk over today while my daughter attended her Jiu Jitsu class. The inside is homey and inviting and the staff were very welcoming. The inside was decent sized with seating on either side of the coffee shop and it was filled with regulars. I was overwhelmed in a good way with the amount of pastries and breakfast items, but finally decided on the Coffee Cake, Plain Croissant, Herb Egg and Prosciutto Croissant and the Ham and Cheese Croissant. We also ordered the Vanilla Coke Cold Brew (yes, soda) and the Strawberry Peach Iced Tea. The Herb Egg and Prosciutto Croissant was very good! I would definitely order this again next time and the Coffee Cake was nice and moist, but not too sweet. The Vanilla Coke Cold Brew was very interesting and the soda just somehow worked well with the cold brew - I would order this again too! Overall, I think Coffee Works is a great little coffee shop and I love that it's convenient for me to visit on Saturday's now! This review is for coffee beans I recently purchased while visiting the area. I was pleasantly greeted upon entering. I asked if they sold coffee beans, and boy do they! She rattled off a list of options. Too many, I got overwhelmed. Hahaha. But, she said they had single origin coffees too, all of which were light roasts. I went with their darkest of the single origin, light roast. I can't remember the variety. All I know is I've been enjoying a great cup of coffee since. It's not acidic at all and yet quite bold in flavor. read more

There is a lot to like about Coffee Works from good tasting coffee to fresh baked goods made in house. Staff members are welcoming too. Prices are on the upper end for coffee and treats. I also like the murals on the bathroom walls. So what is the difference between good and great you ask? The little things. One suggestion Coffee Works is for folks who dish out $20 plus dollars for a pound of coffee how about buying us a small cup of coffee. They've been brewing good coffee to Sacramento's residents all that time. They also offer breakfast burritos, pastries, pizza, and sandwiches. I've spent many a morning fueling up for the day with a hot drink and hearty breakfast. Or an afternoon eating a slice while surfing the web. Their breakfast burritos are filling and reasonable priced at $8.65 including tax. They have good WiFi, clean restrooms, comfortable seats, and some interesting artwork decorating the walls. The service is always good and it has a great vibe. Much different from those cookie cutter corporate coffee shops you see all over Sacramento. Was out refilling our coffee beans from another coffee spots and grabbed drinks there. But was also in the mood for some breakfast eaeats, so we decided to check out Coffee Works for the first time after. There's always a bit of hesitation going to a new spot, as you don't knknow what to order or what's good, and don'twant to hold up the line. So we told the lady behind the counter who was extremely helpful. She told us about their various pastry and breakfast food options, and that thethey're made fresh each mornikeyand then brought to their shop. Stopped in to grab coffee after a busy day running errands in the area. My drink was outstanding, but my biggest joy came from the almond cookie that they were selling. I've been looking for a delicious almond and crusted cookie and they're offering was perfection. I don't know if that was a seasonal thing or if I can expect to grab more than one the next time I'm in the area I sure hope so. It's a cute shop and seems very popular with locals in the area. Coffee Works is in a great spot in East Sac. Its easily accessible and close to the freeway. There is limited parking dedicated to the cafe but there is street parking around. Inside is clean and there are plenty of tables inside and a few on their patio. The service was friendly and super fast. The breakfast burritos were amazing. The tortillas were fresh and everything came out hot. I will say my blueberry muffin and the chocolate muffin were a little dry. Their drip coffee was tasty. The raspberry white chocolate latte was yummy and sweet but not too sweet. The coffee came out super fast. The tables were a little dirty but just with crumbs. They weren't sticky. I came in here a couple of days ago to study since I have a bunch of law school exams coming up and it was amazing energy! I loved the burrito and iced ginger tea so much that I decided to come back today. The blond older lady was super nice and had amazing customer service. I walked in today and automatically given horrible customer service by the younger girl with front bangs. She looked at me like I was crazy when I ordered an iced ginger tea and I told her that a couple of days ago another worker made it for me. She cut me off before I could even finish and said oh well another barrista I guess. I was like ok I get it let's get a hot ginger tea & a cup of ice then. I order and pay. I walk to a table to set up my computer to study and as I'm standing there I can hear the rude worker talking crap saying that I was being rude to her. Besides being unprofessional because you shouldn't be talking about customers where they can hear you, that is also not what happened. I requested a refund because that's unacceptable. I don't recommend this place---Since the customer service depends on what workers are in at that time. read more

Wife and I went to Coffee Works this morning around 10:30. It was quiet as the morning rush was over. We ordered 2 zucchini fritatta's, one blueberry muffin, one black bottom muffin, a 20 oz mocha and a 16 oz latte. Wait person did not ask nor heat up the muffins. Dropped the black bottom in the bag upside down so when i took it out the cream stayed in the bag. Both muffins tasted exactly like old Costco muffins that had been sitting there for a week at least. She did heat up the fritatta's (somewhat) enough to thaw the ice which made them very soggy and tasteless. The red stuff in the container with the fritatta's tastes just like tomato paste right our of a jar. The mocha and latte took over 12 minutes (both my and I used the restroom one after the other and the coffees still were not ready) and they were barely warmer than the room temperature. Being small business owners ourselves we prefer to support other small business owners but this quality gives us no reason to continue supporting Coffee Works. read more

THE SCONES. I want the chocolate chip scone again. I want it so bad. Someone I was with bought a box of baked goods from Coffee Works and I was just in awe. Everything looked so good, but the scone was calling my name. It had the perfect crispy outer shell with the softest inside. Good scones are hard to come by, especially from coffee shops, but this one stands supreme. I thought it had to come from a bakery, but to hear that it came from a coffee shop was surprising, but so impressive. I will dream of these scones! read more

Long Version: I have visited this place a few times. The Baristas are cool, helpful, pleasant. A good many places to sit down (inside/outside). Space is clean, all is fine. Now, for the coffee. I have not been blown away by it...(yet?). Maybe I am getting the wrong thing, and I understand decaf, in many places, is an americano style pour over. So I guess I can't knock them for that. Today it did taste like tea-coffee (not sure if that makes sense). I also tried the herb egg and cheese croissant. Solid 6/10. If I didn't eat it there, I would've doctored it up a bit at home. But it was tasty and hit the spot. All in all, go check em out and show support. The lines come in waves, but service is quick. We parked on the other side of the gas station, less hassle.
