At 6 pm, we took her to Update because they are well regarded and available. Two caring vets examined her and performed tests. She had fluid around her lungs and in her abdomen. The fluid in her abdomen was tainted with blood, likely cancer. They recommended compassionate euthanasia. Not expected. We were brought to a special room, and the sweetest thing happened. They said "No dog should go to Heaven without having Chocolate." We were given a Hershey's kiss to feed to Mia. While we cradled her body, she woofed down the chocolate. She had not eaten for three days prior. They had a sign on wall explaining the chocolate treat tradition. "A final treat: Some veterinary clinics keep a jar of "goodbye kisses". The sentiment is that a beloved pet should experience the taste of a forbidden food just before they pass.Emotional comfort: Sharing a special snack offers grieving pet parents a final moment of connection and joy during a painful goodbye." Service from receptionist to doctors was kind and understanding. They were considerate of our emotional state. They presented the situation with compassion. They were great! They even mailed a Sympathy Card with a handwritten note to our home. Highly recommend this veterinary clinic.

I spoke to the vet and I said if we do deductive reasoning, if the steroid was working, and the antibiotic is not one would conclude that this is probably cancer I forget the specifics on how I reasoned with the vet. I went to MY vet the following Monday. The vet at UPSTATE actually noted that it was cancer but they wanted me to spend thousands of dollars to test to see if it was cancer and I said no way. My sweet cat was put down that Monday because he was very sick, cancer.

We know that their health and well-being are the top priority at MAH. Dr. Rice takes as much time as we need to examine our pups, answer our questions, and provide thorough and easy-to-understand assessments, guidance, and suggestions to us. The clinical and support staff here are just as great...and believe me, we put them through their paces. They're not the closest. Their not the fanciest. But they are the best!

We were told dog needed rabies vax. We didn't think so but they said they checked their records and it was needed so they gave her the vax. The vet listened to dog's heart, spoke about ways to deal with elderly dog issues and then left. We got a written prescription at the front desk and discovered the vet only gave dog 2 refills. I asked why and was told it's vet's discretion as to number of refills. (Previous vet gave 6 months of refill.) As this office charges $10 per written script (they will not speak w outside pharmacies by phone) I could see reasoning is most definitely monetary - less refills, more scripts at $10 a pop! When we got home I checked my dog's records and found that she did not need rabies vax yet - a certificate given to us by same vet office showed dog's vax was good til 2027! When I raised this issue to them, they brushed it off as maybe a new computer glitch. No apology, no concern about our dog and no refund offered. This entire outing cost $158.00! Imagine! My recommendation is steer clear! ***update*** - to be fair, a "site leader" from vet center did reach out 2 days later to offer a refund for vax. He also indicated that we should call about refills and perhaps they would be granted and we wouldn't have to bring our dog in to see vet. In my world, this is is damage control - the experience has been upsetting and distasteful!

They did finally agree to give me a refund, but they also missed vaccinations for my other Chihuahua that I had been bringing in regularly for Care. When I asked Dr. Gillette why or how they missed those vaccinations she said she didn't know. Their prices have gone sky high as with every corporate entity. You know this country is capitalistic everything's about making as much money on whatever you can use to make money. I think it's time for me to look around for someone that will give better care and not charge me a mortgage payment to see my dog.
