It is located in Edgeware, which I frequent a few times a year since I have a friend who lives there. However it was not until I googled: "best salt beef in London" that I knew that there is a hidden gem to be found here. To me, salt beef is the UK variant of pastrami minus the peppercorns on the outside. I love both but I've had bad versions of both. So when I learned that this is the best salt beef in London, I got excited. I came and found a little shop with a few tables to dine in and options to take away. The menu was your typical jewish fare: salt beef, salads, gefilte fish, dumplings and so on. I went for the salt beef on rye with mustard: simple but I took one bite and I was sold. I immediately regretted not knowing about this place earlier - this is sandwich heaven. Perfect beef, great bread and a little bit of mustard: delicious! You know you have yourself a winner when you find yourself craving more, even days after. Yes B&K Salt Beef Bar is far off everything and scores about minus ten on the ambiance scale. There must be much trendier and hipper places in Central London but do they also serve a AWESOME salted beef sandwich? I am not sure so until I know I'll stick with B&K. Highly recommended.

Seriously, the salt beef is to die for and is very reasonably priced. It's only got a small seating area for about 20 people but you can also get take away. The staff are very friendly and it has a great atmosphere. Parking can be a little difficult as there are only a few bays on Whitchurch Lane and it's near to the traffic lights at a major junction in Edgware so you may have to park a distance away but the food it worth it! I would point out that the food is Kosher style - the meat isn't actually kosher but, if that doesn't bother you - you'll enjoy a great meal.

Yes they do stock the Observer to read with your vegan breakfast. But you may have to fight someone called Crispin for the Review section. And that's before you've been forced to shoulder charge his civil partner Jem for a space at a table. I am very cynical. The weekend crowds do not lie. I will admit that Mess has successfully positioned itself a notch above your average 'egg and chips' van in the comptetive greasy Hackney hangover market. Its just that that notch doesn't seem significantly large enought to warrant queuing for 15 minutes to eat the same old muck. But that'sjust my opinion, and stuff....

Molen's is definitely the first (the posh cafe, should you be interested, is the Front Room). I'm not sure Molen's is quite a greasy spoon in the traditional sense, because they also do some dinner options, deli sandwiches, Sunday lunches etc, but the breakfasts definitely have that greasy spoon feel: un-reconstructed good British breakfast. The service is friendly and swift - I always wonder if it's a sign of good service or a sign of my penchant for bacon that means that they recognize my friends and I when we go in. There's a dazzling array of set combinations. A quick hint: if you want to build your own, it's usually cheaper to find the closest set and then sub in and out individual items - my particular preference is usually the Set 6 but to sub in black pudding for the sausage (the sausage being the only thing on the menu that's a bit of a disappointment) and then an extra side of Bubble. Yes, I realise this means that I am eating chips, bubble and toast in one meal, but the bubble & squeak here is perfect, and usually the highlight of the plate. So, don't expect anything that is going forever to change your perception of breakfast, do expect a massive plate of tasty food that will fill you up and banish all hangover woes. Now, if only I could sub in a Bloody Mary for that tea...

Second: a couple of baristas here at this particular brand are rather snobbish and unfriendly...to the point of almost being rude. Third: they seem to hate people who want to use their café as a mobile office; they don't provide outlets - or - they don't allow you to use the existing outlet. I get it, you don't want people to occupy your tables for hours without consuming anything, but there's ways to compromise, aren't there? Don't they get that us mobile workers are the future?! However, there is still one thing about Euphorium bakeries that is worth pointing out and which is the reason why I still come here: their bread. In fact, their Scandinavian bread as well as their 100% rye bread are the best bread I've come across in London so far...only these days I don't combine my visit with a cup of coffee anymore as I neither feel welcome nor comfortable here.

They were giving out free samples of blueberry clafoutis, which I can only describe as these baked custardy fruit things. I am not going to lie. I totally snuck my little hand in the basket for an second sample. In the end the boyfriend got a mushroom egg savoury brioche and I got an almond croissant. We ate at the park across the street and the almond croissant was one of the messiest things I've eaten in awhile. Powdered sugar and crumbs everywhere, and as you can imagine the pigeons were just as happy as we were.
