$10 extra charge added to their sheer gel colors.

Starting off by saying I LOVE coco nails and have visited every three weeks for the past two years and put multiple friends onto coming here. However, the price increases are getting out of hand. It was $43 for a gel mani, then silently changed to $45 - which was not a problem. But now, there's a $10 extra charge for sheer colors. I came in one day and they added a $10 price tag onto the sheer colors. They said this is because sheer colors are harder to apply - but it's just a plain gel manicure at the end of the day. If I brought in my own color, they said they'll still charge me an extra $10. If I'm paying $10 more for an excellent manicure, it should be perfect but it's just not. It just really sucks and feels like they are taking advantage of knowing sheer colors are popular. They used to soak off my gel but now fully drill it off which causes my nails to break within a week due to them being much thinner. I'm really torn because I love Coco and it's a great neighborhood spot, however, the extra $10 adds up when you visit loyally every 3 weeks. Happy to discuss more if there's questions.

Best nails in New York. I've been coming for a while now and each time leave with incredible nails. This time we went for black and white vibe and I'm just in love! Thank you Lily for being the best!!

I'm obsessed with my nails!! The shape, color, and tiny details are literally perfect. Everyone has been complimenting them nonstop. Super clean work and such a relaxing experience. Definitely coming back again

Easily my new favorite nail salon. Got my pedi and color change here with Sandra and was very satisfied. Tips however are only accepted via Venmo or cash.

    Very Hungry Caterpillar nail art

The best in the business! I had the cutest Very Hungry Caterpillar nails done for my child's birthday and they stunned! So friendly and lovely and did exactly what I wanted - thank you!!!!

Nothing extravagant. French manicure with chrome = $200

SCAM ALERT This has been my regular neighborhood nail salon for at least 30 years. However, I somehow just paid close to $300 for a gel-x fill, gel French manicure with chrome, and a gel pedicure. I'm still trying to figure this out. Apparently they used a special gel bc I have gel-x. I have had gel-x on and off for several years. Never have I paid $90 for a fill, or $45 additional for chrome. Somehow their prices exceed those at five star hotel salons. Guess I won't be coming back. Yikes

Wonderful experience! They have many beautiful colors to choose, and they're amazing at designs! I love the shape and thickness, looks so natural! And usually last for three or four weeks! Highly recommend!

Shirley was amazing! She did my nails exactly like my inspo pic and was very detailed in her work

OK BUCKLE UP PEOPLE this is gonna be a long one. But I promise it's worth the read. So I've been getting nail art for a long time, and when I say a long time I mean over a decade. Back then there were no nail jewels or press ons or stickers or any of those cute lil things that you can get on your nails now. I used to find random things-- trinkets, Pendants, pieces from jewelry that I broke off-- and would bring them to my nail appointments to have them glued on. Basically, I've been in the game for a while, and there are not a lot of things that I say, I know, but I know nail art. I started going to Nicole in 2015 when it was just her, one other girl, and her mom, working with just two chairs in flushing. I traveled two hours round trip (sometimes more in traffic) once a month EVERY single month 12 months a year to see her. Her creativity, attention to detail, and pure genius was something rare and truly one of a kind. I was so excited when she moved to this location in chelsea--the larger space that she deserves, that we all deserve, because now more people can experience her genius. The space is big and bright and always very clean. Now, when you see somebody consistently, every month for every year for 10 years straight, you get to know them. And Nicole is the hardest working person I've ever met-- she rarely takes a day off if ever and goes on maybe barely one vacation a year. For that alone, I love supporting her business and seeing her flourish; nail art is ubiquitous now and it's not an easy job. She has now trained her staff to the same level of expertise in nail art, and I trust any one of them to do my nails (just look at the photos I attached, the recent ones were all done by her staff as she kept a close eye on progress !). They are super detailed and so fast and efficient, which I always appreciate immensely. They can do ANY design you throw at them, and I mean anything at all. Beyond the mastery of the craft, Nicole and her staff are just great human beings. I got engaged recently and before my trip I had a hunch, I knew what my ring would look like and described it to them , and Nicole and her staff put their heads together to thoughtfully create a beautiful design to complement my yellow diamond, while still staying true to my individual style. All of my manicures here stay perfectly intact until I go back to remove the following month (4-6weeks). If you love pretty nails, you should read that New York Times article (the price of nice nails). This is not an easy industry-- the workers are constantly inhaling fumes, it's long hours hunched over , And who wants acrylic nail dust (or real nail dust ) all their hair and clothes constantly? complicated designs take a long time to create and the price can and should reflect that, so keep that in mind when you think about cost. Most of Nicoles staff have been with her for years, I like that I go into the salon and see familiar faces all throughout the years. I can only assume that the staff are happy, which is why they've stayed for so long. If you can't tell by now, I'm a big fan of Nicole and coco nail art, in more than one way. If something happens during your appt and you are unhappy with your service, please speak up to the technician, they would rather hear your thoughts and correct whatever it is than have you go home unhappy-- and trust me, even though I've been coming here for 10 years I can still be a Karen about having my nails just the way I want it! If you haven't come yet and are debating, I urge you to give it a shot because not only will you walk away with gorgeous mesmerizing nails that will distract you all day, but you can feel good knowing that you're supporting a really great business with really great people. Love you coco nails!! Thank you!!

My nails were taken such good care of and the (gel) polish didn't chip a smidge and I had them on for atleast a month.

It truly creates a relaxing atmosphere. However, I've noticed that the quality of the mani & pedi has declined over the years, which has made me hesitant to return, even though it's in the most convenient location for me. These days when I returned, it's just for last minute color change to avoid more damage. I referred a friend to join me for a mani/pedi once, and she also mentioned that while the ambiance is great, but the owners should get their own mani & pedi done by their technicians, which I completely agree with. While I usually don't like getting my cuticles pushed or cut, I really appreciate that they respected that preference. However, when it comes to removing polish, it's done very recklessly with a lack of attention to detail. On several occasions, they've scraped the skin around the nails--sometimes cutting it to the point where it bled and required a bandage. When I mentioned this to the hostess after she asked for feedback, she dismissed it by saying I have sensitive skin. Since when is it normal for skin to be scraped during a mani/pedi? Additionally, I've had gel mani here twice in a row, and the technician over-shaved to the point where my nails ended up paper-thin that I have to ask the technician to apply extra coats to make up for it. One time, the technician even touched my skin with the machine that is used to shave the gel polish off. I've also had my skin scraped during pedicures, which is concerning. Every time I get a gel mani, within two weeks, the polish would start to lift on the cuticle side, which shows a lack of precision during the application. My friend got a regular mani & pedi here, and one of her nails chipped within a day. While I still love the atmosphere and the owners, the decline in the quality of the services, especially regarding polish removal, nail care, and attention to detail, has made me hesitant on coming back.

The interior design of the space is what pulled my attention when walking up 9th Ave. It is chic yet accessible and never approaches being or feeling gaudy. Very clean look (and space). Great color palate used. Very comfortable chairs. Good use of white space accentuated with green angular paint and golden decals and other ornamentations, all done minimally and with purposeful placement. Carmen (my nail tech) made good efforts and took obvious care to give me a nice buff manicure, all for only $27 (+ a small amount of tax). No nips or cuts. No pain. Textbook technique. Picked up well on when I wanted to zen out to the aura of the space and the well-curated spa playlist vs when I was open to a little nail tech kiki. Loved the sugar scrub they use for the hand massage. I take ownership for not getting the pre-cuticle work nail soak as part of the provided service. IMO, if a nail salon doesn't automatically incorporate the soak into your mani, you as the customer should speak up when the softening gel is pulled out and before it is applied. If they don't offer it? That's another thing. But I didn't test those waters and cannot speak to Nail Me Right (goodness gravy I love the business name!). So, keep in mind if the soak is your thing. They were very accommodating from the moment I arrived until I left. So I have a hunch this request wouldn't be a problem. Same with the end result. You as the customer are responsible for checking your nails / hands / feet / whatever before ending the appointment. I was late for my next appointment and did not, later seeing I would've like a little extra work done where the far end of nail edges meets the finger and a shinier buff applied. Again, I am quite sure Carmen would have accommodated had I done my part and spoken up before leaving. Still, I woke up the next morning to those slight extra bits naturally working themselves out (which points to the moisturizing measures NMR applies being of good quality), and my hand looking nice. I plan to pop in next time I'm in the area and in the market for some nail / hand / foot love, and hope you'll consider doing the same to support this family and what they're working to bring to the neighborhood.
