We booked a room here in a pinch when our construction job was delayed. From our first interaction with the incredibly accommodating concierge - I think his name is Mike he had a ponytail - to our room we knew we were getting a better experience than we had expected Then we went to the pool. Wow, what a facility! Indoor hot tub, outdoor hot tub, indoor/outdoor pool, men's steam room, women's steam room, rain forest simulation chamber, kids play fountain/kinetic sculpture. The shallow end of the pool has a curtain of water that falls from the ceiling and various fountains/massage jets. For two guys on a multiweek construction project out of town, the aquatic center at Hampton Inn Wheeling was the best surprise either of us can remember lately. HIW had more to offer though. There was a shuttle service that took us to supper, brought us back when we called (and they showed up in about 7 minutes) later, we took the shuttle to the casino We both somehow beat the house for some decent loot. When I checked in, the guy asked me if I had ever been there before. I responded, "not to this location". He said, "oh! Well, welcome to the best one". Lmao. Apparently it actually is because there was a poster near the elevators that indicated that Hampton inn was voted the best in the world. It also won like a best hotel in West Virginia award also. Who knew? Right off the highway, restaurants literally basically just off the edge of the property including, and I would like to highlight, TACO BELL. Room was decently sized, about average. Beds were comfortable. TV was smaller than I have expected recently and I don't recall them having the option of connecting Netflix or any other streaming services which is nice, relying on what is on cable at that particular moment is a drag and I don't know how we did it for so long. Towels were plentiful. Shower was nice. Multiple mirrors arranged in just a way that your partner can watch you on the toilet from the bed if you leave the door open, as we discovered. I stay at this hotel every time I go to wheeling, West Virginia for any kind of event where there may be alcohol involved so that I don't have to drive back to Pittsburgh. The staff is always super friendly and goes above and beyond. I can't speak on how great they are to me and my pup! This time I got there and other people's stuff was still in the room. I called down and they immediately took action to correct it and got me a new room. I honestly can't say enough about this hotel. I stay there every time I'm there-- they have snacks (you pay for) and everything that you could want when you go back. The hotel is also within a mile drive of a Sheetz if you want selections! The main thing is that the hotel has a shuttle to help get you around if you are doing things that involve drinking so you don't have to drive since Uber is not a prominent staple in this area. read more

One of the nicest Hamptons we've ever stayed at! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. My son loved the pool. It really was beautiful. There were two hot tubs, one inside and one outside, a nice comfortable pool, and a splash pad with jets of water coming out of the ground. They also had pool noodles available, which was perfect for my son, who is still learning to swim. I can't say enough nice things about that area! The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. It was quiet and we got a great night of sleep. Breakfast was good- a good amount of options. Give my son sausage and eggs and he is happy. I was surprised that he didn't really finish the waffle, but there were two different kinds of batter. I particularly liked the apple cinnamon. Coffee is always good at the Hampton and it's available in the lobby all day. I also had a tea in the evening, which I appreciated, as well. Great experience. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to I-70, WV RT 2, and is close to downtown Wheeling without being in the downtown area. There's numerous restaurants, both local and chain, in walking distance and a Kroger within sight of the hotel. Staff are very friendly. The hotel staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean and well maintain. There is a sizable eye catching aquarium in the lobby. Even though the hotel sits on National Road, our room was very quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was well stocked and the staff was prompt with refills when items were running low. We didn't get the chance to use the gym or pool because our stay was short but the amenities of this hotel we did use were great. We'd definitely stay again. read more

We found this Hampton Inn, which has multiple awards as the #1 Hampton Inn in the world!!! We were pleasantly surprised. The customer service is exceptional!! We didn't have a reservation for our stay. The front desk was very helpful in securing 2 rooms and a senior discount through AARP. The room was big with a king size bed. The bed had a memory foam mattress. Very comfortable. Night light in the big bathroom and lights on top of the desk molding. It was a quiet hallway. Very clean! The best Hampton i have ever stayed at. Period. It feels like new: every space and corner is clean and unworn. The air is fresh. The room that I got with the extra sofa is spacious and well-supplied. Great General Manager, reception, and kitchen staff, in other words everyone i met. To start at the beginning, some great service and quick technical solutions: We were traveling through, and we like the restaurants and shops of Wheeling, so I reserved here, the so-called "best Hampton in the world". I took that boast with a grain of salt, but the first thing i did was mess up my reservation, and I noticed too late for the third-party site I used to let me change it.and the first thing the friendly guy that answered the hotel phone did was to fix my problem! No fuss, just fix. And i had another complication come up with the Hilton app, and the same guy did some manual entry of my Hilton code, that should have happened automatically and, bingo, another instant fix! And when i checked in, i realized it was the General Manager himself i had spoken with. He's the guy that simply solved my concerns. Nice. At checkin, i wanted that "keyless entry" on my phone, and i had somehow blocked that, and the front desk person solved it just like that. I am a card-carrying geek, so this swift fix and the data one just made my day. No muss, no fuss. And the hotel. It felt new! Not just-built not-quite-ready new, more like everything in place, clean, fresh, welcoming. The room was the location and size i requested, and was a pleasant oasis after a 5-hour drive. We had a lovely restful night. In the morning, the breakfast staff were just great, too! We felt welcome and well-taken care of, we felt like regulars at a favorite restaurant! The food was mostly the usual, mini-omelets, mini-quiche, soft not-runny i.e. perfect oatmeal, all the fixings, of course coffee and juice. Two real breakfast standouts: Travelers take note! The best toaster in any hotel ever! It's the conveyor belt type, and it was fast and toasted perfectly on one pass! You know how important that is! And the cinnamon rolls with a cap of a cream-cheese icing. So big, but so light and airy, aromatic and slightly sweet with perfectly-flavored cinnamon paste so that you can get a bite with and a bite without, then a bite with darling staff saw us leaving just as they were delivered, and she pulled one aside for us! What a treat on out early checkout, and just as delicious when we had the second half later in the drive. Yummmmmmm! I travel several times a year. I stay at Hamptons probably more than ant other specific hotel chain, several times a year. When you see the sign out front that proclaims they are the top guest rated Hampton- believe them. We stayed here one night before we made our way to Oglebay for the subsequent two nights for a wedding. Believe me, we called on Saturday morning asking if there was any availability to return. We traveled in and stayed on a Saturday night at the recommendation of a coworker about the hotel itself and Oglebay's winter lights. Covered parking was available. Aquatic center, 4 stars: a great place to bring children especially in the winter time to swim and hang out in lieu of joining a swim club (and there were plenty of them there during our visit) though it does fill up quickly. Room, 5 stars: We stayed in a Garden Spa Suite (room 123 to be exact) and the features were over the top, including large wraparound sofa in living room, heated wood-look tile bathroom flooring, 3 zone shower heading with steam generator, jetted tub that allowed occupant to view living room tv, and in-ceiling 6 speaker surround sound, including one over the tub. This random Hampton Inn is a hidden gem and amazing value. The management and staff are doing hospitality right and it shows through out! The place is spotless and full of really great amenities that you really don't see at a hotel for this price. There are beautiful outdoor lounge areas with grills and fire pits, plenty of seating and a fountain. The pool area has a decent sized splash pad for the littles and boasts two huge hot tubs plus a large hot steam shower to rinse off the chlorine before heading up to your room. The hotel rooms do not feel cramped, and has a good layout. The hotel has Neutrogena products that are high quality for your stay. There are also restaurants within easy walking distance in the same parking lot or across the street for easy dining. I'm going to go with the consensus of the people and give this Hampton 5 stars. Here are a couple reasons for the five-star rating. Hilton/Hampton offers points for each stay. This in and of itself isn't all that special since lots of chains offer similar programs but still it is a perk. Next the service here was excellent. Upon checking in you are given a couple of complimentary bottles of water and a briefing on the lay of the land. Now here is what really separated this Hampton from others I have stayed at. After checking in we were told they offer a free shuttle within a 5 mile radius up to 2 in the morning. Well since this was a pleasure not business stay topped with the unfamiliarity of Wheeling this was a huge perk! Now we can go to lunch, dinner, and drinks and not worry about driving?! Sign me up! Next the rooms. They are always clean and I appreciate they have a refrigerator and a microwave oven in every room. We also got to check out their pool and spa area. Very nice and clean. Two hot tubs one inside one out. A pool with a waterfall feature, and two steam rooms! Not to mention they had the best gym I've seen compared to their other hotels. Simply put, if you visit Wheeling you should stay here. Seriously just stay here. The employees were great, the rates are definitely in line with their amenities and services and you get a free shuttle. This place is AWESOME! I stayed here years ago with family and totally forgot as I became a Marriott guy. This will be my chosen hotel when back in the area. The staff makes you feel more like you're visiting their home than their job. It was special because at check-in and there were several people in line staff members were almost competing to be nice. As for the cleanliness, the grounds and the hotel it's self, it rivals in the hotel that I've been to. Without a doubt this is the nicest Hampton I have ever stayed in. No water pressure, bath tub didn't drain, maid service only every other day with only one thin towel provided for each person. The bed covers were snagged and thin as paper. The fan on the HVAC blows right on your head all night long. We left with head colds. It's a little funny that this Hampton Inn in Wheeling, WV has 5 stars. We were in between this hotel and a similarly priced one on the Pennsylvania side. The high rating and good reviews definitely reeled us in. I would not say that it is a "great place to stay" and "fun for the whole family" (although I'd like some of whatever they're drinking) but our room was clean and the staff was friendly, which is about all I can ask for when stopping on our frequent trips between Maryland and Indiana. AAA discount brought the price down to about $110/night, not terrible. What would've made this a 5-star instead of a 4-star: a more inclusive (not even necessarily "better") breakfast. Time to start having at least one plant-based milk. The breakfast fee is baked into the price of the hotel, and the only thing we could have was black coffee and oatmeal made with water. Guess that's a heads up, more than a deal-breaker (because as far as we know no 2/3 star hotel has an inclusive breakfast yet). read more

They have an adorable little sitting area with a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen area. They are dog friendly. The breakfast was good too. On our way back to MO, I made sure we stayed again. We stopped in Wheeling on our way to Pittsburgh to celebrate our anniversary and were fortunate to find this awesome hotel! My husband booked the garden suite for less than our average-sized one-bed room in downtown Pittsburgh. The suite is fantastic. I wasn't sure what to think when the front desk staff said they were going to escort us to the room, but it turned out to be necessary. This room has not one but TWO TVs, a surround sound system that allows you to listen to music or TV from the bathroom, a shower that also functions as a steam sauna, a separate whirlpool tub, a full-sized fridge and so much more. The hotel staff walked us through controlling the various systems and then left us alone with the complimentary bottle of champagne placed on ice before our arrival. The only weird thing about the room was that it is at ground level, with the windows facing the outdoor bar area--meaning that with the curtains open, other guests enjoying the fire pit and seating can see directly into your room. We ended up closing the curtains upon our arrival for privacy. The hotel itself also has plenty to offer. We took advantage of the free shuttle service (I believe they'll drive you anywhere within a 5-mile radius) to get to Later Alligator in downtown Wheeling for dinner. A driver dropped us off at the front door, and later picked us up when we called. So convenient! We also had the complimentary breakfast in the lobby in the morning. There was a good selection of hot foods (bacon, eggs, make-your-own waffles) and cold foods (fruit, yogurt, baked goods), better than most free breakfast buffets. Overall, great stay. Rooms are a bit bigger than most other Hamptons and Hiltons we've stayed at and seems like each visit they seem to upgrade/renovate a little bit more. Their attempts at room darkening blinds are appreciated but a bit of a miss - but since usually just the one window not too bad (we stayed at a place with three windows and a crappy view - what's the point except for creating extra nighttime light?). The key to this Hampton as with many others is the staff. Friendly, welcoming and very helpful. In this case we have to single out Hassam. He was great at assisting with our check in and helped make our stay a delight. To sum up. A good solid place to stay with great people. Definitely recommend Hampton Inn Wheeling. read more

Great hotel with amazing shuttle service. If you're coming to the area to go out this is the place to stay

We have stayed here a number of times in the past year. There are a lot of things to like about this location - but, primarily, it comes down to the service. It is exceptional. The staff remembers visitors (Taylor remembered us after a visit three months ago!) and the hotel is well-maintained. Our little one loves the pool area and, while I can't fault some reviewers for being frustrated with the breakfast, it's pretty standard fare amongst the Hampton Inns that I've visited. Is the hotel itself particularly glamorous? Not really, but the rooms are functionally sound and have always been clean. The saltwater fish tank is in good shape and fun for kids (remember when more places had fish tanks?) One thing they have that I haven't seen elsewhere (even at places like the Fairmont in downtown Washington DC) is the way they placed shims along the bottom of the door to the room to block light. Last night we were at a doubletree and spent a fair amount of time wrestling with numerous bath towels trying to block the light from the hallway into the room. The solution they have here is simple, but smart. So, while the hotel may not grace any Travel and Leisure Magazine covers, I'd say it exemplifies the right way to run a hotel in a smaller city.
