Mifanwy is an accomplished and passionate individual. She was a teacher for many years, and is currently a poetry teacher at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. Tebot Bach hosts a monthly poetry reading at Golden West College, and I've met many neat poets and writers through it. There are some regulars who recite their poems for the open reading time (which is towards the end), and I remember several fabulous poems by another fellow volunteer and guest poets. During the poetry readings, you would've found me in the back of the room, in charge of selling TBach and guest poet's books. After going back to grad school I have stopped volunteering, but will always think fondly of the times I've spent there. Spread the Word!

Cat & Jazz have great customer service. Their communication was great whether it be by phone or…read moretext. They were able to coordinate a last minute surf lesson after another company flaked on us the morning of our lesson. My 11 year old granddaughter's lesson was with Aaron, who graciously showed up with a wetsuit, a board and a great attitude. All with barely any notice. She opted not to wear a wetsuit, but hey she's a polynesian girl and loves cold water. He explained safety, body positioning on the board, foot positioning, paddle and pop up. Actually he gave more instructions than I listed. She understood well, so this part of the lesson was pretty quick. They walked looking for a spot. Aaron explained the different types of waves pointing them out to her as they appeared. He picked a spot that was empty and showed her how to put the board in the water, which may sound silly but it is important. She paddled out, ducked and dived, turned, popped up and rode in on her first try. They stayed out for quite a while talking in between. Sometimes she wiped out and sometimes she looked like she'd been surfing since birth. After about an hour and half she needed a break and suggested he go out so she could watch. As impressive as he was, she KTFO!!!! LOL! Just a quick little nap after waking up early and all of her hard work in that cold water. When she got up they went out again. This time she needed very little assistance. It was great!!!! Now we can surf together. All in all I'm glad the other surf school I booked with flaked on us. This was a great experience all around. I'm planning on getting a lesson set up for one of my grandbaby's friends soon. The more the merrier right? I totally recommend the Sal Y Sol surf school for a great experience!

Patricia is a brilliant Renaissance woman. She is what you get when you mix technical excellence…read moreand style with humility, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to the craft. She is simply the best! I feel incredibly lucky to have met Patricia and begun my singing journey with her. I've been a student at Studio Shanks since 2018, when I was fresh out of college and looking for a voice teacher who could earnestly teach me how to sing. At the time, there were flashy online ads for folks that could "make you a superstar" and all of it felt so loud and nothing seemed to fit. At one point Patricia returned my call. Immediately I knew that she was the right teacher for me. It was obvious that she is not just naturally fun and easygoing, but also a true technician when it comes to the craft of singing. It's been a few years since we began working together. I've discovered that singing is something that can be learned at any age. It requires hard work, but it can be done. Luckily, Patricia is entirely dedicated to the growth and success of her students. Knowing this makes it much easier to bring my own effort during and between classes. I am honestly amazed at how, despite having worked with many respected luminaries in the field, Patricia remains humble and always with a sense of humor that puts me at ease. She is everything that comprises a professional artist and educator. What I love most is that she cuts through the noise and focuses on pure foundations. That means that she is able to work with vocalists ranging from the most contemporary pop styles to opera to musical theatre and beyond. All kinds of singing require the same basic knowledge of healthy and safe vocal techniques. At Studio Shanks, everything counts and everything matters. Thank you so much, Patricia!

Thank you very much for communicating. I would love to take singing lessons with you.read more

It was a quick 2 hr limit and it was perfect because after you would be able to sit outside with everyone else if you wanted to stay longer. The place is very clean and the restrooms were spotless as well. The area to play around was very small but entertaining for the kids! They did have a snack area and were kept stocked with lots of chips, drinks, coffee and some candy. They did provide you with socks which I loved!

Arrival and check in was easy, but it did get a little crowded with multiple parties checking in at the same time. You leave your shoes in the front and are provided with grippy socks. The facility is clean, and you can see the thoughtfulness throughout. They had shoes for people to wear for the bathroom. The bathroom sinks had stools for the little ones. Even the side entrance by the party rooms had shoes available! My LO is 2 1/2, and I thought this place was perfect for her age. I can see kids aging out around 8-10, depending on size. She had so much fun. There was a private event and we definitely stayed until we had to leave. 10/10 would come again! Looking forward to the next time we go.
