This free discovery center across from the Children's Museum was a lot of fun, and educational. They have a scavenger hunt for the kids to do to help them learn more about water, and they get a prize once they finish it. They have a small free lot for parking which is nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful when the kids needed a hint about one of the questions on the scavenger hunt. read more

This place makes a great stop off if you happen to be next door at the Children's Museum or at some other location nearby. It might be better for older, science oriented kids, but adults will likely find it interesting as well. It's free and all they ask you do is provide some info about how many people are in your party and the zip code you are visiting from. It's a good rainy day activity and can provide some educational moments. There is an interactive scavenger hunt which involves doing 8 tasks and ends with the ability to choose a prize. The maze pen we won is pretty cool. My 10 year old nephew was easily able to complete all the tasks and seemed to enjoy doing it. Some things were like video games, which he seemed to like and maybe it will give him some ideas about career possibilities for the future. It was a good learning opportunity about the importance of saving water and learning about what happens to all the water we waste, etc. I wish I lived in Olympia and was able to trace where the water goes when I flush the toilet. It was nice that they ask you to share what you learn when you go to redeem your prize. I'm not sure if my 8 year old niece would have found it as interesting, but there are places to sit and some kitchen toys to play with if not. It looks like they also have some crafts available. Great little science center for children! We visited on Tardigrade day and my son had a great time. They offer a clipboard for a scavenger hunt and kids can win a prize (pencil, magnet, or sticker) after completion. There's a lot of hands on areas, so if you have a tactile little one, they'll love this. The enclosed classroom area had instructors available to answer questions and walkthrough the different crafts available. My son loved looking through the microscope to find microorganisms and the instructor was very patient answering all of his questions. Expect to spend at least 1-2hrs here. Keep in mind that online registration is still required to visit. There is very affordable paid parking nearby. read more

I'm still going once a week with my kids. It's free, it's fun, and it's handicap accessible. My oldest loves the games and is currently addicted to plant identification at the WET Science center plaza. In addition to all of the exhibits and games, there are also two scavenger hunts available. One for older kids (or adults if you feel like taking it) and one for young kids. My kids love the scavenger hunt! We haven't been able to go for the Saturday arts and crafts for a while. We HIGHLY recommend the Saturday activities if you are able to go! read more

I love taking my 4 year old to the WET Science center. At first I was worried that she may not be into the activities but within about 5 seconds of entering the building I realized that this is the best place to go to learn about water treatment and interact with various experiments. My little one learns something different every time we go. Some days she wants to play this game and then the next time we go she has a different game to keep her interested. There are so many things to do that we can easily spend 30 minutes learning about water usage. I'm not sure she knows how much she's learning but I notice it when she uses less water when brushing her teeth and doesn't want the tub filled too high. Since this is right next to the Childrens Museum (and its FREE!!) this is a great place to take the kiddos when you're in the area. read more

This place is fun. This place is educational. And this place is FREE. Free!!! We've been to the children's museum many times but never ventured over here. Having seen an event on Facebook I decided to bring my kiddo by. She loved it. First of all, we were greeted by a super peppy young fella who gave us a run down of the facility and the day's activities. The interactive displays are simply amazing. My kiddo was so mesmerized by all of it. She loved reading the signs and pushing allllllllll the buttons. If it wasn't for the art activities she would've stayed all day. The art room!!! The sweet gal working in there was so patient with the children swarming around her. She explained each activity available and then assisted each child in getting set up. One star is lost because of the group of rude people who cut us off at the door and took over the art room to eat their lunch. I was really confused... Was this a birthday party or what?!? There was a sign on the door that stated no food was allowed and then that happened. The themed art activities are really great so I'm sure we will return. read more

A fun, FREE little museum. Well worth the stop. Probably best for kids ages grade school and up, but my three-year-old enjoyed it as much as my first grader. Very interactive and interesting, this museum teaches kids about water treatment and conservation. Be sure to check out the lab for rotating activities and do the scavenger hunt to collect a cool prize. read more

What a cool place that is so perfectly tailored to the toddler age!! We loved visiting and hope to come back again! The price was reasonable, the toys were as clean as can be expected, staff was friendly, the exhibits were challenging, interactive, and so much fun for my 2 1/2 year old. I can see kids from ages 18 months to 6 years old getting lots out of this place!! It was also awesome to see that they offered special classes and camps to foster the parent/child bond! read more

The WET Science Center is a great place to take your kids (not too young, more like 1st grade and up) on the weekend or during the week. The place is in the East Bay area which is being revitalized (new Hands-On Children's Museum, East Bay Plaza, and artificial wet lands coming soon). The building is stunning (and LEAD Certified Platinum) and filled with fun hands-on educational exhibits that teach about water conservation and the water treatment process (from sewer water to clean water). Every Saturday they have fun activities in the classroom--usually arts and crafts. The outside grounds are beautiful, with a large water feature and mote surrounding the entrances and the new wet lands are attached (but don't open until June 2012). This place is not just fun for kids, adults can have just as much fun learning about the wastewater treatment process and doing the activities, too. If you're lucky, you'll go on a day when they are giving tours of the treatment plant; it's smelly, but very interesting. Everything is FREE, you don't even have to pay to do the Saturday activities in which you are always able to take home something cool you made. Definitely go. You have nothing to lose and lots of knowledge and fun to gain. read more
