This visit really…read morehighlighted how far Brisbane's foodie scene has come in the last couple of years; you can now find gems such as Factory 51 in areas previously limited to a handful of fast food stores and a fish'n'chip shop on the corner. Instead of the cod and chips bundle, however, I was treated to a snapper fillet, creamy mash potato, charred kale and burnt sage butter. As an avid fisherman, I can safely say that the snapper was so fresh that it was probably helping find Nemo earlier that morning. When you have a piece of fish of that quality, all you need is a simple supporting cast and some TLC, and Factory 51 definitely ticked those boxes! Whilst I didn't indulge in dessert, the vegemite and creme anglaise ice cream was a hit with the birthday girl. We will definitely be back!

There is on street parking. It's opposite a cute little kids playground. Walk up and either put in the order or find a table - there is table service - quick, friendly and efficient. The menu has some old favs like crumpets with passion fruit butter and the usual eggs and toast - both are great. Breakfast Burger is a very tasty meal. The coffee is good. This place is now one of my favorites - love the general store charm. Ohh! It's also dog friendly ( sitting outside) - they serve a puppycino - paw stamp of approval from outer chocolate lab.

We were seated in the back where I got a clear view of the entire restaurant. The place is buzzing! We started off with some coffee, because that's what you do when in Australia. The coffee culture is HUGE here. After everyone arrived, we got down to business. We ordered: Crispy Corn Fritters: absolutely delicious! Crispy corn fritters soft on the inside are served with perfectly scrambled eggs. Not on the menu Breakfast Sandwich: this was for the kids who couldn't find anything on the menu they liked. Essentially a bacon and egg sandwich (on a burger bun). Smoked Pork Hock Hash: my least favorite dish is smoked pork hock potato cake dotted with green harissa, avocado, kefir tahini, and finished with two poached eggs. It wasn't bad, just kinda boring when compared to the rest of the stuff. Eggs Bender: Billykart's version of eggs Benedict. Two poached eggs and a respectable Hollandaise sauce paired with house smoked Ora King salmon, and a side of sauteed mustard greens. No traditional English muffin here, instead a thick slice of rustic sourdough bread substitutes. Aussie Asian Eggs: my favorite dish. Also, possibly the most creative. A cake of fried noodles is topped with grilled prawns and bacon plus two deep fried eggs over the top. Food is good, really good. If you're in the area, definitely stop by.

There were three of us and we loved the meat platter for 2 and the starters that we shared - grilled octopus, Saganaki with caramelised figs and manitari (mushrooms topped with silverbeet, spinach & fetta). The service was pretty friendly and although it was busy, the food came out very quickly.

Yes I've been there twice now. Two weekends in a row around 8am. Both with friends and all trying something different from the menu. Everyone had only positive things to say, except maybe the portions were large and they shouldn't have eaten it all. If you're going for breakfast they are not going to have your typical breakfast foods. But who doesn't love a lunch style menu for breakfast. Regardless, you'll have trouble deciding what to have. It's an eclectic menu and if you prefer something on the lighter side there is a bakery onsite as well. I was told the chef likes to play around when I asked about a particular biscuit/cookie. Think red velvet biscuit with marshmallow inside. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving recommendations with regard to what might satisfy your craving when you've narrowed your decision down to two. For my part there were a lot of meals with eggs which I'm very fussy about so typically just don't choose it (makes sense ). But there were a couple I just really want to try next time and was told some accommodation could be made. Having said that the ingredients in each meal are so well thought out I would really not want to change things up. Unless it was to maybe ask for the egg on the side. Will I be back. Yes definitely, even if just for a coffee and pastry. I will try to not be so excited to eat and even take some photos.

Two visits in one day. Yep, it's not what I'd planned but let's roll with it…read more Picnic might look fairly familiar as you walk into this new Camp Hill hidey-hole. There's good reason. It's the newest member of the Venzin Group family who've delivered Brisbane the likes of Green Papaya and Pawpaw Cafe. In fact, interior wise, you'll feel right at home and wonder if you're in a Pawpaw transplant. You're not although there's touches that keep it familiar. One such touch is executive chef Rory Doyle who's graces in the menu are clear. There's hearty and non-traditional breakfast menu items that all let you select breakfast and a coffee for under $20. Then there's familiar lunch items like the Picnic Burger (this had sold out by the time I headed back for lunch at 12:20pm) and gnocchi. I had the pumpkin gnocchi which was light and filling. It's good quality and again under $20 with a drink. I was pumped for time when I stopped in on my way to meetings this morning so opted for the fruit toast and a coffee. The fruit toast is the lightest I've ever tasted. It really is a fruit brioche. Paired with a light layer of Pepe Saya butter - delicious! Coffee is, as with Pawpaw, Campos but the team are consistently good baristas so the quality remains high. Like Pawpaw there was a steady flow of people and already they're experiencing weekend lines as people trek to taste the new venture. Service is fast, but done well. Granted, I visited on a Thursday but still both visits had at least several other diners in at the same time. For all the similarities, this isn't Pawpaw. It is its own cafe in its own right. Today was the first of many visits I think, and I'm looking forward to see how Picnic grows into it's name and space.

The kitchen is run by a professional, relaxed young Eastern European team and they also produce some Eastern European dishes as well as salads and pasta. They are served in half a somun (a soft chewy flatbread) and are delicious. We give a big thumbs up for their goat cheese, rocket and mushroom salad too. The plan is to work my way through the entire menu, but I started with the basics for my first time around - avocado plate. They do some interesting plating, and in this case it kind of felt like I'd received a build-your-own bruschetta. Three dishes down one side of a wooden block contained smashed avocado, salt and pepper (lots of pepper) tomato salsa and an enormous chunk of feta, while the rest of the surface area was covered in slices of Turkish bread. Everything about it was delicious, although next time I'd probably add eggs. Dave A. added eggs to his mountain of salmon and I was very jealous.

The owner gave me a weird vibe when he introduced himself, and later heard him yelling at a young staff member for no reason. We left halfway through the meal, and decided we would not be returning. Me and my wife believe that the enviroment also matters, so seeing the owner go off at a staff member over something unreasonable was not something we considered a good place to dine.
