The criteria were: (1) good food, (2) portion controlled entrees, and (3) reliable delivery. Early in 2010 my favorite food delivery company sadly went out of business. My first rebound was with Choice Eating, which proved to serve tasteless and sometimes inedible dishes. Fortunately, Eat Like the Pros fits all of my criteria. Here's the process: Their website lists all of the entrees (breakfast, lunch/dinner, snacks) that are available during a specific week (the menu changes weekly). Each item is available in different portions (ex. 300, 600 calories, etc.) that you can choose from. After you choose your items via their website, your delivery is at the front door around 5:30 a.m. It's that simple; you never have to wait for a delivery guy. Most importantly, the food is spectacular. It's like having your own personal chef where YOU get to choose what you want to eat (instead of having one prefix menu). My favorite entrees include the beef stew, thai coconut chicken, and the brisket. I highly recommend this service for busy professionals or those who need a little portion control to lose weight.

This plan also was 3 meals a day for 7 days. I felt horrible wasting food if I had a dinner planned. So, I started the search for an alternative meal program and found Eat Like the Pros. The delivery dates are Monday (order by 10am Friday) and Thursday (order by 10am on Monday). I am so impressed with the quality of food. Everything is flavorful and fresh. There are plenty of options in each category: entrees, veggies, starches, breakfast, snacks, etc. And a variety of calorie counts depending on what your need is. Everything has been delicious and made me think...how did they get all of that flavor into a 225 calorie piece of fish or chicken. They deliver the food in a cooler bag with ice packs. You leave your bag out the night of a deliver and the driver swaps out the empty bag with ice packs for a bag with food & ice packs. Very simple. They deliver (usually) by 6am. I think the cost is reasonable for the quality of the food and compared to some of the other organic programs. There is no minimum order. I tend to use Eat Like the Pros more for dinner meals, some lunches, and snacks. I am on my own for breakfast and some lunches. I am very happy and excited to try new meals. The other positive is this program is gluten free and soy free. The prior plan I was on included a lot of breads and pastas. I do eat gluten...but it is much more limited now. I feel so much better on this program and have more consistent energy. Highly recommend!

For me, Northern Fork is excellent at doing elevated versions of familiar food with excellent flavor combinations and textures. I don't think I've ever had any item that I didn't enjoy but in general am delighted by what I have. Two things about the ingredients really stand out for me from this caterer. For most all of them, the vegetables are fresh and delicious, but Northern Fork's fruit is perfectly ripe and sweet. This way I never have to worry about getting a sour piece of fruit. The other thing is that I don't normally choose vegan food, but Northern Fork has managed to make everything taste delicious. Overall, everything about the food here seems to be on the healthier but still extremely tasty side and many items I've tried beat the flavor of local restaurants nearby.

We were interested in Schaul's for catering for our wedding in Chicago. Let me say that from the very beginning, Schaul's and specifically Mo who was our coordinator impressed us so much! We went to a tasting, where the chef came out to talk to us about the food and the preparation (so impressive, and different from our other tasting that went to). When we had a few suggestions/modifications to the food (we wanted the fried chicken a little crispier, different appetizers etc.), we booked another tasting and the chef took our notes and modified the food to our liking. Not to mention during the entire process, Mo was incredibly responsive, answering all of our questions and concerns. We signed the contract and the entire year leading up to our wedding, Mo assisted the entire way, making sure that we had everything we needed. We decided to BYOB since our venue allowed it (seriously such a great decision), and Schaul's provided the mixer package along with bartenders. Mo helped coordinate all of it and made the process so much easier. Schaul's not only assisted with catering services, but also helped set up some decorations as well day of, which was such a big help as we didn't have a day of coordinator. And oh my goodness, the food! THE FOOD! It was seriously the best wedding food we've ever had and we received so many compliments from our guests. We even had the father of the groom state multiple times during the night how "this was the most food I've ever eaten at a wedding". We had people steal onion dip from the cocktail hour and bring it with them to the dinner part because they loved it so much. We got so many rave reviews on not only the food but also the wait staff. The wait staff were so on top of it, several waiters stopped me during the night to ask me specifically if I needed a drink. They moved tables for the dance floor, and were super attentive. I also heard from guests that the bartenders were also incredible! We seriously could not have asked for more! Schaul's and Mo absolutely crushed it! They were able to take our different menu (fried chicken, lobster rolls etc.) and make it completely work with our wedding! Seriously, do yourself a favor and book them!

Both times the food arrived EXACTLY at 4pm and was top quality with good portions for most. My dad recently needs to be on a lower sodium diet so it's nice to provide 1-2 meals per week for him with no commitment- he usually eats only half of the portion per meal and can easily know the sodium content. My wife and I have tried a few of the meals and been happy with everything - sometimes calories and fat/sodium can be a bit higher than my wife prefers for a single meal but you have all the info before ordering. There's always a salmon option, and a recent "Retro Fried Chicken Bowl" was great if slightly unhealthier than ideal but had a nice portion of well cooked chicken and included a fantastic smothered sauce plus the side of applesauce was chunky, flavorful, and just as good as we would make at home. If you don't make your own applesauce this will show you why you should do it. Nothing but positive so far, and prices generally seem consistent with the "ready to cook" options in the market but you have much less packaging waste and don't need to spend a bunch of time cooking and cleaning up which can be nice during the week. Most dishes are 2-3 minutes heating up in the microwave and end up great. Don't get me wrong, we love to cook but I prefer to use my own recipes and for my dad with limited mobility a quick, healthier microwave meal or a "soft food" option is important. And for my wife and me, this is a nice supplement to our weeknight meals. Bravo to a great local business worth supporting!
