I wish I could teleport this store to New York so I could shop there more regularly. I love greeting cards and the selection here is incredible and it took incredible restraint on my part to only buy seven of them! My husband on the other hand, showed no such restraint in the confection department as we spent a lot of green on candy purchases both times we visited the store during our long weekend in Roanoke. They also have so many neat gift ideas and items for your house. If you like to have fun cocktail napkins at your parties, you will find a huge assortment here. If I'd had a bigger suitcase, I would have bought more. The staff here is super friendly and helpful. Who doesn't love chocolate or some variation? Chocolatepaper was one of the stops on our walking food tour. It was very busy, but they accommodated us fairly quickly. The samples of chocolate we got were delicious. It was one of the only places I have seen homemade truffles in a long time... and there were so many! We were visiting Roanoke and exploring the downtown when my spouse realized she needed to purchase a birthday card and get it mailed that day. They have tons of cards that are fun to peruse all while being intoxicated by the smell of chocolate. The chocolate display case is quite large and we enjoyed looking at all of the varieties but decided to pass in part because we couldn't decide what to get. We also enjoyed looking at various gifty items like stuffed animals, puzzles, calendars, books and socks. A lot of the merchandise reminded me of the goodies I like to find at Papyrus and Paper Source. Chocolatepaper also has some local themed stuff like beer glasses and prints featuring the Roanoke star. Overall, this is a great local store. read more

Really liked the store. All kind of gifts, cards, and of course chocolate. I came right before close, which I was unaware of, so the employees seemed a little irritated at my browsing. They also do a chocolate and wine tasting which I think is cool but didn't see any details. We got a dark chocolate mousse, dark overboard truffle, mint cookie, and pb cookie. I was disappointed with all of the chocolate, none of them tasted fresh. I'm not even sure if the candy is made there but could be. Some of the candy was cheap, others expensive. This store is my kryptonite. They have so many unique, fun gifts, organized by categories - there's a section all about witches, and one about gardening, one about the Virginia Blue Ridge region, one for kids, etc, etc, - you can literally find a creative and unique gift for anyone in your life. I come back to Chocolatepaper because there isn't anything else like it... it has chocolates from different vendors across the country and because of that varietal offering, I come back. It's not like your little candy shop that makes them in the back, and that was a small disappointment, but the store itself makes up for it. The chocolates taste good too, so it's worth trying a small $1-$3 morsel of crafted chocolates. I've had the Jalapeno Peanut (Nice flavors would get again), the Espresso (flavor was too sweet for my liking) and some seasonal Thanksgiving item that I don't really remember (I don't know what that means but you can make an inference of its unmemorable-ness). I like the funny items they sell, and while I wouldn't buy too much from there since I'm sure it'd be cheaper at TJMaxx or online, it's nice to browse through. read more

Oh how I love this little store. Yeah, it's a chocolate shop, but it's so much more. There are unique gift items galore in this place. They have gifts for kids and pets too. From note paper to dishes to decorative items to clothing items to books and on and on it goes. Yeah I spent some money here.... And then there are the chocolates. I'm a sucker for chocolate covered pretzels and they have a gorgeous collection if them. I indulged in toffee covered, and the dark chocolate one. They also have a pretty large colloection of no sugar added chocolates for those of us who try to watch sugar and carb intake, and they are delicious! One thing I'd love to see them do are chocolate drinks. I just think it would be such a nice addition to the business. But, that's a small matter, the shop rocks just as it is. Was trying to find a gift for my mother-in-law for mother's day, and wanted to shop local. Had to call around a bit because lots of stuff is closed. But the owner of chocolatepaper has the store phones forwarded to her cell, and she picked up right away. She was friendly and helpful, and even took my requests to tweak one of the gift baskets from the website, in order to switch out some of the items. Plus, she went out of her way to make sure that the gift got delivered in time, and even texted me to let me know when it was dropped off. This is a second location to the ChocolatePaper on Electric Rd. Located in the downtown market area, it's a great place to pop in whether to grab yourself a nice chocolatey treat, a goofy or quirky gift for someone special, or a humorous greeting card for a special occasion. They have chocolates (truffles, fudges, clusters, etc.) from companies all over the world in nice bright display cases. You can pick and choose your own combination of goodies or order a box of just one treat. They have non-chocolatey treats as well. There are all types of knickknacks including some Roanoke/Blacksburg/Star City merchandise. Be sure to make your way to the back of the store to see all of the fun and unique gifts they have to sell. If you're looking for a card or gift that's a little naughty, go to the very back and check out the small shelf at the end of the chocolate display cases. They also sell sodas in glass bottles, so if you are looking for something refreshing while you're walking along the Market, you can grab a cold one from the small fridge by the entrance.
