There are about ten tables and a comfy leather sofa. A shelf with children's books stands near the sofa. A huge mural of Kirklin in early years covers one wall. Evan, our server, was super friendly, welcoming and attentive. We ordered two kolaches. He told us that his mom, Tina, makes the kolaches and pastries and they sell like hot cakes. We took a seat, while he heated our little pies. The kolaches came out super hot and hearty. I loved mine filled with egg, bacon and potatoes. My husband's was filled with a sausage and cheese and made a perfect little breakfast. The coffee is locally roasted. There was a steady stream of patrons stopping for coffee to go. The shop will be moving across the street in Kirklin this week to a larger venue. Evan told us that on Sunday's they serve lunch from 11-2:00 pm. There is generally only one item on the Sunday lunch menu. There is street parking in front of the shop. I highly recommend a visit to this special little shop. They make you feel like family.

Biscuit French toast had great flavor but the texture didn't appeal to me (too dense). Biscuits and gravy were good. Nice sized portion. I was surprised that they didn't have standard simple (classic) syrup for their lattes. Having said that, they did have a nice selection of sugar free syrups. My food and drink were not life-changing nor fabulous. But if you like to keep your business local, give this place a try.

The coffee was good enough, but the biscuit was definitely a nice treat. The staff was friendly as well. Glad we discovered this spot!

I had never eaten a kürtőskalác, but I figured that any dessert that has umlauts and other…read morediacritical marks in the name had to be interesting. So when I saw a sign for kürtőskalács (aka "chimney cakes") while walking around downtown Lafayette, I stopped to see what was what. Lafayette's Kürtőskalács pretty much has one thing and one thing only: chimney cakes. These are a traditional Hungarian/Eastern European pastry made from sweet yeast dough that's wrapped around a tube, baked and rolled in sugar or something else like spices, sprinkles, nuts, coconut, etc. They get the name "chimney cakes" because when the tube is removed from the cake, it steams a little, like a chimney. At Kürtőskalács, you can get your chimney cake filled with sweet things like soft-serve ice cream, Nutella or fruit. They also have savory chimney cakes, like ones that taste like pizza or bacon. When I'm encountering a new food, I typically don't like to make a lot of decisions. I like the person offering me the food to just give it to me prepared the way it's intended. So I told the nice woman behind the counter that I just want whatever is most popular, and she gave me a cinnamon-sugar chimney cake filled with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, topped with whipped cream and strawberries, and drizzled with Nutella. It was very good! I am not the biggest fan of soft-serve ice cream, so that part was lost on me. But for ice cream lovers (especially children), this dessert would be a fun and unique thing to try. The only thing is that it's a tall dessert, and it was served in a tiny cup, so it was hard to eat and got all over my hands. I think if I got another kürtőskalác, I would get it as just the cake itself, empty. This is an option! I figure that ordering just the cake, I could taste it the way it was originally intended. Kürtőskalács specializes in chimney cakes, so the only thing besides chimney cakes that you'll find on the menu is soft-serve ice cream, which you can get in a cup or cone, and a few different beverages. There is some indoor seating but not much, and a few tables outside, which is where I decided to eat my chimney cake.

Great portions and fairly quick for how small the team is. Cabbage rolls are definitely the star here. Get the pork with tomato sauce (traditional). Meaty, the sauce is delicious, and cabbage soft. Much recommended. Pierogi were good. They do have Magi that's put on them. It's a very umami tasting, Worcestershire style sauce. If you're not a fan, I would recommend they put it on the side. But the pierogi themselves were very tasty. Great ratio of filling to the wrapper. Schnitzel was delicious and massive. Just as good as what you'd get in Kraków. Potato pancakes were good. My mother in law didn't like them because she thought they were too greasy, but that's just how they are. They hit the spot. Overall much recommended and a wonderful addition to the area!
