We had not been to Coffee Rush in a while but were nearby and needed a coffee and quick breakfast. This kiosk is a drive up with a window and a service lane on two sides. One side had a car, so I chose the other side. As I pulled up to the empty side, we heard the barista yelling to the customers from her spot in front of the espresso machine out the window which was about a foot away. I mean YELLING. It was so loud we could not hear our nice barista who actually came to the window and greeted us in normal tones. Nor could she hear us. She had to ask for our order twice. Maybe more than twice. When the other car left we were relieved, maybe the screaming would stop. Nope! More customers rolled up and that woman did the same yelling bs with them.They were apparently regulars because she knew their order and proceeded to scream friendly conversation with them. If you call yelling friendly. The breakfast sandwiches were terrible. Flavorless ham and egg slapped on a English muffin. For $6. And our mochas, ordered iced, half sweet, one soy, were syrupy and did not taste like coffee and there was not a soy one. We actually tossed them and drove to Black Rock for new ones. This was a fail. I have liked Coffee Rush for over a decade but unless I want an almond croissant ( they didnt have any left this time) I doubt I would return. The yelling was ridiculous. read more

As much as Portland loves its fastidious, knowledgeable third-wave coffee purveyors, its suburbs love a burgeoning chain that runs on milk and sugar. Coffee Rush isn't the worst of this ilk, but you can just see the founders drooling over that $BROS stock ticker and hoping they're next. In the Human Bean/Black Rock/Insominia ring of passable suburban coffee chains, Coffee Rush is the greybeard hoping for one last shot at glory. Launched in 1992 during that second wave, Coffee Rush's branding looks the part. The forest green and beige, the chalkboard menus, the ripped-from-an-old-Tully's pastry-and-juice case: Even the nod to Italy with gelatto has a quaint, bygone FauxHo sensibility to it. But like its second-wave partners at Peet's, Starbucks and Tully's or Seattle's Best (both RIP), it just doesn't hold up anymore. This drive-thru location is a great reminder of why. Espresso carts aren't anything new in the Northwest, but most of the loggers and commuters who used them learned patience. Coffee Rush's slam-it-home approach is built right into the name and mimics Starbucks and Dutch Bros. fast-and-sweet approach to espresso-based drinks. The result is warmed-over sugar cream that gives Rhode Island's coffee milk a run for its money. Strip it all away and try it as an espresso or Americano, and you get flavor just a step above supermarket Peet's. There's no quality, just caffeine and a base for syrups and milks (both dairy and plant based!). I give a star to the baristas, who've been nothing but kind and speak to you at a few decibels and BPM below Dutch employees' "OMIGODILOVETHATDRINKITSMYFAVORITEAREYOULISTENINGTOKATEBUSHTHATSSOGREATIMLIKESIXALBUMSINANDILOVEHERYOUDONTEVENKNOW." But drive-thru coffee has taken us back to the days of Maxwell House and Sanka, where "coffee out" meant adding so much cream and sugar to your coffee that your spoon could stand straight up in a tan pool. As the cafes became more specialized, the chains raced to become $5 Dunkin' Donuts. Coffee Rush embodies everything that is wrong with the second wave's approach to coffee, and epitomizes everything chain owners get wrong about northwest coffee and cart culture. I won't be stopping at Coffee Rush again anytime soon, and I just feel sad for people whose expectations are reduced to places like this. read more

Just came by and saw an old picture of the menu and Becca was sweet enough to try and accommodate me! I asked for a Chocolate Bomb (which is no longer on the menu) she told me she was not sure of the ingredients but she would try to make me something similar. When I say this is some the best coffee I've ever had!! She made me a mocha with some Irish cream and barista chips...YUM! Perfect balance of coffee and Espresso! My boyfriend asked for a vanilla Latte and we both agreed it was the best we've had from any coffee shop we've been too. Perfect amount of sweetener and coffee!! Must try this place if not for their amazing coffee for their even better customer service. Thank you Emily! We will definitely be back soon! Good coffee and inexpensive! Sort of in an off beat location (between a pet store and gas sation) but convenient none the less. As I am not a huge fan of Starbucks it was nice to see this kiosk and they array of coffee choices they had. Overall the coffee is good. My drink of choice either being an americano or latte, I have never spent more than $3.50 or so which is pretty decent. Their blended drinks are also quite tasty if you are in the mood for one. The staff here is always friendly and prompt to get your drink. There has never been too much of a line here unless you stop by in the early morning rush. Asked for a triple shot over ice and came out as an iced americano. When poured correctly, a triple shot should not fill the entire 20oz iced cup up to the top. Shots should not be poured directly over ice. When I tried to ask nicely if there was water added to it they assured me that "it's just full of ice" when it's just actually a watered down americano. I come here often on my way to work, and I love them! The gals are super friendly every single time and down to earth, even though they open super early in the morning! I've never seen any of them in a bad mood. The coffee is great and always consistant, no matter which barista is making the drink. Another cute coffee shop. These things are growing on me like herpes. When out NorthWest do as they do!?! The thing that really got me hooked here was their gelato. Multiple flavors to choose from, but the wild berry and caramel flavors were my poison. Plus, this place didn't seem too pretentious or stuffy. And the girl working the counter must have had a major crush on the guy visiting her because everytime he came near her, she lost a few brain cells, grinned shamlessly and messed up someone's coffee order. If I have five minutes to spare on my morning drive to work, I swing by this Coffee Rush. It usually works two or three days out of my day to stop here and when I do, I am a happy girl at work. The best start to a work day is a nice mocha. The baristas are friendly and cheery without being too jarringly cheery for a non-morning person like me. I usually order the mocha or the chocolate chai. Both are delicious. Every drink I've had here has been delicious. This morning I saw their sign for the peppermint mocha when I stopped for a mocha. I work within walking distance of this Coffee Rush, and my co-workers are always in need of some caffine. The first time I wandered over, I was very impressed by their selection of sugar-free syrups. They seem to have it all! Sadly, I was never overly impressed with any of my drinks - I can get my caffine fax at the gas station next door fraction of the price. I know, i was shocked too. They did redeem themselves when I tried their Pumpkin Latte - I've tried 7 different varieties this autumn (yes, it's only mid-October. I'm obsessed), and Coffee Rush's version is one of the best. Since it's only available seasonally, I'll only be going back during the autumn months. If they did a punch card like other locations, I might go back more frequently, but alas, they don't. read more

Yesterday my dear friend gave me a ride to work, and on our way he recommended this drive through coffee for quick charge in the morning. I usually try to avoid high caffeine and dairy product, and lady at the window quickly informed me almond milk is available. So I had 16 oz chai, which was lightly sweetened with each spices in harmonious note. It was not scorching hot either. Made the half hour commute so pleasant! Usually I carry my thermo and drink tea to save money, but this is occasional luxury I will enjoy :) Also tried sugarless mocha later and I was nursing it for an hour with croissant from Nuvrei patisserie cafe. The blueberry muffin was good, but at $2.85 I can't help but feel that the proprietor is banking on customer impulsivity (and 'hanger') rather than trying to generate regular customers. The service was quick and friendly, and the doughnut I had was tasty (although obviously not baked on site) but the coffee was, quite frankly, terrible. I stopped by this place the other day for the first time. I usually go to Starbucks because its familiar and they're everywhere but I decided to be brave and try somewhere new.
