I love giving great reviews of spots I've been to, but sadly Roasties is only getting three stars…read moretoday. When we looked at the menu for Roasties or mouths were watering as everything sounded amazing. Ribs -chicken - rolls - flavour fries - American sweets and drinks, it all seemed amazing, despite the low-high varying prices, but sadly as most things seem, it was too good to be true. My company and myself ordered the pulled pork, country styled chicken, and the Philly cheese steak roll and New York flavour fries. The first downfall, the meal sizes were rather small, they did not seem plentiful at all as if there was an attempt for the meals to be sophisticated in a restaurant people would go to for greasy delicious food. Sadly the arrangement didn't work. On a positive note the fries came is large portions and we're definitely the standout. The New York fries came covered in Cheese-wiz, sour cream, bacon and shallots, it was amazing and they were delicious. Besides them getting cold rather quickly, they were amazing and I would gladly order them take-away in the future. Sides that came with meals were not tasteful at the slightest unless you had peculiar tastes, and again were in extremely small portions. I feel harsh leaving such comments on a place with such high potential but I can only be honest. Roasties is an American BBQ restaurant with amazing potential and a great looking menu. If portion sizes can be adjusted, prices can suit food quality, and food can be hotter, then Roasties can definitely be an amazing restaurant.

So i grabbed the wife and three boys to go out and see what all the fuss was about... This is a very friendly venue with just a couple of tables indoors (seems like all the cooking equipment is rightly afforded pride of place). Apparently they have the best old school chocolate milkshakes in world according to my three boys, plus an amazing selection of american "soda pop". The american burgers are phenomenal (our favorite was the pulled pork), american style BBQ ribs do not get better than this! Bring your napkins and make sure you wear loose fitting pants! We are planning a second and third trip in order to eat our way around the menu.

We called ahead to book a table, though when we arrived we realised that it was more of a fast food establishment than a restaurant. The waitress was very friendly, she provided us with the menus and explained how we needed to go up to the counter to place the order. She recommended that we try the Pit Master Pack, since we had not eaten there before. This goes for $59.95, and the two cans of soft drink ended up costing a good $7. The Pit Master Pack consisted of ribs, quite a few buffalo wings, hand pulled pork, coleslaw and fries. It is a good serving for two people. I am not the biggest chicken wing fan, though enjoyed them, apart from there being a bit too much sauce. We chose the cheese covered fries, though they weren't that great, we probably should have gone with the plain fries. The food was nice, though far from mind blowing, which made the pricing hard to justify. We left a bit unsatisfied in terms of how full we were, and how much everything cost, even with the voucher. I personally wouldn't visit here again, it is not for me. I would only recommend this establishment to someone who was really into buffalo wings and ribs.

Seriously, the food here is not cheap. BUT - it is bloody good. When our order arrived my eyes drank in the beauty of my pulled beef roll, while hubby rubbed his hands with glee over his chilli hot dog and loaded fries. And the first bite made the pain of the cost fade away- amazing. Well worth it! In fact despite being hungry I I couldn't eat the whole thing as the servings are generous. When this joint first opened there were lines out the door and long waits, but we were one of only three diners at lunchtime today. The cute checked tablecloths and mustard with ketchup on the tables adds to the US of A atmosphere, the only downside to the location on a nice day is being serenaded by the traffic on the main road. Two thumbs up for the food. My wallet is still hurting but at least I'm so full I won't want dinner tonight.

Brooklyn Standard is a very cozy underground bar, themed (as per the name) in a very American way. Having just come back from a 3 week holiday in America, this place just totally appealed to us in just the right way :) It has a very casual feel to the place, and you can easily sit at the bar, or hideaway in a booth. They've got a good selection of beers including our personal favourite American Beer - Blue Moon. Some on tap, some in bottles. They've also got a very interesting selection of cocktails, one that even includes root beer, which is absolutely delicious! To make things even better, they have live music every night from about 7.30pm, and serve free pretzels. Beers are about $8.50, cocktails range from $14-$16. Note though, and this has also been mentioned in other reviews - those pretzels are the only food that you will find here. This is purely a drinks and cocktails bar. Still, I rate this 5 out of 5, and will definitely be back.

Brooklyn Standard is classier than Coyote Ugly but not the type of place to have an exclusive guest list, this "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" venue gives the CBD a cool and classic bar to enjoy a few brews (or cocktails) with a live band playing. It's frills and whistles are few but, you know, when you're the cool kid you just are. You don't need to do a song and dance about it. And that's Brooklyn Standard. It was a grand spot to catch up with a girlfriend and we enjoyed table service. There is no food menu - it's a bar in the truest sense and the most you'll get to devour is a bowl of tasty pretzels. Between her beers, my one cocktail and a cider we left satisfied and surprisingly not a lot poorer. The prices are reasonable and not about to skin your purse alive. The underground cavern is cosy and there's table & chair dining or booths for the more romantic gestures. Of course, it's early days but I can't wait to return. It's the friend you don't have to pretend around - you can just be yourself.

Unexpectedly in the vacinity, I directed a detour stopping here for a late lunch-slash-early dinner. No regrets. Never again will I slum it through the drive thru of a golden arch for a cheeseburger fix. This was the real deal - there was even coleslaw on this puppy. The bun was toasted to a crisp perfection, the right balance of ketchup to mustard and a meat patty that had some oomph to it. The shop itself reminds me of a fish and chip shop my family would visit growing up. That's to say its basic, no frills. It doesn't need it. Plus the food is without pomp and it all works to create a very distinct charm. Not a subway tile, wooden chair or metal light shade in sight! For less than $20 we got 2 burgers. Carolina Kitchen is a family business owned by an expat from South Carolina, Mike Perry, located on a quiet suburban street in Coopooroo. Already there is a massive following on their Facebook group, with regulars and new comers singing their praises for the Buffalo Wings and BBQ Ribs. Both times I've been for a Saturday lunch, we've booked to save us a table. The place fills up quickly, so if you have more than 2 people, I would definitely suggest booking ahead of time. The BBQ ribs are so juicy and covered in sauce, and the Buffalo wings pack a punch with the original spicy sauce. Dip the wings in the blue cheese dipping sauce to cool your mouth. They have a wide variety of different flavoured Coke, Dr Pepper and Fanta - flavours you don't usually get in Australia. Cherry Dr Pepper tastes like sugary baby Panadol, but I love it! For a serious feed you can either go with one of the Hoagies - a sandwich on a long, Sub roll - or a burger "All The Way". That means everything including onions. There's cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and hamburgers, as well as Hot Dogs. Unfortunately, during my last visit they didn't have any Pie for sale, but quite often they will be selling a Pumpkin, Cherry or Pecan pie by the slice. I did manage to place an order for a Pumpkin pie to take home for Christmas. $30 for a whole sweet pie - traditional American style Pumpkin pie!

The decor is very similar to their locations in the States. I ordered the chicken blt and strawberry shake while my partner ordered a smokehouse butger and bacon cheese tots. The food came out pretty quickly and the service was fantastic throughout the whole meal. The reason it lost a star is because my chicken blt (which is similar to the chicken club in the States) did not taste the same unfortunately. The bread was different, the mayo had a weird taste to it, and the bacon was more like ham than american bacon. However the shake was exactly the same and I still think the sandwich was good but not the same Johnny Rockets quality as back home. My partner enjoyed his meal and said it made him crave American Johnny Rockets even more!

Burger was acceptable, perhaps a little wet with the special sauce, but with competitors such as Burger Project & other juicy offerings in the Valley, not really up to scratch. Chilli fries just ok again - maybe a couple of tablespoons of chilli mince, with onion and melted grated cheese, etc. How about a generous ladle of a properly made chilli mix with beans, etc. over the fries? Why don't some of these franchise starters take a quick trip to LA to see what American food has to offer? I know food costs are higher here, but it still doesn't cut it. Burger, chilli fries and a small coke was $29. Too much. I expected a lot, but this very pedestrian offering will probably be a once only for me. Again, nothing wrong, but there is just so much better out there.
