I had the unfortunate displeasure planning my stay in Pittsburgh at this hotel. Right from the start, I was told that my room (which I paid for in advance) was not paid for because the third-party supplier (booking.com) sent a card that was declined. The man at the front desk said that this has been going on with multiple third-party booking sites (not just booking.com) for several weeks now, and I would have to call them to figure it out. He said we were the third one that day and there'd been five from the night prior. While we were trying to find a number for booking.com (since he was no help in directing us on who to call) he was fielding calls from angry people for the exact same reason. People who had no resolution to the problem were demanding compensation for their purchase. He said that he would be talking to "them" (behind the mysterious door) about it, and someone would come out to speak to me shortly. He was very inconvenienced by me wanting the room that I paid for. After 3 separate calls to booking.com, each about 25 minutes a piece and all in the busy hotel lobby trying not to seem unreasonable or angry, he did not want to send screenshots of the problem he was having on his end to email given by booking. Finally, over an hour and a half of me getting to the hotel after my 4-hour drive, a woman emerged from the mysterious door. I asked if she was the woman I was waiting for. She had no idea I was waiting for anyone. She asked if me and my significant other wanted a water or something to eat while we waited for a resolution. I reiterated that I just wanted a resolution considering I made my payment on my end, and the problem they were having with their vendor was not MY problem. After finding out that I had already paid, she told the man at the front desk to get me a room and they would handle their business with their business partners, Booking.com. The man behind the desk HAD THE NERVE TO PROTEST IT! He then grudgingly had me put a $100 hold on my card for incidentals and $39 for parking and gave me a room key. The story doesn't end there! The next day, a woman was working the desk. After being given a room by the man at the front desk and staff in the back, she explained that the problem was never resolved and I would need to pay an ADDITIONAL $130 dollars because they couldn't conduct business with their third-party booking site. After refusing, the woman said the card on file would be charged either way. So now I'm out $151 from Booking.com, $39 for parking, and $130 double-charge for the night I already paid for in a room that was smaller than it appeared in pictures. At least I know what I'm getting when I book with Marriot.

Additionally, we loved the delicious breakfast variety and fresh fruits. Also, housekeeping keeps the rooms very clean, which enhances the cozy, luxury environment. I got to the hotel around 10AM to check in and the room wasn't ready, which wasn't a problem. I…read morejust worked from the lobby for a couple of hours and then asked if the room was ready, which is was. The lady checking me in was friendly, but didn't seem to care about status as she made no mention of it, which isn't a problem, but she also told me it would cost $50 to check in early. I let her know I was Titanium and she said it didn't matter, they charge this no matter status. I've heard that there was a charge for early check in at other Marriott locations, but not if you're Platinum or higher. Anyway, they upgraded me using suite night rewards, which it's rare for me to be able to actually get, so this was nice to have. The corner king suite I got was really nice looking with beautiful views of the stadium and river. The bathroom is huge too, plenty of room throughout the entire room to spread out! The only issues with the room were they give those small, half size bottles of water in the room and there wasn't too many USB/AC outlets within the room; in fact, the desk area only had a single wall outlet available and nothing else - not very tech-friendly room. The bathroom I had offered a separate shower which was huge, a water closet, and a large soaker tub. Shower worked great and they offered nicely scented hand soap, gel, and shampoo. An issue I experienced in the bathroom was being in the water closet too long and the lights shutting off... in my situation, since I was alone, I never closed the door when in their, but if I was with someone else, the room light sensor is in the main bathroom, near the entry to the bathroom with no switches at all in the water closet. So if the door was closed, you'd be in a dark room in a few minutes when the light decide to shut off - this is a crazy thing for them to overlook when designing the room! On the 14th floor they have their concierge level with lounge. The lounge was only open in the mornings, I think from 6:30AM to around 10AM and they only do breakfast service, but it is a full breakfast with decent looking scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, scones/muffins, breads, juices, fruits, and coffee. I went each morning and got coffee and yogurt. The attendant was friendly. A few times each evening they do some really silly, odd, and annoyingly loud music and light show in the lobby area. They do a light show and crank up the music and it's all choregraphed. The quality of the audio system is terrible, so this light show sounds like it's coming from a 1980's boombox - silly. It was annoying to our group each time and from looking around at others who were also there for business, they weren't impressed either. The common areas of the hotel are grand and gorgeous! The white marble everywhere is stunning too. Definitely a beautiful and historic property! Valet was very friendly, all of them were! They greeted us each time we came through, as well as opened the door to the hotel. The staff was very friendly, the place is beautiful. I'd definitely return here... Nice place to stay!

I repeat, we were 2 couples sharing a room, and there was no surety of privacy in the bathroom. our front door... neither closed, nor opened. hotel doors usually close completely on their own. not this one! you had to force it shut every time, and then... sometimes it wouldn't open from the outside. 2 of us (ladies) had to ask a male stranger staying across from us to help force our door open; the other 2 (men) were fortunate to only struggle when someone was on the inside and able to open it from the inside. there was a hole in the wall where the fire sprinkler was. and the wedding food was easily the worst we've ever had - dry as sand, not a pinch of seasoning (not even salt). hilariously bad. $400 (or so) per night?! laughable.

We parallel parked on the street in front of this hotel where they allow 15 minute parking while checking in. After that, if you have a vehicle, the parking options we were given were pretty astronomically priced. One can valet at this hotel for $45/night, or if one wishes to self-park, the staff here recommended the garage across the street under the US Steel building which they told us would cost up to $35. I'm not a fan of valet, primarily because when I'm ready to leave, I want to be able to get into my vehicle and drive away, rather than waiting for someone else to fetch it, so we opted to self-park at US Steel. That garage happens to be managed by Metropolis and we were charged more than $32 to park for about 2 hours while relaxing before driving to dinner, and then were charged another $32 to park following dinner until we departed for the airport early the next morning - so $64 to park for a few hours in total, which was jaw-droppingly expensive. The front desk staff at this DoubleTree were friendly and welcoming, the warm chocolate chip cookies they offer to guests at check-in at this chain are always appreciated, and we were placed in a mini suite, with a relatively large living area with a couch, chair and large TV, and a separate bedroom with another TV. Contrary to comments I've seen in some other reviews of this hotel, our room appeared to be recently updated and modern-looking, with everything in good repair. The bed and comforter were very comfortable and we both slept well here. While we didn't have much chance to explore the area around this hotel, there was a convenience store attached to it, and the Penguins hockey arena is just a short walk away.

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING SERVICE AND STAFF…read more I came to Pittsburgh for a wedding and ended up at this hotel because my travel partner booked the wrong hotel location (there are two hotel indigos in Pittsburgh). We ended up being 20 minutes driving from the venue instead of 10 minutes walking distance. I was already in a pretty terrible mood. Then, we landed and came in contact with the cyber security issue and everyone's systems were down. This could've made this hotel staff in a bitter mood dealing with angry guests. Instead, they were the NICEST people I have ever come in contact with in a hotel environment; so understanding, helpful, kind, and patient. The room was extremely simple; there is no microwave, no mini fridge, so do not expect to have leftovers for the next day. Breakfast is also not included with the room, which was a bummer. Because of the lack of amenities, this hotel receives 4 stars. We called for support from the front desk twice because our TV was being finicky and we were short on towels (cyber security made us extend our stay, which again, the staff were SO helpful with) and someone was up to our room in less than 5 minutes with help, what we needed, and a smile. The same staff were there my whole stay and were so personable when we arrived and left every time. A couple times, I even made mistakes with checking in or out, asking silly questions, etc. and they never made me feel at fault. If you're in Pittsburgh for a short time and want a place that's away from the crowds, this is a great option!

We've had great experiences with other Hotel Indigos and we were willing to stay a bit outside of the city to stay at this trusting brand, but we were very sorry we did. While the hotel appears decent on the exterior the rooms are anything but clean. Our trip started with arriving to what appeared to be an okay room. The room/hall had a vague scent of mold but that as the least of our worries. When I went to put my water bottle in the fridge I noticed there was a McChicken from a previous guest. The fridge also smelled so it seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Upon further inspection the room had multiple stains on our bedding as seen below. I travel often and I have never been in a hotel room so dirty. The floor had clearly not been swept in between guests as evidenced from a penny and some crumbs found near the trash can. In addition to the dirty interior the bathroom and shower were not cleaned. The shower had hair from a guest that was neither myself or my traveling partner. There were also cracks in the walls throughout the bathroom. In addition to the disgusting room the hotel also employs one person for the Valet. The lines to get your car were consistently long and for $32 per night it really didn't seem worth it. If this were a cheap hotel I would simply say you get what you pay for but it's not. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. While the area surrounding the hotel is decent, the hotel itself is not worth it. You can pay a similar amount for a hotel in a more central location with better cleanliness. The only reason the review is 2 stars instead of 1 is because the AC worked very well and we were visiting during a heat wave. Overall, we will not be returning to this Hotel Indigo.
