It is a beautiful venue with an Italian garden for the ceremony and a simple carriage house for the reception.

    Saltbox Farm

    Saltbox Farm

Saltbox catered our wedding in rural Vermont a few weeks ago, and my husband and I (as well as our…read moreguests) couldn't be happier! My husband and I are both vegetarian and good food obsessed, so when we first started planning our wedding, we knew good food was a top priority. It was important to us to have a vegetarian wedding that was delicious and vegetable-focused (and not just boring pastas or tofu steaks). We also knew that lots of our guests were meat-eaters and we wanted to make sure everyone walked away excited about the food. Well, Saltbox completely pulled it off. They worked patiently with us at every step. We gave them the adjective "Ottolenghi-esque" at the beginning and a few other notes about our taste, and they ran with it from there, delivering a draft menu that was amazing and then revising it according to our feedback. Throughout, they were easy to work with and extremely professional, and they pulled off of the details on the day beautifully, with everyone leaving happily stuffed and thrilled. (They even accommodated our gluten-free and dairy-free guests with delicious alternatives.) The waitstaff was also fantastic and helped ensure that my husband and I got enough to eat amidst all the busy-ness and dancing. Now, just a few weeks later, we are constantly hearing from friends and family about how great the food was (the best they've ever had by some accounts), asking for Saltbox's name, and remarking about how they completely forgot that they were eating vegetarian for the night because every dish was so delicious. I have been to lots of weddings and frankly, most of the food is not memorable. Saltbox's food absolutely was.

Acton Woman's Club - Brunch spread

This past Sunday I hosted a baby shower at Acton Woman's Club for my sister. It was great! We felt…read moreit was so much better than a restaurant or VFW. It just felt more intimate and thoughtful. You can either rent just the downstairs area (up to 35 people I think), or you can rent out the entire house (up to 75 people). We rented out the whole house: the downstairs which had a living room area, dining area, full kitchen, and bathroom. And upstairs, which was a big open room that we used for the main hosting. There is also an elevator lift accessible. One of the nicer things about this place is that there is an additional staircase going from the kitchen right up to the main room upstairs (butler's staircase), so it was super easy to bring food up that way without getting into anyone's way. We set up the food tables right along the wall to that entrance. The building is old and charming with furniture pieces and lighting to match the age of the house. It's very well kept and cared for. We had about 45 guests and just about everyone commented on how nice the place was! I think my family will definitely be keeping this place in mind for future events. The woman who was in charge was so nice and kept in contact with us very well via email throughout our booking time with any questions we had. I absolutely recommend Acton Woman's Club for any parties or events you may have!

It was very impressive how many people commented, as they arrived, on how wonderful the setting was -- "How did you find this place?" It has a lot of charm and a bit of quirkiness thrown in for flavor. Reasonably priced, conveniently located, and managed by members of the Club who were readily accessible and accommodating. We had a great night and much of the mood was provided by the ambiance of the AWC. Wholeheartedly recommend choosing this location for gatherings!

    Cary Hall - Side balconies

Had a fun experience at Cary Hall seeing American Idol legends Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard…read more I had no idea that this venue with so much history was right in my backyard. It was built in the 1920s, and the character still oozes from the building. They've made some renovations, but have kept it mostly original which I appreciate. The actual chairs are still everywhere expect for the orchestra seating, and they are sooo comfy. Trivia question: The seats have a wire rack underneath, what was it used for back in the day? Shout out to one of the ushers for this fun question. (I won't spoil the answer). Now, because it is historic, there are some things it doesn't have. One being no screens like at most concert venues. This wasn't too big a deal since the hall is not huge, but something to point out. Also can't bring food or drink inside the space to protect its historic value, which didn't bother me to be honest. This hall is also nice because due to the size, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The side balconies aren't head on with the stage but it didn't seem to be an issue. I sat in the loge and for being furthest away, I had a clear view. They also had a cash bar in the foyer with drinks and snacks. I liked this venue because it was a quaint space, and it felt like I was going to a live theater, rather than a huge concert. It's classy and makes for a fun night out. I would love to come back and see the Lexington Symphony play here.

It was very invasive sitting next to a stranger and our legs and arms were rubbing up against each other. Luckily my seat mate was nice, but not what I would expect of front row seating. With the help of the small staff that runs the non-profit that cares for and rents out the building, we could not have asked for a more perfect place to host our guests and celebrate. The building itself used to be a barn, and was made into a building for scouts early in the 20th century. As such, it is gorgeous inside: the support beams and trusses are exposed, and they keep the floor in stunning condition for the dancers who rent the building several times a week. Along the sides of the building, the two-story windows cast a perfect light in the room. As a venue for our reception, we were comfortably snug at about 110 guests. The tables and chairs for that many fit fine, but leaving room for a dance floor, a bar, and a buffet was a challenge. It would be a gorgeous venue for a wedding ceremony, but we couldn't fit both wedding and reception with that many people. With 50 or 60 guests, it would have done perfectly. They have enough chairs and tables for all of our guests, as well as a stage you can use. The administrator, Lois, was very easy to work with. She communicated with me clearly and gave us good suggestions on how to best utilize the space. The two staff members who cleaned before and after the party were very helpful as well. We were very pleased with the whole experience, and our guests raved about how great the venue was. We would absolutely book another event here.
