Just stopped to pick up a chocolate shake - it was very tasty but a couple of comments. 1) $9 for a shake is a lot of money. You only offer one size - need to have small and larger. Also, there needs to be value. I could go to Frostee Freeze or McDonalds and get a shake for much less money. 2) Why no prices on the menu. I believed the hype and my expectation fell flat below disappointed. Upon entering, the theme is a cool eclectic, retro style, but was all over the place. Almost like a collector of things needed a place to display memoriablia. The place is called Coco Freeze Ice Cream Shop but they only have 8-10 flavors to choose from- maybe less... but definitely not more. We ordered a hot dog, corn, and ice cream. The counter person was nice and explained the difference between items like a volcano corn vs extreme corn. She also provided some suggestions. When the food/ice cream finally arrived, it was just okay. My ice cream portion on the super churros was small. It's one churro cut into 3 with melon baller sized ice cream scoops. The churro was a ready made like churro that was probably micro heated. The extreme hot cheetos corn was gross. The cheetos were stale, the corn was canned and tasted old and so did the cheese. No amount of lemon and tajin could fix it. The ice cream was good, but probably because it was Thriftys. The save was the hotdog. It's a polish dog, that was partially heated through, but decent enough to eat. Oh! Before I forget... a small little boy ran behind the counter and was playing back and forth from behind the counter. Word to the wise, that's an OSHA issue waiting to happen. People seem to like this place. I'm guessing mine was just an isolated bad experience. However, it was enough for me to decide it wont be a place for me to come back to. Ordered nachos, raspado jamaica and orange refresher. It's okay not the best for the price. The nachos are very basic gas station nachos. The chips they use are yellow circle chips and the cheese is yellow. It would be great if they made the nachos more appealing. The drinks were extremely sweet even tho I said I didn't want too much syrup. The service was good, very friendly cashier. The ambiance is pretty fun, lots to look at. What a great find! Coco Freeze Ice Cream Shop in Indio is awesome. It is located in a slightly run down strip mall with plenty of parking. Coco Freeze would do great anywhere in the valley; including La Quinta and Palm Desert. The decor is off the charts. There is an eclectic assortment of collectibles from past decades, such as cash registers, airplanes and bicycles hanging from the ceiling, malt making machines, tin sign art, and tiki bar items with surfboards. It's a little challenging to figure out what the overall theme is, but it is cool. There is also a bar that overlooks old toys and a flat screen TV. They have a traditional menu above the cash register, but the walls in the entry are covered with colorful hand drawn menu items. The menu is huge and includes traditional ice cream, conchita, churros, ceviche, hot dogs, tamales, spicy Cheetos, and the list goes on. I was feeling adventurous and ordered a scoop of pralines and cream; vanilla ice cream with pralines. It was great. I sat at one of the elevated vandalized tables. These tables are made of wood and have hundreds of etchings on them. It appears someone etched into the wood a long time ago, and people continued with their own etchings making the tables look like they were made to be that way. I would write this review for the new coco freeze location in Coachella (but couldn't find the page for it since they just opened a few weeks ago) So my brother and I went to go check it out today and buy some munchies we were craving and we couldn't help but notice that they have a long ways to go for good quality of what they are serving. I ordered Strawberries with whipped cream and what I got was rotten sour strawberries that had more granola in them then whipped cream, my brother ordered hot Cheetos with nacho cheese and it was like they gave him less than 4oz of hotcheetos in his box, the only thing that was okay was the strawberry shake he ordered. Everything about this place is amazing. It's tucked in a very small shopping center and parking is very limited. So that's kind of a mission is you come in the afternoon when it's busy. I work in customer service and I know how to treat customers and let me assure you I was not treated the way a customer should. This establishment has a menu with set prices that they do not honor. When I told the person behind the register that she had overcharged me she simply replied by saying that the prices had changed and that was an old menu. In this case the person behind the counter (Marlene) has to admit it's their fault for not changing the prices on the menu and return the customer the amount that was charged It was only .50 cents this time but who knows how long this has been going for and how many customers have been ripped off already, including me.
