The blueberry lavender jam is AMAZING. SO SO GOOD. I highly recommend. Great on pancakes on French toast on ice cream or just on bread.

Our annual Christmas tree hunt goes not farther than Schilter Family Farm…read more The Thanksgiving week end usually slams this tree farm. However, we always find a quality Noble fir if even we have to hunt a bit. This year was REALLY unusual. The Monday after T Day we went with the idea we'd have to spend time searching. The most helpful young man pointed us to a new field of Nobles. And there, no more than 10 feet in from the path was IT (visions of Clark Griswold!). There were countless more even after that Turkey Day rush. The same man came by in his tractor and asked if he could cut it down for us. He had a chain saw. I had a hand saw. No brainer!! The service and selection are first class. Topping this off is the gift shop, where you pay, has all sorts of Christmas related things, including fresh wreaths (which we bought)

Definitely deserving of a spot in the top 10 pumpkin patches in Washington!…read more I've been going to pumpkin patches almost yearly since I was 4 so I consider myself somewhat of an expert. Here's my highs and lows and good enoughs: 5 Stars to: -Plenty of Photo setup spots -Apple cider slush sundae -FRESH & HOT Roasted Corn -Many adult AND kid friendly activities -pumpkin assortment 1 Star for: -No back up generator (Power went out while at the farm and the poor animals were huddled up closer than the people were) -flavorless burgers 2.5 stars (aka good enough) for: -cold apple cider donuts -friendly but antisocial staff -gift shop (Felt more like a very small, 'small business' fair) I think the ticket price was a decent value for what was available!

A neighbor actually suggested this place and coming in the morning during the week was really a great idea. We got here shortly after 10am and that was the perfect time to come, there was only one other family picking blueberries and plenty of bushes to give us space. When you get here you pick out a bucket (freshly sanitized) and then you walk down to the blueberry bushes where you can pick blueberries until your heart is happy and bucket is full. Then you walk back up to where you parked and give the people working your bucket with all your pickings, they weigh it and you pay. FYI I'm glad I looked before coming but it's cash only so come prepared and please when you're around others make sure to have your mask. It's easy, fun and gives the kids some sort of summer memories even with covid going on. And let me tell you these blueberries from here are delicious.

The Bad- Not sure about sanitization of buckets, bags, money box, sign-in area. Sanitizer is available, but with no one there when you weigh/come in, hard to say for sure everything has been cleaned to avoid COVID. The Ugly- Some nice size garter snakes, just be aware, especially if you have kids. A bit overgrown in between rows, a little hard for smaller toddlers to walk around. The Skinny- Wonderful small farm and I would go back in a heartbeat. Nice location and would choose this Organic farm any day over others.

Mom put a bowl in a bag so she could go hands free as she picked the berries. Unfortunately we were too early, as there were some berries that were ripe, but they were all very small, maybe the size of peas. We made note and plan to come back at the end of August to let things ripen a bit. Mom only got a handful of berries, but we'll probably put them in a smoothie or on a parfait.

Boasting 5 different varieties of blueberry over 20 acres, if you're willing to take the time you can end up with quite the bounty! As I write this the blueberries aren't quite ready to go, but they're mostly definitely working on it and will be delicious in the very near future. There's a ton of space so there's room for everyone. Bonus points if you're petite - some of the bushes are pretty close together and you just know that's where all the ultra-plump berries will be hiding! There's also a small community garden and playground on site if your kiddos need to burn some energy. Easy street parking. The area looks and feels a little iffy, but likely perfectly fine during the day.

The farm is easy to find. Just follow the directions to the Puyallup stand and the U-pick field is right across the street. There's an outhouse behind the stand if you need a restroom. Otherwise, head straight to the U-pick area, where there's plenty of parking. The check-in is at a small white tent, where they provide cardboard boxes for picking. I went on a Saturday morning. They opened at 9 AM and charged $4.10 per pound. What I really like about this farm is how organized it is. Staff will direct you to a specific row of plants, and you'll use a flag to mark where you stopped picking. It was easy to find plenty of ripe strawberries and we filled two boxes quickly. It's hard to judge the weight by sight, but each box was probably about 7.5 pounds, since the total came to around $60. Two key tips: 1. Check their Facebook page for up-to-date hours and availability, since they change with the weather. 2. Bring cash or a personal check because they don't accept credit cards.
