I've ordered from Meal Village a couple times and had great experiences including ordering online which was very easy. Both times the food arrived EXACTLY at 4pm and was top quality with good portions for most. My dad recently needs to be on a lower sodium diet so it's nice to provide 1-2 meals per week for him with no commitment- he usually eats only half of the portion per meal and can easily know the sodium content. My wife and I have tried a few of the meals and been happy with everything - sometimes calories and fat/sodium can be a bit higher than my wife prefers for a single meal but you have all the info before ordering. There's always a salmon option, and a recent "Retro Fried Chicken Bowl" was great if slightly unhealthier than ideal but had a nice portion of well cooked chicken and included a fantastic smothered sauce plus the side of applesauce was chunky, flavorful, and just as good as we would make at home. If you don't make your own applesauce this will show you why you should do it. Nothing but positive so far, and prices generally seem consistent with the "ready to cook" options in the market but you have much less packaging waste and don't need to spend a bunch of time cooking and cleaning up which can be nice during the week. Most dishes are 2-3 minutes heating up in the microwave and end up great. Don't get me wrong, we love to cook but I prefer to use my own recipes and for my dad with limited mobility a quick, healthier microwave meal or a "soft food" option is important. And for my wife and me, this is a nice supplement to our weeknight meals. Bravo to a great local business worth supporting! read more

Carrots baby uncooked parboiled if that ! White potatoes cooked with three ping pong ball size only digestible cooled food within the plastic black microwaveable container. Most of the meals I've ordered are very good but need more variety. They do not offer enough low sodium and low carb choices!! Also when I look at Mondays and Fridays there are NO low sodium or low carb choices. I suggest they add more choices and fix the Monday and Friday issue. read more

These people know how to cook! Their food is delicious. I have liked everything I've tried from them (but the Cod dish which was too fishy -- could have been an "off" piece because their food is really fresh) and husband thinks their food is great. We've used many meal services in Chicago, for long periods of time: "Cooked" (very good, moved on to something different so no longer available); "The Green Gourmet" (good, no longer available); Fittingly delicious (good), and then others not as good. All of them were still missing the consistently savory, more deeply dimensional dishes that Meal Village offers and none had the ability to economically choose individual dishes in the way that you can with Meal Village. Since we had been ordering by the week from some services or month from Cooked (delivered weekly, charged monthly) before going to Meal Village, we're now paying more with Meal Village in delivery charges because they deliver daily. The same cost we paid for delivery charges for a month with Cooked (about $4.50) is the daily delivery cost for Meal Village. So, I am still not sure how long we can sustain this as a regular service, and as with almost all services, the amount of plastic used is not eco-friendly, but as a treat for super busy times in life, they're reasonable for the meals they provide. They're all really good. The customer service is really good too. Definitely worth having in your repertoire. I particularly love any dish they have with cumin rice and roti, like the Chicken with Coconut Gravy and Cumin Rice with Roti. YUM. The potato and cauliflower dish, with same, is also excellent. My Italian husband, who could live on Spaghetti, thought their lasagna was superb and raved about their pecan pie. We've tried lots of meals. He's liked them all. As someone who had 4 surgeries in 15 months, I needed a food service that is affordable, easy to prepare, and delicious. Meal Village checks all the boxes! The menu rotates so there is plenty of variety and every dish comes with directions on how to prepare or cook. Most warm meals are either 2 to 3 min in microwave or 10 to 12 minutes in the oven. The portion size is perfect. I usually can not eat 1 tray by myself. Sometimes, my husband and I can share 1 meal and both be full. The meals are cheaper than McDonald's and way more delicious. My nurse asked me about nutrition and cooking after all of my operations. When I described Meal Village, they were really impressed once they looked them up. You don't have to prepare any food, it comes directly to your doorstep, the price is right, and everything I have tried has been delicious! I've only ordered from Meal Village once so far, but my husband and I really enjoyed it! We used their service after we had a baby and it is perfect for busy (and tired) days. Everything we've tried (below) was delicious! My husband added hot sauce to the beef kabobs, but he adds hot sauce to nearly everything. The Chicken Fried Rice with Pineapple was a kids meal so it was simple, but it was good. The salads! I really liked both salads. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the veggies, meat and dressing are delicious. I have been eating Meal Village foods for about the past month. Everything I've gotten has been delicious, and it tastes homemade instead of restaurant made. It's not swimming in fat or salt like restaurant food often is. I usually order once a week and just get four or five different things that day, in order to save on the three dollar daily delivery charge. There are no plans or anything. You just order what you want before noon, tell them when you want the food delivered, and they put it in front of your door in that time window, ringing the bell to let you know it's there. I used to get Green Chef but I always had too much food and I could never cook all the meals in my plan before the food went bad. I can often split these meals into two separate meals by adding extra vegetables or rice or potatoes. I rarely eat meat except for fish, and they've had good shrimp and salmon options. They also have great plant-based options; the sweet potato / black bean enchiladas and the mushroom fajitas are awesome and the portions are big! Another plus is that these meals come in those black meal prep type containers with the clear lids. They stack on top of each other in the fridge so perfectly that I now use them for just about anything I have in the freezer and fridge. I put erasable freezer labels on the front of the clear plastic lids, and then I write what's in them, and I can see everything in my fridge in one fell swoop. I move the MV labels from the side of the container to the front so I can easily see what meals I have in the fridge, too. Meal for me and my son for 5-6 days a week run about $50, which isn't bad at all considering how much most services cost. Occasionally, I order the sides as meals and just add extra veggies to round them out. Those are fairly cheap and contain a lot of food (baked mac n cheese and baked tomato pasta). So far they've been (very) late one time in the past month, which is pretty good. They also gave me a $10 voucher to compensate for the lateness. That was a nice touch. Once, I ended up going out of town and had to cancel an order and the gave me a refund voucher I could use for future meals. All in all, a great service, great food, and not having a "meal plan" has been wonderful. It's a great business model with nice people, and I hope they stay in business a long, long time. read more

OMG Meal Village has been the greatest find ever. I wasn't eating very well because I had developed severe osteoarthritis and sciatica and cooking for myself had become a burden. I resorted to eating a lot of microwave meals and ordering-in through DoorDash. It was costing a fortune and I was gaining weight, and we all know that restaurant meals besides being expensive are often very high in calories, fat, and sodium. I stumbled across Meal Village on my Facebook Feed. I had already tried a whole bunch of meal delivery services (like Freshly, Real Eats, etc.) and thought they were all pretty bad. But Meal Village was local and got rave reviews. Plus the food wasn't shipped to me once a week it was delivered daily. Figured I'd give it a shot. After the bad experiences I'd had with those other services I didn't have high expectations. Boy was I wrong. Food was SO good. And the prices were reasonable and most portions were very generous. And the delivery was on time 95% of the time and a fair charge for delivery. I was hooked. I have been ordering from them now for about 2 months. I order dinner nearly every night. Sometimes if I can't decide between two meals (because they offer so many options I like) I will order an extra meal and eat it for lunch the next day. I have also frozen a couple of meals when I ordered too much (LOL), but have not thawed them out yet, so can't tell you how that went, but I'm sure it will be fine. Now for the food. Favorite meals so far: Chicken Fajitas, Roasted cod w/ red pepper pasta and spinach, Beef Stew, all of the shrimp dishes (Alfredo, shrimp caesar salad, shrimp scampi, garlic-ginger, shrimp creole), chicken picatta, African peanut stew, black bean & sweet potato enchiladas, quinoa stuffed poblanos, roasted half chicken, BBQ chicken, latin steak salad, thai steak salad, lentil bolognese spaghetti, chicken parm, cheddar potato soup. Out of the 40 meals I've ordered there were only two that I thought were just "good/okay" and only one I wouldn't order again (it was a specific salad, but I'm not a salad lover so it might just be me, others may have loved those meals). It seems obvious that they put thought into their meals and take care to try to make their meals both healthy and tasty. They always offer some vegan / veg options (I love those meals but am also a cheese addict so I just sprinkle some cheese on top of my vegan entrees when I heat them up). I find I am even eating stuff I don't normally like (quinoa for one, lol and it's delish!) And they take care to put fattening things like salad dressings, toppings, etc. on the side so you can add as much or as little as I want. I really appreciate that. I am eating MUCH healthier since I started ordering their dinners. I've actually dropped 10 lbs. Yes, I am being more careful overall, but having a really healthy dinner to look forward to every night is helping keep me on track. My wife and I have been using MV for several months now. We love their food and easy delivery. Unlike other services that force a subscription, we can order as needed each day/week. We often order a couple days worth of meals to save the (very reasonable) $3.50 delivery charge. Their food is far more tasty and better proportioned (read larger) than other services we've tried. I've gotten my elderly parents to use it and they often get two meals from a single meal serving. Their meals taste home made and you can tell how fresh they are. (I believe they're made fresh that morning) We also appreciate that we can order up until noon for late afternoon delivery, so when we're getting ready for work and ask "What should be do for dinner tonight?" I can just whip out the app on my phone, we order and are all set for dinner....problem solved. Our cost of grocery shopping has now gone way down. And, it's great when dinner prep consists of 3 minutes in the microwave for each meal and cleanup consists of putting our glasses and silverware in the dishwasher and rinsing the containers and putting into recycling. Both my mother and wife are excellent cooks, so I know good food. MV is the best. read more

Great food but customer service is the WORSE. I had a friend that wanted to try them. The food was 1 1/2 hours late, when she called she was on hold for 1 hour then hung up. She tried to use her new customer coupon and they refused it saying it expired. The customer service person was very rude. I love Meal Village! I initially heard about Meal Village through Facebook and then saw that Groupon had a deal going on. Since I'm feeding a family of 4, I opted for the $30 for $60 on Groupon. With Meal Village there's no cook or prep time, you simply heat up your meal in the microwave per the instructions and it's ready-to-eat. They deliver meals to the Chicago suburbs daily in the specified time-frame, so everything you eat was prepared fresh earlier that day! I was a bit skeptical at first because I've tried other "ready made" meal services and they were pretty horrible. But Meal Village is consistent with both taste, quality AND quantity! Portions are humongous and a great bang for the buck! The options are fairly basic, but they're well executed. I always love their Mexican and Mediterranean options the best and my husband loves their Italian options. We always try to get the family option (3 meal portions for only slightly more than the price of 2 portions) because you can save much more that way, but you can easily just get 1 portion of whatever dish you want while your spouse chooses another. Also, we limit the number of deliveries to 2-3 per week because each day is an additional delivery charge. Only complaint is that I wish they offered more vegetarian options. They occasionally have an eggplant parmigiana, but I'd like to see more ingenuity with their recipes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. read more

We've now ordered from Meal Village several times, and everything was perfect every time. The food is excellent and couldn't be easier to prepare. Just pop into the microwave and it's done. The portions are large, and we usually have leftovers that can be reheated for a lunch. Yes, it costs more than a frozen dinner from a supermarket, but the quality is far superior. We usually order 2 days' worth of meals to be delivered together so we only have to pay one delivery charge. They keep for several days in the refrigerator. We've been customers of Meal Village for a little over a year and most of the meals we've had have been great...Almost every delivery has been on time (even when the weather was hideous) and we've been really happy with everything we've ordered...some more than others, but that's human nature I guess.,.well, until last night. My husband ordered the sticky rice/chicken for himself and ordered a half roast chicken for me. He didn't realize the roast chicken came with spinach , which I hate. OK fair enough, I didn't have to eat it...it also came with roasted potatoes. When I heated the meal, the spinach released a good deal of moisture, which, in turn, soaked the potatoes. Not good ! He hated the chicken meal he got for himself...which was surprising, because he's not really picky about food in general. He said the sauce for the chicken was way too sweet..and unappealing....I'm thinking if this had been our first experience we probably would never order again. I've been very satisfied with everything we've ever had and for the price it's a good value. A few dollars more than "healthy" fast food but so much better for you and delivered to your door! I used to have Home Chef delivered but once I heard about Meal Village (which was the same price per meal/per person) I gave them a chance and never looked back! Great fresh food delivered without the cooking and clean up! And no contracts! I order as much or as little as I want and don't have to worry selecting "skip a week" when needed. The delivery people are always so nice and come within the hour range you select. One time they accidentally gave me one wrong meal so I let them know right away and they came back within the hour with the correct one and even let me keep the wrong one for free! This place is just what I needed! I was searching for a meal prep service in the area and came across the place. I tested them out this week and it's been wonderful. All food has been fantastic--very flavorful, you can tell everything is fresh (I hate peas, and now i love them thanks to a dish I had here! who knew peas were so tasty?). We have been using Meal Village of Naperville now for about a month. We have had 4 meals delivered per week, so 20 meals in all. Wow. We have thoroughly enjoyed each meal. The food is tasty and fresh, good sized portions, delivered promptly each day at the requested time, well packaged with clear heating instructions. The meals really taste home cooked. i've had 4 of the meals now...so felt a review could be justified due the the sample size. they are all entrees... 2 were really good....2 were average. the average dishes had nothing to do with the ingredients...it was the seasoning and preparation. one thai dish was bland (they need to season and add basil and some coconut milk to tighten up the sauce)....and one steak and rice dish the rice was undercooked so it was kind of loose and starchy. i would have easily gone 4, maybe 5 stars without those issues. Nevertheless...the overall value is good...fresh ingredients, home made, very reasonable pricing, delivered right to your door in an easy microwaveable container. they do single serving or family portions....and you can order same day...ala carte...no subscriptions or plans or any of that nonsense. i will definitely continue to use them......great option a few times a week when you don't feel like cooking....and way more convenient and cheaper than going out solo, or taking a family out to a restaurant to get the same quality of food. read more
