Foxy Bean is one of the more hidden cafes in Woolloongabba. It's on Stanley Street, leaning towards East Brisbane territory, and it often gets missed (even though it's located quite close to the Woolloongabba Antique Centre which is a hub for locals). I like this place because it feels so homely. You get the feeling that the staff are nice to you, not because they have to be, but because they actually think you're alright ey, love. The barista especially, has a particularly dry sense of humour. The barista who made my coffee this morning made a remark like "I put a lot of love into my coffee, so it should taste alright. If it doesn't, go home." I took my coffee outside, and am happy to report, it tasted lovely. The sketchy drawings on the wall are of iconic places near Foxy Bean, like the Story Bridge. It's a cute added touch. (Who hasn't wanted to draw on the walls of their room at one point or another?) While I was there, I didn't hear someone leave without being addressed by their name. "Take care, Phil!". It's obviously a place that draws in regulars, which means it's good enough for people to keep coming back to. One thing for certain is I'll be back, for more of the snappy 'nah, just jokes' service, and that lovely coffee.

Some kinds of coffee are not at all sexy -- International Roast served in chipped enamel mugs by your grandma, for example -- but you'll find only the foxiest Arabica here. The guy who I assume is the owner/barista has funky dreadlocks and the music is tres chic as well, with the latest 'Florence and the Machine' featuring strongly on my last visit. And if that isn't enough to like, they have a nifty little outdoor courtyard. After you order you have to go back through the front door and onto the footpath to access it though, because they don't want you cutting through the staff-only area to get their (fair enough). My poached eggs and toast were expertly cooked and the bread was very good. As for their foxy Genovese coffee, my cappuccino was brilliantly silky and it looked like the chocolate may have been a higher grade than you might find at some other places. But that's pure speculation...

Awesome little hide-away corner out the back!

The last coffee I had there the milk was overcooked and made me feel a bit nauseated. Usually better than this.

Had reminded the staff twice about not receiving my drink. After waiting half an hour and everyone at my table having finished their own drink and food, I noticed my drink sitting at the bar. Waited five minutes and watching a wait staff glance at the receipt and decide to take another drink across the other side of the bar. Having waited long enough, and as a young woman being concerned about my drink sitting there unattended with other patrons standing around it I went and grabbed it. I checked the receipt and confirmed it was mine before taking it. When I sat down, the security guy literally tried to wrestle my drink out of my hand, putting his dirty fingers all around the rim. The bar tender came over and started yelling at me. I told them that the receipt showed it was my drink and I had waited so long for it. They responded that they knew it was my drink - then why are you trying to take it off me? I told them my concern about wait time and they just laughed at me and told me that that's just how things are and that I can't just go and grab my own drink. Utter rubbish I've been to many bars and restaurants in Brisbane and have never received such slow and disrespectful service. We had kids sitting at the table and were there for a birthday. To have two fully grown men stand over me, trying to intimidate and belittle me is just sickening. Complained to management and no apology given. They had the audacity to complain about my partner's tone, despite him being calm and much more respectful than the treatment they were giving us. As to the food, it's just a glorified pub. I recommend going elsewhere such as Massimo or Ola. You will receive quality food and staff who actually appreciate your business.

They were super friendly and let you enjoy the space and your company. They serve you water as soon as you are seated and then ask you what you'd like. I had the Lucy while my friend had the Coffee Ale. The sizes come in Pony, Mare, or Stallion! My friend loved the coffee ale. I'm not the biggest beer fan but the Lucy was light. We started to chit-chat with the bartenders and they showed us this chili vodka! He had me at "Chili..." My friend had the Bloody Mary and she kept raving how it was tomato soup for adults. She loved it! The bartender was great and nervous about creating a drink for me. We went with a pineapple chili vodka with a touch of mint. Yum! It needs some fine tuning but the foundation is set. We were having a great time and as if beer to vodka wasn't enough, we moved right along to tequila! Yes, some quality tequila and verdita. I'm a huge fan and they explained to us how quality tequila is for sipping. We didn't want to leave but the time had come. Thankfully, I know I'll be coming back very soon. Thanks for a great Introduction.

Bit hard to get up on but I loved the table and it was comfortable once I was finally seated properly lol. Service was good but I saw the waitress' friendly face change a bit when I asked to cancel my iced latte and change it to a hot soy latte and my friend asked to have his iced latte changed to iced soy latte. The order hasn't even been fully confirmed yet and the paper wasn't given to the chef so I don't know why it would be a problem. But anyways she put on a smile, said thanks and hurried away. Few minutes later, another girl came to take our food orders and I asked for eggs benedict and if I could have extra hollandaise sauce with it. She said no problem and went off with our orders. Food came about 15 mins later, I liked it. But the poached eggs were undercooked. It was literally leaking water onto the sourdough toast. And another thing, I just think, personally, that there should be two slices of toast if it's thinly sliced. My own preference perhaps? So we finished our meals and had to go settle the bill in person at the counter as they don't print out bills (?). Fair enough but if we want to look at the bill first before going up there to pay and possibly holding up the line if we're looking at the charges more closely, they don't give you that chance. What are we supposed to do if there's a group and with multiple orders? Stand there checking over the bill and have people wait behind us for their turn? Anyways, it turns out the extra hollandaise I asked for in my benedict? Well, they charged me $3 for it. A side blob of hollandaise for $3??! Firstly, the waitress did NOT tell me there was an extra charge and secondly, again with the argument that you have to settle the bill on the spot which doesn't give you much time to look over the charges till after you've paid for it. So, overall, it was a beautiful venue with wonderful views of the water, situated near the story bridge. Food was good. Service was average.
