We decided to walk off a meal by exploring the little shops across the street from our resort. Our stops included this little shop. There were lots of Hawaiian souvenirs: artwork, trinkets, tags, ornaments, picture frames and other inexpensive items to bring home as giveaways. Ok it's the Holiday Season so we were able to pick up inexpensive gifts to give. Including a Spam Musubi ornament for a spam loving friend. Ok we picked up a few things for ourselves. Reasonable pricing and a good assortment of inventory made it a winning stop.

They don't just sell shoes and slippahs here btw. They sell these birchwood letter cutouts for longboards with different designs and styles. I've personally purchased the different signs (Ohana) for my children and friends. They have frames with island themes as well as birchwood postcards, which make beautiful gifts and/or souvenirs. We never fail to make a stop here whenever my kids are back on the island and we are in the Ko'olina area "playing like tourists." Parking is sparse but I find that if we come early in the day, its quite easy. Staff is always friendly and eager to help.

What an amazing place. This place is like a Lego store for creating memories. Pick your stand/base and start to fill it up with your slide in pieces. It's like building custom Lego's. People are very friendly and even let us star slightly after closing as we couldn't decide on what we wanted. Just love how you can customize your memory. And if you run out of room with your open slots, you can get adhesive pieces to add on. We bought a large picture arrangement and I got a small surf board and stand with sticker pieces. Best memory of our trip we could have wished for. read more

It was almost as familiar as the sound of your own breathing while still foreign like a stranger whispering a dare in your ear on a red eye flight... cocoooooo.......neneeeeeeeee Can you handle the Coco? Will you face the Nene? I did. the shop is cute with wooden laser printed art. I picked up a Christmas Nene. That poor bird, always getting the short end of the stick. The last time we were at CocoNene was at their Laihaina location and we bought a Christmas ornament since we like to buy new ornaments anytime we vacation someplace new. Since we were familiar with CocoNene, we came to this location to find another Christmas ornament with our son. Overall, CocoNene has some nice merchandise and I don't think their ornament prices are that much more than what you might find in other tourist souvenir shops, such as ABC or someplace else. Also, although this store was smaller than their Laihaina store, it had many of the same items, which was nice. The reason for the lower score is that the sales person (a younger woman) was kind of snotty when we asked what brand were her insulated thermos since they looked like a knock-off Hydro Flask, but were 1/3 the price. She curtly stated that they were a Hydro Flask. These were definitely not a Hydro Flask since it had no Hydro Flask branding on it at all. Anyway, they need to train their employees a little better. read more

We bought the cutest signs here for ourselves and gifts for family. We went and made a costume sign with our last name spelled out. The store employee was very helpful and showing us how to build the custom signs... just like building a puzzle! She knew we would be flying back to California the following day and packed all our signs nicely for safe traveling. Highly recommend! read more

CocoNene was one of the handful of shops that I explored during my stay within the Ko Olina resort area. I usually pick up a Christmas tree ornament from wherever I travel, and as I was walking by I noticed CocoNene had an assortment in their window display. That was enough for me to step in and start browsing. CocoNene isn't too large, but they pack a lot in there. I noticed they sold a large selection of sandals and flip-flops, a good portion of the back walls were lined with them with multiple people browsing. Besides the footwear, they carry a large selection of wood products. Wood for almost every use - the aforementioned ornaments, picture frames, keychains, magnets, luggage tags, plus more. I noticed the option to purchase sets and make sort of a montage of some sort including a picture frame (there are pics posted by other Yelpers to give a better idea as to what I'm speaking of). All the wooden products are made in Hawaii, and feature a variety of themes and styles. By the time I finished browsing I did in fact end up getting an ornament for my tree. Service was friendly, and overall this is a cute little shop. If you're in the Ko Olina area it's worth a stop in. read more

Our full collection of CocoNene products include wood wall art, picture frames, clocks, coasters, holiday ornaments, bag tags and more. History

Established in 1986.

We started our business to provide quality casual footwear. The first Island Sole store opened in 2011 at Kahala Mall, and the business expanded statewide. With our background in local manufacturing (since 1986) and our history working with local artists (thanks to sister company Pictures Plus), one day it occurred to us: Why not create our OWN line of customizable home decor & gift products, featuring artwork by talented local artists in our community? So, we began to make wood wall art, bag tags, coasters, you name it! Picture frames, wood stickers and of course, #LongboardLetters-perfect for any occasion! Eventually, we outgrew the name Island Sole and adopted our new name: CocoNene. We converted our stores to 100% made in Hawaii products, proudly made at our factory in Kapolei on Oahu. Our logo is the Nene goose (Hawaii's state bird, and the rarest goose in the world!) Coco, our fun-loving nene, invites you to come in and create with us.

Meet the Business Owner: Kent U.

Kent Untermann began his business by selling framed artwork at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet in 1986. From those humble beginnings, the Pictures Plus organization was born. Over 30 years later, Untermann's organization has grown to include an entire family of brands, including our lifestyle division, which is made up of Island Sole and CocoNene. As a strong advocate for local manufacturing, Untermann has invested in advanced machinery to create a variety of Hawaii-inspired home décor and gift items at our manufacturing facility in Kapolei, HI.

Some are still around. Mom 'n pop stores, the inspiration behind Kalepa's Store at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. To enjoy Icee from Kaiko'o Seeds N'things, as we choose bags of cracked seed from this mom 'n pop store. Household appliances weren't purchased from corporate retailers like today. My family and most of East Hawai'i years+ ago were loyal to mom 'n pop stores like Modern Appliance. Next door, Kay's Lunch Center had the most delicious Korean fried chicken made by "mom", and slices of homemade cream pies by "pop". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Kai Store since 1948, Chika Nakano since 1975, Optical Dispensers, Hilo Siam Thai Restaurant (see my Yelp review), and Leung's Chop Suey House since 1975. Doris Place since 1948 on the west side and Hirano Store since 1969 in Mountain View. These are some of the mom 'n pop stores currently still in-business on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Since my childhood. And of course, the Hasegawa General Store since 1910, still serving the local community in Hana-Maui. I've bought a few over the years. I didn't see anything that I liked this time around. They did have those popular Disney x Aloha print bags near the entrance. People were buying everything in the store. They were standing in line holding clothes, mugs, toys, headbands with the ears and snacks. I really liked the Disney ears, but they were $40 something each or $30 each when you buy 3. I decided not to get them, even though they were so cute.

I love the array of shops and restaurants! Kapolei in general is bustling with so many shopping centers, you can make a day out of it! I bought 2 the first time for Christmas for my nieces, and they loved the experience of releasing the butterflies, I had to go back and buy another one. My sister loved it because it didn't make a mess, require assembly, batteries or parental assistance like most toys or gifts for kids that age. It's fascinating even for adults, I mean how do you even go from a crawling green worm like thing to a winged orange and black flying insect? It blows my mind. Did you know that most caterpillars don't make it to butterfly stage? They get eaten by birds etc or don't successfully transform into a butterfly. We successfully released all 3 butterflies I got from Paradise Monarch. Highly recommend!

Sometimes the packaging is just as important as the food because it is part of the overall customer experience. Charge us a little more for a better-quality container, and I think many customers would thank you for it. I was genuinely excited about my corned beef hash, so it was disappointing to have an exciting experience turn into a bad one the moment I walked out the door. I hope the new containers can be reconsidered or improved.

Everything from stationaries, totes and plushies the cuteness doesn't end there as there's Snoopy, Pokemon and even One Piece section in the back along with an actual character displayed there is really cool! I began to feel overwhelmed with the options and MICHELLE stepped in, she made the decisions easy and helped it not feel too busy but had everything we saw during our trip.
