Then, without invitation, he launched into heel replacement prices for all four pairs. I never asked for heel replacements. I came for a shine. His response was not only tone-deaf, it was a clear attempt to shift the conversation into something I didn't ask for. Perhaps a poor strategy, or perhaps the result of someone who's lost their love for the craft. Either way, I didn't bite. When I questioned his approach, he snapped, "You don't have to leave your stuff here." I replied calmly, "I won't leave it here if you don't want me to." He waved me away like a nuisance and disappeared into the back. A man who holds no power, grasping at control in the weakest way possible. What truly sealed the impression was the woman at the front.
