So many people recommended this spot on a video I made and finally made the trip to try it out! The past few months in MN have been difficult regarding and glad to see this business is on the right side of things. Easy street parking and it wasn't a busy morning. I was greeted when I walked in. Plenty of seating once you go further back. I don't remember what I got but it was really good! I got it with oat milk. We stopped here early in the morning. Vibe was fun and electric with the historical charm of an old building. The two barista's that were slinging coffee were great, friendly, approachable, and answered our questions before deciding on a miel latte. Now, I must say I went for the smaller size, half or less of flavor, and made it a quad! I said how I liked more coffee with a smidge of flavor, a good barista knows what that means and they nailed it! We also grabbed an Americano as a quad but went for the bigger size. As a strong, super strong coffee preference folk, I personally just wish that there drinks had more espresso shots instead of having to add extra, but again that's just our preference. read more

I was visiting the area and found it in yelp. Glad I did. I love local coffee shops and they're is nothing mainstream about this place. I saw people of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes - all enjoying tasty drinks and friendly company. I ordered my typical high maintenance drink (iced decaf mocha with an extra shot and oat milk) and they made it promptly and correctly. The vibe in the place was welcoming and comfortable... and definitely a bit eclectic. Only 4 out of 5 stars - because the plastic lid didn't fit very well on my cup so it spilled in my arm whenever coffee sloshed in the cup. I was walking, so that happened several times until I drank the top portion of the drink. Better fitting lids would earn a 5th star. I will definitely be back. read more

I have been to the Coffee Hag many times over the years and every time I can count on friendly baristas that are always super accommodating and willing to explain the newest drinks to me and help me choose a drink they think I would enjoy. The atmosphere of the Coffee Hag is welcoming, calm, safe, and warm. It's a place to admire and, if you're lucky to be able to, purchase beautiful artwork made by artists in the local area. Last I was there, they were also selling their coffee beans and some Coffee Hag merchandise but I'm not sure if they still have Coffee Hag apparel so no promises on that one! The service is always with a smile and open/flexing to it's clientele. I wish it was three times as big as it is!! I'm convinced it would be just as full and busy!! Coffee hag was a hilarious stop. My brother lives in the area and told me he had never been here because he could not find it. It is hard to find. I was lucky that the ghost sign of the photography studio caught my eye and I spotted it. It was a shivering cold day in Mankato and we wanted so local coffee and pastry. We walked in and it was hipster-ific. The girl working obviously hated the new guy on the register. I got the bees knees and my husband got an Americano. I also tried the rhubarb muffin. We sat down and our drinks didn't come out for a long time. We were not bothered because it was freezing and we were killing time but the other regulars were pissed. It was all that new guys fault. When our drinks did come my husbands was on ice. LOL! It was hilarious considering how cold it was outside. We didn't complain. It was still good. The decor in here is really cool. Cute. Some food items, but not an extensive food menu. How is there to support a friend who performed her poetry. Saturday night, they have open Mic nights. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting and cozy. I truly enjoyed myself. I only took a few sips of my husband's drink. It was pretty good as well. A long time favorite local coffee shop. Have been going for many years. LQBTQA safe space and gay female owned. Welcoming to everyone and a place that feels like home. Friendly staff. Delicious baked goods. The food and some of the coffee drinks are not as consistent and as good as they used to be, but still better than a lot of coffee shops. We loved it so much we went back the next day before leaving town. The tea and coffee drinks were delicious. I had the olive and smoked Gouda quiche one day and the carmelized onion quiche the next day. The pie crust was perfect and the fillings were light and fluffy. Great espresso, really cool building, really neat art and decor. Stopped in for a double espresso and a cup of black coffee-a Nicaraguan bean today. Espresso was fantastic, really well done. The coffee(which I didn't drink until 10-15 miles down the road in my car) was actually not the black I'd ordered, but their daily flavor-I got coconut and lavender/soap. Too much for me so I poured it, now I can't get it out of my travel coffee mug-so the next coffee I had also tasted like that. Great place, only demerit would be serving me something I didn't order and really did not want. I'll likely stop again, and hopefully get a regular black coffee. read more

This little shop is the closest non-chain coffee shop to where my grandmother lives in North Mankato. I stumbled upon it quite by accident when out with her one weekend and what a happy surprise that turned out to be. Having traveled to Mankato several times a year for the entirety of my life, I never felt the city had places with that cool factor I was looking for... until the Coffee Hag. What can I say? I love a good hipster coffee shop. I've been here several times for my coffee fix now. Usually I'm going for something classic - an americano, iced latte, etc. I'm not one for sweet beverages, so haven't tried the bee's knees or some of the other specialty things others have mentioned. The drinks come out quickly and have always been made to my satisfaction, but I've usually been the only person at the counter during an off time of day. Their baked goods case makes my mouth water and I finally split an amazing chocolate cookie the last time I was in. Overall, I really like their focus on organic and fair trade goods, and keeping the history of the building/neighborhood in tact with the decor. I'd definitely be a regular if I lived here - the Hag would be a cute place to sit at one of the front window tables during a snowy Minnesota day (plenty of those!) with a hot cup of coffee and a book. read more

Coffee Hag was a great coffee shop on a cold morning. I stopped in for a short break from the holiday madness. I ordered an Americano, a slice of delicious cheesecake, and a miel to go for my wife. The Americano was pretty tasty. They served it in a pint glass, which I guess looked cool, but wasn't the best for drinking. The glass was too hot and the cardboard heat shield thing didn't fit too well. As previously mentioned, the cheesecake was delicious. The space was a pretty cozy, I sat at a tall table by front window and watched the cars go by in the snow as a I read a book and sipped on my coffee. It had a very relaxed, laid back, and authentic atmosphere, which was just what I needed that day. When I was ready to go they made the miel and I was on my way. My wife said it was one of the best miels she's ever had. It was pretty good for my limited and unrefined pallet too. read more

Was disappointed to see soup of the day on the sign but when asked what soup today, they didn't have soup. I LOVE The Hag! I have been a dedicated patron since it's advent thirty years ago when I came to Mankato as a young lawyer. Since then, I raised two beautiful daughters who are now some of The Hag's greatest fans! The Hag is always a colorful, welcoming and warm place to spend your precious time! I have visited The Hag for live music, a nice lunch, delicious coffee only and many emotional private conversations...The Hag offers a safe and comfortable place for anything. I have now just recently retired and will be enjoying part-time fun at the River City Quilt Shoppe just down the street in Old Town Mankato. I love this coffee shop and stop whenever I am in Mankato. I don't know if you can find friendlier staff anywhere! The only reason they are getting 4 stars is because I want more of a meal menu! We loved the breakfast burrito, coffee, and carrot/sweet potato/ginger soup, but when the soup is gone, it's gone, and other than those items you are left with what is in the deli case. The atmosphere itself is lovely, with brick walls, lots of art, and (my favorite) real dishes and the ability to compost your leftovers--of which we had none! Keep giving me more Coffee Hag! read more
