I was really looking forward to this place because I LOVE coconut but the experience was underwhelming. Not only was everything overpriced but the portions did not make up for it. They should at least be more generous with portions for charging top dollar, especially the shave ice and cold brew. The shave ice was not packed properly so it had air pockets. The portion was a small kid size for $8. If you do a blind taste test with coconut shave ice made vs water shave ice, you won't taste the difference. The "gelato" was not a proper gelato. It was icy and hard. Gelato is supposed to be smooth and stretchy. They used the word "gelato" for marketing as an excuse to overcharge people. The coconut cold brew was an outrageous $15 for a small cup. For that much money you'd expect the worlds best coffee. It tasted tart from the coconut water and hardly had any coffee flavor. What a gimmick! Save your money! I suggest going to Ululani's Shaved Ice or Bling's Bing Maui (Kihei) for a better value and quality shave ice. For coke brew, visit a legit cafe for that won't cost you double digits. Go to an actual gelato spot that specializes in REAL gelato. Great concept (and service) but poor execution. I rarely write poor reviews for small businesses but this place is a true rip off.
This was such a cool find and thanks to our tour guide (on Road to Hana) for the intel. If you like sno cones or shaved iced, this is a special offering, ice made from coconut. That said, before this trip, I was not a fan of coconut water, coconut candy or some other coconut items (however I love pina coladas) and fell in love with the flavor because it really is different and coconuts on the island are tastier. Here's my rating of the items I tried: Shaved ice - pineapple flavor 5/5 Shaved ice w/ gelato special - 5/5 Slushie - 4/5 (mango) Coconut water float -5/5 Coco-macadamia nut candy - 5/5
I wish I could give it 10 stars! We went there every day even on the day we left cutting close to our flight timings! Big applause to the adventurous flavor combinations with creamy coconut base gelato. One absolutely needs to stop by here to enjoy coconut water. They have max 3 days old coconuts but you are guaranteed with sweet water. And the taste is very close to home! Unlike the ones we get here on mainland. Two favorite flavors in gelato- Jabuticaba - big bold flavor with perfect grape smoothie color and coconut base. The best - coconut gelato. It's a perfect opposite to the above one but delish Coconut with jelly like meat- tend to be sweeter and that meat it not too heavy Coconuts with thicker meat- water is less sweet but perfect if you have skipped breakfast and one fruit would fill you up! They tend to move their parking spot depending upon space but found them on a bend right after kapulua where you will see lots of other cars parked. This is my #1 recommended place in must visit places in Maui
I love coconuts!!! So I was super excited when I found this on Yelp before my trip to Maui. I had the shaved ice special with guava and lilikoi flavoring plus the coconut gelato. All of it was refreshing and the gelato was amazing! The woman who helped me was so nice and friendly!! You would expect all workers would be just as nice on the island, but nope lol! She was one of the few I experienced on the island who even smiled when taking your order. I wish I was able to make another visit before my leave. Highly recommend! Fun fact: the owner actually climbs and collects all the coconuts to bring to the cart. So support the locals as much as you can!!

Everything is handmade, organic and delicious! We got the coconut shaved ice, which was made from coconut juice, it was soooo good! I highly recommend this place. It's located in Maui Outlet Mall parking lot, you can shop and get dessert!
If you want to try some amazing coconut shaved ice then def stop by at this truck. They have amazing variety of coconut in form of shaved ice , coconut gelato, coconut Slushie etc. We tried coconut flavored shaved ice and it was so good. They even add flavor in case you feel less after finishing half of your dish. I wish they had some place to sit also but they don't. Also, if you want to try some natural coconut then they have that too. We didn't try that but many were ordering and seem to enjoy it...!!
This coconut caboose is in the perfect area near the beach and also near restaurants and shops. I recommend getting the fresh coconuts here. You can drink them, and then they'll cut the meat out for you. It's super enjoyable and the guy working there is so friendly! Amazing service. The coconut Gelato is also fantastic.
Adorable little food truck along the North side drive coming back from Honolua Bay - definitely save your appetite for this creamy yummy coconut water shaved ice treat. It's certainly refreshing and amazing to see them prepare the shave ice. The service was very friendly and very informative of the menu and ingredients being used. They gave some samples as well to try. I had the shaved coconut ice and coconut gelato special w/ some lychee syrup drizzle. On a hot summery afternoon this was great. I would certainly recommend to anyone to stop by.
Hands down one of the best things we ate, second only to poke, while vacationing in Maui. We went all in by ordering coconut gelato with coconut ice and coconut syrup. No regrets because IT WAS DIVINE! My only complaint would be that the ice cream was too hard to be considered gelato, but I'm guessing that's because it's vegan. I only wish they had more locations so that we could've visited one last time before leaving the island!
Decided to take a scenic drive to see the blowhole and spotted the Coconut Caboose on the side of the road in a small parking area. An amazing array of coconut delicacies (shave ice, ice cream, smoothie and more!) but we just had to have the straight ice cold coconut water followed by the tender flesh. Very friendly staff! Go check them out!
We stopped here on the way back from Nakalele Blowhole. Our oldest, 7, loves fresh coconut and our youngest, 5, loves shave ice so this spot was a win-win. We really enjoyed the Coconut gelato, some shave ice and a fresh coconut which was a great treat after all the hiking. The guy running the stand was very nice. It was cool watching him open the coconut with the machete. After we drank the coconut water he carved out the fresh coconut and bagged it for us. I highly recommend making a stop and enjoying the experience.
Amazing! Maui must have! This shave ice is like no other. 100% organic and vegan. Their shaved ice with coconut gelato in the bottom is amazing! They also have cold whole coconuts that we all love. For a caffeine pick me up the have a delicious coconut cold brew. Everything is amazing and the owners are awesome, good people. As an added bonus the view to enjoy your treats is one of the best.
Came back here for a second time in 3 days. The coconut gelato was the best! I had the lilikoi (passionfruit) flavor the first time I was there and tried the coconut flavor my friend got. That's when I knew I had to come back for the coconut flavored one. Tip: get a fresh cut coconut (ask for a younger one so the meat is softer), then eat the coconut gelato with the coconut meat. You'll have to finish drinking the coconut water first then ask Jeremy to cut open the coconut for you! read more

Sooo goood! Just a little hard to find. The maps kept sending us on the opposite side of the actual location. It wasn't a truck like I was expecting but actually like a little garage/storage area. Fortunately they have a ton of parking available. Regardless, this was one of our favorite finds on our trip to Maui. My man was craving shaved ice and said hands down this was the best shaved ice he's ever had and didn't even realize it was COCONUT shaved ice. I decided to get the ice cream and drink straight out the coconut & it didn't disappoint. Like others mentioned, the ice cream was a little difficult to eat because it was straight up frozen & wasn't creamy like your typical scoop of ice cream but the flavor was on point especially if you love Hawaiian Haupia like I do. Luckily for us we got to enjoy our coconut fix while tanning outside the storefront because they only had two seats available. I also appreciated that you could go back in after you finish drinking the coconut water to cut up the coconut to eat the inside too! read more
We happily stumbled across the coconut caboose truck and pulled over. It was the last day of our trip to Maui and fresh coconut was just the thing that was missing. They were so friendly, giving us samples of just about everything, making the decision hard. I ended up ordering the coconut ice cream, which I do have to say was better as a small sample than as a whole cup that had been frozen and was a bit dense and hard to eat. I kind of wish I had gotten the coconut shaved ice. I steered away from it since we had already had shaved ice, but we hadn't had COCONUT shaved ice. My mistake. Next time. My bf had the fresh coconut which is a must get. After you finish drinking the water they cut it up for it so you can eat the meat. Yum. read more

What a cute idea- everything they sell is made with coconut water including the shaved ice gelato and popsicles. It's a bit pricey- I paid over $12 for a gelato with the shaved ice on it. It's so delicious and worth every penny. We sampled the cinnamon coconut gelato and vanilla gelato which was all yummy as well. The vendors running the truck are friendly and fun too! read more

After our Road To Hana drive, my friend and I stopped by here and got some fresh Maui coconuts. They chop it up right in front of you! After finishing our coconuts juice, we asked if we could have the coconut meat be carved out, and the employees were more than happy to assist! I thought the coconuts were reasonably priced, and I wished I had tried the coconut shave ice and the coconut gelato that everyone is raving about on Yelp. This place is like a little oasis up by the beach spots along the road. Refreshing treats to cool you off whether coming or going from the beach or just out for a drive. Coconut water straight from the coconut or choose from shaved ice or raw coconut meat gelato or better yet- both! And no dairy for those who have had to give up gelato. I had the piña colada combo ice and gelato, and my hubs had 1/2 orange 1/2 mango shaved ice over coconut gelato. Both were a definite thumbs up! Highly recommend! And the view isn't bad either. On our way back on our drive from the blowhole we stopped by Coconut Caboose for a quick cold treat. My husband and I tried the shaved ice and the original coconut gelato. The shaved ice was made of coconut water but I didn't really taste much difference from regular shaved ice and the syrups were a bit too sweet. The coconut gelato is made of one whole coconuts milk. The gelato was quite frozen hard when we received it and in a very very tiny cup. Overall I didn't really find it worth the price or stop. There are better options waiting it out back in the Lahaina. read more

It is more of a 3 1/2 star but because there is such a sense of aloha, I had to bump them up to 4 as friendly customer service can make or break a place. We went for their coconut ice cream made from the more mature coconuts and it was rich and good, but not quite worth the $7 for the size you get, although I do understand it takes 1-2 coconuts in each small cup. The texture and taste was very reminiscent of the cashew creamery we have in the Bay Area so there wasn't anything that really wowed me enough for the $7 per person price tag and to make a trip specifically here for it. I do love their aloha spirit and to support them again. For $7 next time, I rather go for the fresh coconut where they keep cold in a cooler so after you drink the water, they will efficiently crack, scoop, and serve you your coconut meat bowl in a matter of minutes. read more

We thought we were just going for some run of the mill shaved ice, but were pleasantly surprised when we got here! It's all homemade, organic, and coconut based. They have this amazing gelato that is made from spun coconuts that is ridiculous. If you're in the mood for something amazing, get in the car now and don't stop until you get here! read more
While visiting the geyser we stopped by this truck. We bought a coconut cream iced coffee and a raw coconut. The coconut was cut in front of us with a machete, wow! Everything tasted really delicious. Great stop on our adventure! read more

SO MUCH YES!!! The world (and especially Hawaii), needs more places like this and needs more restauranteurs like Jeremy, owner and founder of Coconut Caboose. My fiance and I live on Oahu and took a three-day weekend to Maui this past weekend and stumbled upon Honolua Bay. We parked momentarily at the overlook to check it out, and heard Jeremy talk to a customer about his products, and he had us at "raw coconut water" and "all-natural, local, organic, from the earth." We are very conscious eaters and are huge supporters of local, organic and sustainable, and Jeremy and his products are 100% in line with this. We had the pleasure of talking story with Jeremy for a little while; he sat down with us, barefoot, shirtless and happy as all food truck owners should be! We learned that his shave ice is made from raw coconut water and sugar cane juice that he presses himself. He goes through 4,500 coconuts per week and plants coconut trees wherever he can. Every single practice he has in his business is sustainable and non-wasteful. His spoons are made of sugar cane, not plastic, and all take away products are compostable. Okay, so now let's talk about the flavor....vegan cinnamon coconut gelato?! Ummm yes, feed me that every day for the rest of my life, please. A cup of gelato is $7 - yes, it's pricey, but when you think about how much love and physical labor goes into making these delicious good-for-you desserts, I would happily support that any day. Honestly, Jeremy and Coconut Caboose were the highlights of our trip. We're foodies and thrive in travel moments like these where we connect with the local people who are directly working with the land to bring us food that won't kill us, give us diabetes or cancer. Jeremy, good on you for running such an incredible business! We're already telling everybody to visit your truck and can't wait for you to come to Oahu if it's in the near future!!
