The spelt baguette was the best--crunchy outside, soft inside very flavorful (unlike spelt products I've had in the States). Le Perron on Middenweg has been my morning go to spot while in Amsterdam. Fyi...this bakery cafe far exceeds Le Pain Quotidien and shames Le Madeleine versions that exist in the States.

I later had a "rice slice", which is a rice krispie treat which has been defiled with raisins and orange pieces. In my book that is blasphemous, because it disturbs the homeostatic enjoyment of a solid layer of rice krispies, butter and marshmallow. But I guess that is the style around here. They offer free babyccinos (soy milk, flavored syrup and foamed milk on top), so I ordered one for my daughter to go along with my cappuccino. It was very cute, but my daughter did not like it at all. Oh well, at least it was free. My cappuccino was good, but I was surprised it didn't come with a packet of sugar or a cookie or a piece of chocolate or anything. I later had a large mokka, and that had a pleasant amount of sweetness, with real chocolate chunks swimming around at the bottom. Overall I would come back here again for a gezellig snack or coffee. The music was good, the staff didn't care if you stayed or went, or if your 2 year old dances around, and the food and drinks are good.
