Thought we'd go undercover & get a taste of the place for ourselves, expectations fairly high as we do love the Billy Kart Kitchen in Annerley. We liked the quirky yet trendy feature wall which displays deconstructed parts of a Billy-Kart. We were here for breakfast; a simple menu yet diverse in its offering from Spanner crab & scallop congee, to "liege waffles". A range of savoury as well as sweet "waffle & pancake" options with prices from $6 - $21.50 & additional "sides" $4.50 - $7. We decided on the savoury; Carne Asada, fried eggs, habanero salsa, chicharrones, & corn tortilla ($18.50). This dish is absolute tops! Ever so tender pulled pork, perfectly complimenting the crunchy textures of the tortilla & chicharrones. One of the best & unique versions of pulled pork we've had in terms of flavour & a big serving. However, this dish does have a spicy chilli kick, so if you're not that way inclined, it may be too early for your palate (as a breakfast dish) to handle. We also ordered the Buttermilk & Ricotta pancakes, with coconut caramel banana ($16). The pancakes themselves were light, fluffy & whilst ricotta isn't something you will necessarily taste, it adds a magical creaminess to each bite. The coconut caramel sauce though was excellent. Perfect consistency & just the right sweetness, so it didn't overpower the banana flavour as well, but add to it. Service was great, being only their second day & quieter in patronage, I suppose it was easy to get served. But the staff were always friendly, welcoming, & had great suggestions with what dishes to try. Coffee is by Campos Coffee, (& although it's not our fave), it was made well by the barista. Breakfast has a variety of items from simple toast with in-house made jam to full on brekkie. I tried the Potato and Ricotta fritters that were tasty. They use Toby's Estate coffee. Dinner was where it was at though. I had an amazing Lamb and Haloumi dish. The lamb was cooked to perfection and well....haloumi is all that is right in this world. They have a variety of beers on tap that change on the regular along with a full bar. It's not very big but it does have a covered outdoor area that is nice. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area for a drink or even some grub.

It is a little out of the way for your average CBD-explorer, however, if you were a guest at the adjoining Diamant Hotel, you'll find O Bar & Restaurant a welcome treat when weighing up between a funky and well-designed restaurant or room service. My experience was with a take away coffee (Toby's Estate) which was made promptly and unburnt. The staff are super friendly and everyone I noticed coming in was greated with a warm smile. Of course, the beauty of its location is that I'm confident when I return to try the rest of their menu-ed fare I'll be able to find a possie without drama or a fight through crowds.

This outlet has been open for a few weeks now and has proven to be quite a hit with the Nundah locals. It is usually at least half full at any given time. We sat out the front, pulled out our trust chess set and played a few games whilst downing a couple of coffees. The prices are very reasonable, and as far as coffee goes it was good ( as a Melbourne coffee snob, 'good' to me means one of the highest ranked options in Brisbane!) I prefer the decor at the teneriffe store, but this one is light and breezy, which is perfect on a hot day like today. I also like that it is off the main street so it isn't as noisy with traffic. Judging by the apartment blocks going up by the minute Nundah is definitely having a growth spurt - get in why you still can!

I was greeted and shown to a table in the corner, seems to be a recurring theme for me due to fronting up as a lone diner. The ambience of the restaurant was relaxed and casual, there was plenty of room inside and a few tables outside with heating. My table was near the counter so I had a very good view of the kitchen and heard all happening behind the scenes. The chef was positive, though does not hold much of a tune (definitely not the next Australian idol) he was pleasant to his kitchen staff too. Wait staff pleasant and friendly and casual in appearance that complimented the relaxed atmosphere. I ordered a New Zealand Pinot Gris and the mains being a Pork belly with fresh kraut green apple and walnut salad and roast garlic and potatoe purée. I was able to pull the pork apart with my fork and then with just the knife so was quite tender. The crackling was generous and crisp and not greasy and oily like some can be. It had a good flavour and did not need any salt and very little pepper as it was quite flavoursome. The potatoe purée was pleasant though a touch more garlic maybe as I could not taste it and just the potatoe which led it to be a touch bland. The salad was fresh though the apple was overbearing and did not compliment the walnut and the onion over powered a touch as well. Over all it was a pleasant dish that worked well with all the elements together. My mains arrived within 25 min from the time I ordered. For dessert I decided on the Malted chocolate brûlée with coconut and lime biscuit accompanied by a wild berry compote. The brûlée had the crack to the custard skin that was sharp and snapped as it a good brûlée should when tapped gently with your spoon. The custard was velvety and had the right measure of what I believed to be Belgian chocolate. whilst the mousse was rich and the cream perfect. The berry compote was fresh as it should but again overpowered by the apple garnish. The side biscuit that was overdone taking away the taste of coconut and lime which was disappointing as I really wanted to taste that. I also ordered a cappuccino and the Coffee creama was perfect and presentation led you to believe it was going to be amazing cup but that was quite deceptive as it measured up to that of McDonald's cuppa but just a tad better and it lacked in strength, I normally take sugar but this was so weak it did not need any so I had it without. Overall I was quite happy with the entire experience and I would visit again with friends. Though I would like to see a decline in the amount of apple used, maybe there was a special on that week.

I ordered a coffee to have there and it came out promptly. The coffee was good, and the barista undoubtedly skilled, but it wasn't a cup I would write home about as I'd been led to believe. Both the breakfast and lunch menus are simple, but sounds delicious and come at reasonable price for the corporate army who own the city on a weekday. I felt as though the cafe lacked ambience and personality, but I can't say whether that was perhaps because of the time of day I was there (around 2pm). Pourboy is a cool little joint, but it's not somewhere I would spend a few hours with a book. If I was a 9am-5pm girl it might be a different story. If you work or wander around Wharf Street, have a brew at Pourboy Espresso.
