so I bought a mother of the bride, dress from China and actually the quality was really really good. However I bought it like three sizes bigger because they tend to make clothes smaller. That being said it was actually three sizes too big and Santos custom tailoring fit it to me perfectly. it was done in time and with love. The customer service was terrible. We waited over 10 minutes to be helped in an empty store. The prices are way out of line. They wanted to charge 50 dollars to helm and lift a girls school jumper. On top of that they tried to charge 8 dollars for credit card use. That's seems excessive. read more

Note: As one other customer noted you have to really try to get me to take the time to write a review, especially a bad one. But while packing tonight for an important trip where I will need a suit, I discovered that the coat to my suit should have been taken in. Something a tailor who knows what he is doing would have seen and reccomended. Admittedly, I must have done a bad job doing the tailor's job helping him assess how the suit looked on me, so I guess it's my fault that I am leaving for an important trip on Tuesday and I am scrambling to find a tailor to fix the various mistakes this gentleman at Mr. Santos made. I became a customer of Mr. Santos about 30 years ago, Mr. Santos was the grandfather of the young man now marking the clothes and running the front desk. They have 4 out of 5 stars out of 41 reviews so obviously there are some people whose experience was better than mine, which over a month's time went from bad to worse. The young man at the front desk, whose name I forget, should not be marking clothes to prep them for alteration. When I put a suit on to be altered, don't ask me "how do you want your pants waist"? I don't know. I want it to fit. You're the tailor. So, even after trying to tell him how to mark for taking in the waist, it was too big on the first try. My first trip back was when I had hoped to pick up all the work I brought, for which I ultimately paid $160. Work to be done: *Dress shirt: shorten the sleeves. They got that right on the first try. * Sports coat. Repair the lining of the left sleeve which is coming loose. They did some other repair I didn't ask for and forgot to fix the sleeve I had showed them. *Suit pants: Already mentioned this. Waist was too big so I would pick-up the re-do on the second trip back. *Repair a hole in the suit coat. On this I say 3 star rating because *possibly* what they did was the best it could be repaired. *Repair the hem on a pants leg. (they got this right the firts time and I decided to bring a second pair upon returning. 2nd trip: I had taken home what was completed on my first trip. Now on the 2nd trip I went to pay and took out my credit card at which point for the first time I was informed that they only took cash. At some point by my third trip back, they put a scribbled paper sign on the wall with your back to it when you are standing at the desk facing the door. When not put a little sign on the desk that every customer walks up to? As I said I was prepared to pay, but did not know they would not take a credit card. Realizing that I had already taken some work home and for some reason deciding I was a bad risk the young man said "Listen, I don't know when I'll see you again (read: you might skip out and abandon ~$400 worth of garments). "So, could you go off and get cash and come back and pay me since I don't know if I'll see you again." In shock, I told the guy that I would leave with him what he had already completed if he felt he needed collateral (I've been coming here for 30 years) and pay for everying in CASH as required when I return. On the 3rd trip the waist finally fit. As I mentioned above, in the original hurried fitting, we, (I guess "we") missed that the suit coat needed to be taken in and so now I am trying to find a tailor to do that, start over and pay more money than I probably would have if everything had been done at one time. In closing, I think that all mistakes could be forgiven if this young man, who has no idea what he is doing with tailoring OR dealing with customers had not insulted me by insinuating that I might actually abadon my tailor work and skip out on a bill of $160. read more

I found out about this establishment here on Yelp and decided to bring in a few garments to be tailored. What a mistake. My initial visit was a Tuesday morning around 10am and they were quite busy, but Peter was attentive during my fitting. I brought in two dresses, two tops and a pair of trousers. After the fitting, I was told that I'd get call once the pieces were ready, but I didn't receive one. So the following week, 10 days later, I called the shop a few times on the Friday my clothes were due, but no one answered. Assuming that maybe they were too busy to call, I drove over there to pick up my clothes. Turns out, my clothes hadn't even been touched. Peter apologized, and asked if I could return later that day to retrieve everything, being that I needed these pieces for a photoshoot on Sunday. Once again, I was told someone would call and guess what, never happened. The next morning I returned, tried everything on. I was content with how the garments came out. For the work on all 5 pieces, my total came out to $110. Paid in cash, because oh yeah, they don't take cards, and failed to inform me before hand. I was so happy to have my garments back to me I didn't even realize until later in the day that one of the tops I brought in were missing. I know and understand that these mistakes happen. However, after going back and forth with this place, I learned that they gave away my top to someone that allegedly took my shirt out of town and that person would have to return it the next time they came to New Orleans. It has now been almost a month since my initial visit, and two weeks since I was told that they would call and deliver my property they lost. I was literally told that 'at least it wasn't one of the better quality shirts'. Completely out of line. And offering to deliver for my convenience but not actually following through because I'm on the Westbank? The lack of professionalism here was like a slap in the face. When the owner handed me the finished item all seemed okay, but once I hung it on a hanger at home, 3 of the 4 patches were not straight or centered as requested. They have an Instagram which gives lots of info to times they are open and they leave a voicemail which typically gives info as well. I had high hopes for this establishment, but unfortunately they did not even meet my expectations. Based on previous reviews, I decided to give this business a chance. I had a bridesmaids gown that I needed to get hemmed. I left my dress there after I was told that they would be able to do it, and scheduled to have it picked up nine (9) days later. Before I left, I was informed that someone would call me with a quote. As strange as I thought that was, I didn't question it because this was my first time letting them service me. Fast forward to nine (9) days later, I still never received a call from anyone at the establishment. So I called on the day I had originally scheduled to pick up my gown to check the status of the requested service. When I spoke with the employee or the owner via phone it was clear that the requested service was not rendered for me. Which I still wasn't too concerned about because I knew I only needed a hem. So once the employee or owner located my dress and confirmed that I still had intentions on retrieving it on the original scheduled date, I was told that he was going to retrieve a quote and call me back. Well, when I did get a call back moments later I was quoted $140!!! Yes, $140 just to hem my gown. Of course I found that to be outrageous because other ladies with the same dress in this bridal party have gone to their local seamstresses, needed more alterations done to their gowns , and were charged no more than $80. I write this review not only because the prices are ridiculously high, but because this was a huge inconvenience to me. Had I received a quote for $140 the day of bringing my gown to them, or even the day after, I would have gladly taken my business elsewhere to get the work I needed done within a timely manner. Nine (9) days went to waste, and my event is days away. I gave two stars because someone did apologize for not giving me a call with my quote sooner, but in this case it was just not enough. read more
