I was hoping I'd found a black hair care beauty salon closer than Boston... but after getting a perm and style that took 4 and a half hours, a day later my scalp is covered in scabs. I'm more annoyed by this than the fact that every curl in my hair was stuck to my head this morning because my scalp was preemptively bathed in shea butter because she knew I had chemical burns............ So, I'm glad for everyone that this salon works for but I won't be returning. Ridiculous that it's that hard to get your hair done in the state of New Hampshire. read more

Yay! I finally found a beauty salon in New Hampshire that specializes in Black Hair Care! I am an African American woman and I wear my hair naturally. And so, it was of the utmost importance to find a stylist who understood that healthy hair was my first concern; and styling second. Well, Sherryl at CoCo Beauty Salon gave me both. She actually took the time to listen to my concerns and requests, then gave me a number of chemical-free options. The salon is located next to the Verizon Center so it was fairly easy to locate. If your looking for a good hair salon, I suggest you go to Cocp Beauty Salon. The manager there will take care of you really quick. The service there is amazing. The atmosphere is wonderful and customers always seem to come back. I've been looking for a hair salon to relax my hair, but could not find one in my location. As I was about to give up on my hair, my mom recommend me Coco Beauty Salon. She said " There is still hope for your hair, after going to Coco, you'll want to go back again". Someone who knows How to do black hair in New Hampshire is a gift from God. After countless hours of using utterly worthless black hair care search engines, I stumbled on this place. I called to ask if there were any stylists that have been trained in black hair. To which she responded "That's what I DO here." She then explained that she does other hair too, but primarily black hair. Sweet, so at least she will know how to get my hair straight. I'm mixed, wear my hair straight, don't relax my hair, and have about four to five head-full of it all on one head. I have a heck of a time finding stylists who understand how to do my hair, let alone the first thing about keeping it healthy. So needless to say I was extraordinarily apprehensive about this appointment. When I arrived I had a little bit of trouble finding it. It's on the corner of elm and granite, but there is no street sign (only a small sign on the door) and the salon is teeny-tiny. So be sure to write down the address or you will never find it. The salon clearly used to be a hallway that has been converted into "usable space." Despite the cramped quarters it is clean, well maintained and welcoming. My appointment ran late but the stylist was apologetic, which I appreciated. She took the time to speak with me about what I wanted done with my hair, how I wear it, what I do to keep it healthy, why I stopped relaxing my hair, advice on how to keep it straight while I exercise and what would be a versatile cut for me. WOW. And through the entire conversation she actually listened to what I had to say. And then went above and beyond herself to tell me that if I don't like something she was doing to please tell her and she would not be offended. Positives: The cut was appropriate for my face, she constantly asked me what I wanted with my hair (much appreciated) and got every last split end. My hair was properly conditioned and I left with healthy looking hair. Negatives: I have a lot of hair and it usually takes a lot of time to dry and press, however, she had two other customers she was working with at the same time as me which I thought made my appointment much longer than it needed to be. If you have the time for it, then its not a problem, but it actually made me late for meeting my friends. Also I'm not in love with the bangs she cut, although that may just take some getting used to on my end. Overall? I would give 4 stars and I took one off five because I cannot stand it when appointments run late. She does relaxers as well if that is what you are looking for and takes a hard line when it comes to keeping it on for too long. So if you are addicted to keeping the creamy crack on your scalp until all your skin sloughs off then you might want to find another stylist. Otherwise? I recommend it! read more

After months of searching, I found a person who is capable of doing black hair. I must have called all over a few places between MA and NH and asked for a relaxer to be done and every time I called some other place they said" Well come in and let's see what we can do" That was not very settling, needless to say I cancelled those appointments. I have long, complicated hair as I call it. Its an ordeal for me and some stylists. I am very particular about who does my hair as many people are ready to CUT it off. When I called to make an appointment here Sherryl whom I believe is the owner asked many questions regarding my hair. Which was a relief to begin with. We discussed what I was looking to get done and the appointment was set, and most importantly I was planning on keeping it. The day before my appointment she left me a message confirming that I was still coming in which, I liked. The day of she called and asked if I was free I could come in sooner, unfortunately I wasn't able to,but it was nice to know that she keeps up with her appointments. I arrived at the salon, she greeted me, and said she would be right with me. She promptly got started with my appointment on time. She asked about my hair what have I been doing and using, all the while feeling and touching my hair assessing what would need to be done. I like that she engaged in questions about my hair, previously other stylists just dive in and ask what I want and get started without knowing my of my own personal hair care. I liked that Sherryl was engaged and cared enough, I felt that she is passionate and knowledgeable about what she does. At the end of my experience I can say that I was very pleased!!! She even gave me hair care tips and how to manage my hair a little better ( I am not one to manage my hair at all she knew that when I walked in!) I love that she cared so much and did such a great job on exactly what I wanted done. Needless to say, she will be my stylist for as long as I am here in NH. I would recommend anyone looking for some to manage your black hair or any hair to come in and see Sherryl she is worth giving a try. Hey you never know you may learn something about your own hair! The prices vary so I can't speak on that as everyone who comes in have different hair issues or various things they want done to their own hair. I am used to what my hair should cost and she did stay within that range so I was okay with that. I would say her prices are the same as everyone else give or take. read more

Well ...Anna... I think the whole point of reviews is to give insight into an individuals expereince with businesess. OUR (meaning my sister and I) had a bad one. Good for you for having a better experience. I don't need to come on a forum and lie about someone being rude when she clearly was...but again.. I'm glad you had such a pleasant experience. As far as her tore up magazines...my point was that she said she had an ACTUAL hair book with pictures of previous hairsyles SHE had done. That means pictures of hair styles she has done to ACTUAL clients in the past. Maybe you should have read what I wrote before. Sheryl is an artist with hair. Everyone that walked out of her salon had a beautiful style. She knows what she is doing and takes her time on every customer. Worth the drive from Pepperell, MA. While there, she also had a customer who drove from Vermont, because they couldn't find anyone like Sheryl. Beautiful work! read more

I, too, was looking for a hairdresser who could do black hair. I was referred to someone around the corner and I think they referred me to Coco Beauty because I wanted to "restart" my locks. I wasn't skilled in their upkeep and had begun them myself and had a lot of breakage. My goal was to start fresh and continue to wear my hair naturally while making sure my locks were neat and healthy for public appearances. Ms. Sherryl took great care with exceptional products going from cutting my hair back and beginning the locks again to coaxing me try color - organic coloring, by the way which is extremely important to me. She chose the color well. This is where her clear expertise and finesse was apparent because I tried to argue against the color she chose and although my resistance could very well have been taken as an affront, to her skills, she, again, proved her skills by teaching me why the choice was a good one for me. Lastly, as I get older my eyebrows seem to be fading away, but they have a good shape so now I get them colored and waxed at the shop, too. It takes me all day there to get everything done, but I don't mind that. All my life it's taken all day at the salon like back when I got a straightener and rolled up and had to sit under the dryer. There is a lovely atmosphere in the salon and it's refreshing to see how loyal and down-to-earth Ms. Sherryl's customers are. I've literally been stopped in the street here in New Hampshire and other states I travel to by people commenting on how great my locks are. One woman in Mississippi said she'd been looking for a hairdresser who could give her the look I had and I had to tell her it was in New Hampshire of all places! I'm only giving Coco Beauty four stars because I think we all have room to grow in excellence. I'm very happy with Ms. Sherryl's work. Cheers, Sherryl! read more

I have no idea what "Mrs. D" down there is talking about. The hardest thing for a black person in New Hampshire is finding a salon that specializes with their type of hair. I went to Cheryl's salon and had a wonderful experience. I needed my hair relaxed and cut and she did a wonderful job. Cheryl was not rude what so ever. She was very pleasant! So what!
