The reviews don't lie. Home town feeling in this restaurant. 9am on a Saturday morning this place was buzzing! Driving through town I picked this place from the reviews and happy I did. We no quicker than parked our butts in a booth and a waitress was there. Waters in hand asked me if I liked coffee. I said yes and she brought us each a cup. She was one of at least 4 waitresses in this small cafe. She pointed out the specials on the board and gave us time to look. I ordered the everything omelette. Came with choice of bread and hashbrowns. She offered an English muffin or English toast. Never had English toast, so I got that. Super filling and tasty, filled with multiple meats, mushrooms, tomato, onion and more. Hubby got corned beef and hash. Came with choice of potato and bread. Our coffee cups never even saw half full. If not our waitress, another was filling them. The coffee was good, the service was spectacular. I loved that our waitress was whitty and all smiles. She chatted with all the tables. We had a larger party and called ahead since other breakfast/brunch places in Alexandria, MN were full. We were seated almost immediately! This breakfast/brunch place had a lot of the American commons for breakfast! They were out of caramel rolls (a Midwestern classic) when we were there so we got the cinnamon roll instead. It was definitely not a disappointment because the cinnamon roll was so delicious and we were given extra frosting as well! The biscuits + gravy + eggs were delicious and creamy and the eggs + bacon + toast were delicious too! I got butter and jam for my toast as well. It's a nice little place. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and soup. They say homemade chicken noodle soup. I'll argue that all day. The sandwich was two pieces of plain white bread, a scoop of chicken salad, barley seasoned but literally chicken and mayo, and some torn up iceberg lettuce. The place was packed so I guess someone liked it. I'll also add everyone there was 70 and older so clearly not draining anything is the way to go there. read more

If you are in or around Alexandria, MN and looking for a breakfast spot give this place a shot. Even though the place was packed to the brim we were able to get a table within minutes. The wait for food was a bit longer but with how packed it was, it was pretty reasonable. I ordered steak and eggs (medium rare and over easy) and my wife got hash browns, eggs (scrambled), and toast. For me the eggs, toast, and hash browns were great but sadly the steak was way over cooked and dry. For my wife the hash browns were over cooked and too crunchy and the eggs were greasy. Due to it being busy we weren't able to bring this up with our waitress until we had eaten everything except the steak. When the waitress came over she noticed immediately, apologized for the steak, and took it off our ticket without us even asking about it. She mentioned that they had been slammed all morning and the kitchen had been backed up all morning too. This didn't seem to be the norm and would definitely give them another try in the future but only if they aren't slammed otherwise I would suggest going somewhere else. read more

Big city gal comes into a small town cafe and gets the small town hospitality immediately. My waitress was a doll. The people of Alex who dine here are as wholesome as the food is. Especially when the table in front of me picks up my tab on their way out! I'm used to big portions and when my meal came out, I thought that I'll need a second order. I didn't. We went here on our way back from the cabin. It's a small place but surprisingly fits a lot of people. It reminded me of my grandmothers house. Very warm and inviting, with a lot of random trinkets and collected items on the walls. It's Sunday so the waitresses were sporting their Vikings jersey. Most food items have ham or other pork item involved but they have pancakes, veggie omelettes and a lot of egg options available. I got the corned beef hash that came with hash browns, toast and eggs your way. It was so cheap at 7.99 and a lot of food. My boo thang got the buttermilk pancakes with a side of sausage. The pancakes were so fluffy and delicious, it was like eating a cloud! I also got a hot chocolate that was quite decadent with whip cream and chocolate sauce drizzled over it. I loved it! You will to :) Our meal total was a little under $20 and we both ate our fill. The staff is wonderful, and you'll enjoy your meal. Go here. Don't go to Perkins. read more

Hearty portions and reasonable prices. I stopped in at the Coffee Pot based on a couple of Yelp reviews that were favorable. This was my first time using Yelp to find a restaurant. This place has good service with an edge (intentionally snippy but funny waitstaff), and the food was excellent. I had the Western Skillet, which is basically a scrambled omelet. The vegetables were fresh, and the potatoes were not your typical frozen potatoes. They were clearly fresh and diced to order. I was only able to finish about half of my skillet, which means the portion was incredible. My niece ordered the pancakes, which were a stack of plate-sized pancakes. She only finished about 1/4 of the stack, and I had pancake leftovers for two more breakfasts! In all, we enjoyed the experience, atmosphere, and the portions. If you ever need to stop in Alex for breakfast, this is the place to go. read more

Loved this quaint little place!! Went twice while we were in Alexandria and both times it was wonderful. They keep the coffee and that's a good thing because it is great coffee. The pancake was HUGE and it was wonderful. Biscuits and gravy were good as well as the eggs and bacon. I wish I could go back every day. Was looking for an alternative to a chain like Perkins for a mid morning breakfast while on vacation in Alexandria, MN and stumbled on a gem of a place right on Broadway. The "Pot" as the locals call it, is a small place with only about 6 tables and 4 booths. Both waitresses really hustle when it is busy, even at the expense of missing the mark on the "Minnesota nice" that is so prevalent in these parts. At times, we found it tough to even get the attention of our server (more ketchup please) let alone exchange Minnesotan pleasantries. Despite this minor shortfall on service, our breakfasts at the Pot were nothing short of outstanding. We had a pair of western omelettes, a veggie omelette and a fresh baked caramel roll. Loved the way they sautéed the onions, peppers 'shrooms and folded them into a relatively thin veil of eggs. We also loved their "english muffin" toast and got a kick out of their small cups of peanut butter they offer with toast along with the usual jelly and jam. Being a small independent, the Coffee Pot is a cash-only establishment and it gives fair warning of this practice on their front door with a mini ATM tucked just inside that front door. With just a little more friendliness by the server, the Pot would have earned all 5 stars. Unfortunately, it feel just short on this visit. We will be back next year. read more

Veered from Travelers Inn hopeful we would find a better breakfast. It was a crowded, busy Sunday morning when we arrived. The ambiance is nicer, the wait staff friendlier. We noted the time when we placed our order, and the food took 30 minutes to arrive. The taste was good but it wasn't hot, so by the time we were halfway through the meal it was cold. After waiting a half hour we decided to suck it up and eat because we were too hungry to send it back. Apparently a mixup in the kitchen caused the delay. Unfortunately we weren't wowed by our experience and are +/- on going back. Maybe this is unusual because it appeared very popular based on the number of patrons in the place. read more

Basically a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, largely locals kind of breakfast and lunch place. It wasn't anything fancy, and isn't intended to be. It's a mom-and-pop joint. I had the pleasure of going here and few times, and enjoyed it each time. It opens early and closes early. I had a "personal" all meat omelet that was very good. The portions are above average and well worth the price... which is quite low, mind you. The only thing that I found to be a bit of an annoyance, was that the first time I went there I went to pay with my card. That was when I found out that they only accept checks or cash. Checks??? The part that kind of irked me was the fact that the ATM machine that they had in the front entrance to the restaurant had like a $3.00 fee. So, I learned to make sure I had cash with me the next time I went. Lesson learned. Still, when back in Alex, I would go back again. read more

It's a good little hole-in-the-wall diner. It has good homestyle food. Service was nothing special. Not bad, but I could've done without the loud conversations with the regulars. It does NOT accept credit/debit. Oh, but they have an ATM! So instead of the business paying the credit card company a 2 cent swiping fee, they make the customer pay a $3 ATM fee. Raise your prices by a quarter to cover the swiping fees. It's 2017. Nobody carries cash anymore. Making my 7 dollar meal a 10 dollar meal to save you 14 cents? How is that good business? read more

Stopped in while out camping, it was fantastic. Huge fluffy pancakes the size of a large dinner plate. The corn beef hash is just what I hope for, a good seared crust from the flat top. Hash browns are plentifully and crispy. Eggs done perfectly. When they are busy it may take a bit for your food but it will be worth the wait. The prices are also very reasonable. read more
