Bummer... been here once before, about 2 months ago, food was yummy then. We just got takeout tonight and it's not even comparable. My vegetarian burrito was ok, edible. Flavor was lacking. I asked for sour cream on the side but it was slapped on top and runny once opened at home. And it had this weird *sprinkle* of wilted lettuce on top of it - the spring mix kind. Scraped that weirdness right off. Bf's supreme burrito (sauce on the side) looked like it was hastily thrown together in a public highschool cafeteria. It wasn't even wrapped like a burrito, it was tucked at two sides, with the ends open, and then contained to the styrofoam. He ended up taking the depressed tortilla off and eating the sad rice and asada on the side. The asada tacos did not taste or look authentic, point blank. Just not good, with a ton of iceberg lettuce. The salsa tasted like V8 with cilantro and onion added after the fact. Also it was in a small side sauce container. If you're like me, and you want a good 1:1 ratio scoop of chip to salsa, it was like 2 good scoops. I need more than 2 scoops of chips and salsa. Come on. The best part of the meal was the guacamole. The weirdest part was picking up the take out. My bf said he went in and the restaurant was pretty empty with only one cook. The owner (we think?) was oversharing to a customer about the business's struggling finances and a recent staff member going on leave. All we're left thinking after this meal is - if they need to save money, start with cutting back on the excess packaging (what was up with all that styrofoam?) and start focusing on reviving the menu and the quality. Probably won't be back which is a bummer. It's the closest Mexican spot to us and we really wanted to love it. read more

Started off with chips and drinks. The water tastes weird which in turn gives a strange taste to the horchata, ice tea, and sodas. For a party of 6 they gave us two small baskets of chips. When we asked for more they said they charge $1.25 so we got 1 more basket which came with more chips then the free basket. Disappointing that more chips at a Mexican Restaurant costs more, but times are tough. The food turned out to be pretty good though and everyone finished their meals. I've eaten at all of the Cochina Michoacana restaurants many times. The 2 in Sonora, the one in Groveland, and the one in Oakdale. (Are there more?) It's not a chain, my understanding is different family members opened each one. But, I've only had 2 dishes there, the pork chimichanga and the steak tacos! I know it sounds stupid, but both dishes are so good... I go in intending to try something new, then when the waiter shows up I get one of the dishes I love. Between the 2, I suggest you try the steak tacos; get the hard shell flour tortilla with the green sauce on the side, then tell me it isn't the best taco ever! I usually get them ala carte so I can eat 3. The only difference between the restaurants is the Groveland one uses a bigger tortilla so its a better value. This place is one of my date night staples. The service is always on point, and the food... THE FOOD. It's always delicious. Seriously, I've never had even a mediocre meal here. It can get pretty busy during dinner time, especially on the weekends, but the restaurant itself is pretty spacious and even has a back room you can section off for larger groups. The food is wonderful! Try the Tacos ahgados (sp). The tortillas are drenched in red enchilada sauce then put on the grill. This really brings out the flavor in the rest of the taco. The staff is super friendly and eager to help if you can't make up your mind. read more

We started eating here after a long period due to service. Had dinner there last night and will never eat there again. They had one of the best veggie quesadilla I have had. Last night they put a red sauce on it for some reason. The red sauce tasted like a cross between a bad marinara sauce and a bad chile sauce which they also used in a chlie colorado. This joint may not look like much, but the food is gosh-darn tasty. We walked in on a whim and ordered the fish tacos, garlic soup, and some kind of garlic cream chicken plate (highly recommend all three!) Very fresh veggies, friendly service, and an endless supply of chips and salsa with your order. Not cheap, but healthy portions so you're sure to walk out full and satisfied! I don't know how many times I've been to this great place! Everything is always kept clean. Service has always been spectacular. Don't even get me started on their food!!! Just amazing! Did not enjoy the experience at all. Salsa was bland and super salty. When we asked for something hotter they brought us out "El Diablo". I made the mistake of putting it on my food without tasting it first! It tasted like I had put heavily salted mushy play-doh on my food. After I filled a clean tortilla, without any sauce, I discovered the food was actually not very good anyway. We paid, left and are looking for another restaurant as I type this. After a nice drive through Sonora Pass we decided to stop here for some food. The service was pleasant. They give you above average portions making the food good value. I had the chimichanga and thought it was very good! I ordered a la carte which was a good decision because I know I wouldn't have been able to eat the beans and rice. I am here weekly if not more for a little over a year now. It's definitely my go to restaurant. I have had most of what's on the menu and I haven't had any issues with my food. It's always consistent I always leave full and have some to take home as well. I usually order the quesadilla suprema you can choose from Chile verde or Chile Colorado. If you haven't tried it I would recommend trying it. The staff is always friendly. They pretty much know what we are gonna order and have our drinks ready when they bring the chips and salsa. For some reason I tend to like this location more than the other. It may look pricey but you can also build your own plate and tweak how you order it. I don't think I ever spend more than $25 that's sometime with having one our kids with us. read more

My husband and I didn't get around to the food, so I cannot review the food. We walked in to this restaurant late in the afternoon (before dinner service) on a weekday. There was one other customer seated at a table. We weren't greeted by a staff member, so we kind of mulled around and looked for a table for ourselves. That's when we noticed that nearly every table was dirty, which led us to notice how dirty the floors were, which led us to notice how dirty the whole dining room was in general.
