Truffles

We walked into cocoa mia as we were wandering across town on a cold fall morning in Floyd. As soon as we walked in we were offered delicious hot chocolate samples and it was love at first sip! Cocoa mia is a MUST VISIT if you're in this part of the world. Everything we got here was delicious but my favorite were the truffles.

This was the most darling chocolate shop I've ever experienced! It was a bit chilly when I stumbled upon this gem. I was immediately greeted by a most pleasant owner, delicious sweetness in the air, and FREE HAND CRAFTED HOT COCOA AND FREE CHOCOLATE. It was creamy, rich and delicious. I wish I had time to stay and enjoy a book while basking in the delightful atmosphere. It was quaint and I wanted every single thing in the store!

I stopped in after doing business in the court house. A quaint shop with a charming chocolatier. I had a nice coffee and a chocolate covered almond stuffed date. But the chocolate dipped coconut macaroon was as good as I've had in NYC. If you find yourself in Floyd do not miss this spot.

(Wow, I have never seen an overall rating for a business be so wrong! 2 stars is absurd.)…read more The Chocolate Spike is one of my favorite places anywhere to get handmade chocolate and it's right HERE in Blacksburg! I imagine if you came here looking for a cafe you would be disappointed, but this is a chocolate shop. It's true that the shop lost some of it's charm when it moved from downtown, but I am sure they do better business where they are now and I can't really begrudge them the move. Things I love from the Chocolate Spike: - Chocolate covered candied fruits (especially orange peel) - Truffles - Plain dark chocolate or bittersweet bits that you purchase by weight. The selection of chocolate and chocolate cover goodness is extensive, but the basics do not suffer because of it. The prices are good for homemade chocolate. The chocolate is excellent quality. Buy some for yourself, your sweetheart, your mom, your officemates... they will love you for it!

I recommend Chocolate Spike for: - Personal treats (I…read morealways keep some of their solid chocolate of nonpareils around) - Gifts for family, friends, and loved ones (you can put together great gift boxes of whatever you think the person will like - I usually go with solid chocolate plus a few fancy looking truffles or chocolate covered fruit) I LOVE Chocolate Spike. My personal favorite is the bittersweet chocolate solids and the nonpareils, but I also regularly buy chocolate covered oreos and chocolate covered marshmallows as a special treat. Their chocolate-covered caramel apples (only available in fall unfortunately) are also one of my favorite foods in the whole world. I'm not a big truffle fan myself, but I ordered the "Bit of Bubbly" white chocolate truffles for my wedding and they were a huge hit. If you are ever throwing an event like a wedding, baby shower, or other party I definitely recommend ordering your party favors/treats from Chocolate Spike - you can do a tasting (don't even bother asking how excited I was about that - the answer is VERY) and they'll do custom shaped chocolate solids and adjust the size of truffles to fit your theme and budget. I can't go home to my parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles anymore without a box of Chocolate Spike chocolate for each. My grandparents are diabetic but Chocolate Spike's sugar free chocolate solids taste better than most normal chocolates so it's always great to get a big box that everyone can enjoy without leaving anyone out! I actually like the new location more too - it means they're open until 9pm most nights and I often forget how much I want chocolate until I finish dinner and realize I've run out and need more!

My husband on the other hand, showed no such restraint in the confection department as we spent a lot of green on candy purchases both times we visited the store during our long weekend in Roanoke. They also have so many neat gift ideas and items for your house. If you like to have fun cocktail napkins at your parties, you will find a huge assortment here. If I'd had a bigger suitcase, I would have bought more. The staff here is super friendly and helpful. They seem to enjoy what they do and it shows in the pride they take in the store and in their interactions with customers. Excellent place!

The store is completely packed from wall to wall and display case to display case in a well organized way and they manage to always be caught up with the current Holiday Season at hand. Besides this, it has a warm and friendly group of employees who greet you warmly from the time you step foot in the store and are always ready to answer any questions you might have of any of their products as well as assist you in selecting a gift or putting together a group of nice chocolate for that special person in your life. From the time you enter the store, you encounter a vast variety of greeting cards, chocolates, and gifts of all kinds; including books, local souvenirs of the Star City of Roanoke, and many curiosity items that will be the a surprise and topic of discussion of anyone fortunate to receive it as a gift. I highly recommend this unique chocolate, greeting cards, and gift shop to all those who are looking for a special gift for a family member, a friend, or a loved one, during the Holiday Season, for their birthday, or just to make any day a special day by surprising them with that "one of a kind" gift.

So needless to say, this went up to the top of my queue. Finally, I visited last week around 11:15am just after they opened and had a great experience, and of course walked out with some delicious truffles. The owner was very friendly and talked to us about the variety of chocolates, where they're sourced, which ones he prefers etc. They sell some local artisan products/merch (soaps, cards, etc) as well. After much internal struggle (I wanted everything), I settled on an 8 count of truffles and got some citrusy, caramel, and alcohol-infused flavors. I really liked the strawberry champagne and tangerine truffles. I will definitely return to satiate my sweet tooth. This place also does private chocolatier classes (truffles, molds, bars etc) for groups of 2-10 people. They don't have a set schedule, you just call to set a time that works well for you. Definitely something else I would be interested in checking out.

This small place offers a very nice array of flavored, hand crafted chocolate bars, bonbons, and more, crafted by folks who care about what they are creating! I tried : bars - Milk Chocolate, Sea Salt, and Ocean Tide (sea salt and carmel). All 3 were excellent, but the Milk Chocolate is the very best of the lot - it rivals any I tasted in Europe. The sea salt is excellent, even a bit addictive with the hook at the end of a bite. That's the good news, the bad news is that each bar is 2.2 ounces and costs $10 each! Frankly, that is value prohibitive for many folks - there is little value here! Obviously, many see this differently, but I'll stay with my opinion! Ambiance - 4 Food - 4.5 Service - 5 Value - 2
