Joe is a saint! I brought my favorite bag in to see if he could repair the strap. He was very nice and told me to come back the next day for pickup, & when I returned the next day, he had fixed the strap. The best part was that he only charged me $8! I could go on and on about how much I appreciated him saving my bag, but I'll keep this review short and sweet. He does great work in an efficient amount of time, and he's easy to work with. I'll be back with all my shoes next.

Boot with original toe stitching on the right. Boot with stitching that Joe's "repaired" on the left.

Best shoe repair in town with super reasonable prices. They're understandably busy, so turnaround can be a bit slow. Plan ahead.

Took 6 pairs of shoes here for heel cap replacements and they were quick and my shoes look great! Hero cap replacements are $10.

Brought them by and the gentleman took them, and was super efficient and to the point about what I needed. Gave me a ticket and said they'd call me in a week. They called me in a week, gave me the total and they're great. I was a little surprised that they didn't use black since the rest of the bottom and what was lost was black but not enough to care. Those soles will be black soon enough after trudging through these streets. $18.50 (cash only!) for two heel replacements (he did the other one so that I wouldn't be lopsided) and I'm back walking the streets (uhhhhh, you know what I mean.) Caveat: the place smells of cigarette smoke so if you're very sensitive or allergic you may want to send someone for you. I don't think they smoke inside (it's not smoky) but the gentleman smokes so maybe it's just him? I can't say if my boots smelled when I got them back because they're leather and have been through worse.

I said, "Just a few weeks ago it was $15!" to which she curtly replied, "Well, it isn't anymore." I would hate to see what other services costs if they charge this much for a shine that takes less than 10 minutes! My guess is they want the excuse of lack of business so they can retire. Well, I will do my part in contributing.

But the pull tab on a different pair of boots had come unsewn, and the repairs for that were a disaster. After two attempts, I took the boots and am going to look for another repair shop to fix the atrocious job Village Shoe Repair did. Because of the mixed reviews here and the cost of the Lori Piana boots I needed repaired, I took lots of photos before dropping them off in case they got lost or damaged. This seemed like a simple fix, just open up the back of the boot where the thread came undone, reinsert the pull tab, and resew it in then sew the back up. The first time I picked up the boots, I was rushing to get to a meeting and didn't do a close inspection in the store. It looked like the repaired tab was a little longer than the other one, but I put them on and went to my meeting. As I was walking back to my office, I noticed I was getting a blister on my Achilles where the repair was done. So I took a look, and it was obvious that they tried to sew the pull tab together then just glued it to the top of the boot instead of actually putting it back into the shoe. Not surprisingly, the glue didn't even last a day of walking before the pull tab had fallen out again, which was causing the blister. The next morning--24 hours after I picked them up--I took the shoes back to Village to have them repair their "repair." I explained in detail that they can't just glue it back on, they'd have to open the back and sew it in place. They never apologized, they initially acted like they had no idea who I was and asked where I got the shoes fixed the first time (I thought the guy was joking--he'd literally cashed me out the day before for these exact boots). I just picked them back up from the second repair. First, it took them nearly half an hour to actually find the boots. They have no system of organization. They put shoes in white plastic bags and throw the bags in piles all over the store. It took so long that they kept asking me to come back in an hour. I explained I couldn't do that and would wait, and they seemed annoyed by having to dig through the mountains of shoes to find mine. Second, while they actually did sew the tab in this time, the sewing is sloppy and scratchy, they used white thread instead of brown, they sewed the tab in crooked and off center, and they made it shorter than the other tab. When I pointed out the thread color, they took the boot to the back, PAINTED THE THREAD brown, and brought it back to me. I pointed out the other poor workmanship issues, and the guy said I brought the tab torn so they had to sew it short and crooked. I showed him the pictures I took in my car before walking in to drop off the boots the first time--the photos clearly show the tab intact--and he said "Well why didn't you call the manufacturer about your new boots breaking." Moral of the story, I'll never come back to Village and am posting this to try to save others the hassle. But if you must use this shop, at least don't get leather shoes repaired here. Document the condition of your shoes before leaving them to be repaired. And do a close inspection of the "repairs" in the store before paying or leaving.

Sneakers that I've had for years and have been put through the wringer (I'm talking tailgates, festivals, etc) came back looking brand new! I have once again been kicking rocks in them, so they're due for another round of TLC, but I truly didn't think that my "white" Converse would ever be white again, and let me tell you, they looked like they came right out of the box. I didn't get my purses cleaned, just some strap repair and those are holding on strong. I don' t feel like they integrity of my bags were compromised in any way and they feel secure. My sandals also came out great, but one pair does need the strap re-tightened already. Overall, I'm still very satisfied with the work. To say out of all of the items that needed repair, only one pair needs an adjustment I think is pretty good. I will say that I'm not sure how many opportunities he's had to do work on other items besides sneakers and tennis shoes, so if this is the quality that we get now, I can only imagine how it will improve with more experience. Definitely worth checking out if you'd like to get some more time with your loved on shoes and bags. Micah is very communicative about when your items will be ready and super accommodating in getting them back to you by offering a drop-off service. Many thanks to the Yelper that reminded me that I hadn't posted my update!
