I visited this place for the first time because of my friend. She was going to school here and needed a model. I got a haircut and hair dye. She was a student, but there is an instructor there helping her through the process so I felt really comfortable. The price was really affordable and everybody was really friendly. read more

For educational purposes. Stop here and MOVE ON to the next school. This school wasted two weeks of my time, kept my deposit and kicked me out on a false excuse THEY made up about my FA all because I didn't "fit in" But it was all a blessing because I was able to attend a REAL school and got licensed on my first try. AS FAR AS SERVICES, just pay attention there's no cleaning regulations being enforced. The staff....the staff is all just a hot mess a bunch of customer service representatives with no real experience on the field. sign anything here go tour the next school first. read more

$15 for a women's cut turned out great! It even comes with a wash which is always such a pleasant experience. It's an extra $10 to dry hair which I opted out of. There's a teacher or instructor walking around to check the students work so I was very comfortable. Granted, mine was just a 2 inch trim so it was simple. I'd recommend to come here for simple trims/cuts! read more

I used to love coming here as part of my self-care days but as of late it's been very disorganized. Theres a lack of professionalism. And if you don't wanna waste your time, I recommend going somewhere else. I always call in advance to schedule an appointment and the past two times they were fully booked, which I understand but this was my last straw today. I called again to make an appointment and she asked me what time do I want to come in and I said what time are available? I'm only 20 minutes away and she said ok then just walk in and someone will take care of you when you come in. I come in 20 minutes after that phone call and they say that they're fully booked for the whole day and that someone came in before me so first of all why would you even ask me what time I wanna get my facial done if there's no times available for that whole day except that one timeslot that the person who showed up five minutes before me got. Second of all why didn't you take my name down or finish the reservation like I called to do. I was speaking with the Director and expressed my frustrations because this was my third time I wanted to get a facial and she said that there's no one else who can do my facial and that she knows the exact amount of students that she has didn't apologize for anything and laughed when I walked out. So why when she answered the phone didn't she tell me that there was only one time slot and if I'm calling to make an appointment, why wouldn't you just reserve me for that one time slot if there's only one left in the whole day? Didn't like the vibe or energy from that interaction especially cause I've tried to book an appointment 2 other times earlier last week. What's unfortunate is that the students have always been great, I can't say the same for the leadership. read more

I walked in the other day expecting to get my hair done. I literally waited at the front desk waiting for someone to come up and ask if I needed help for 25 min. After 25 min of NO HELP! I walked out. read more

Attend at your own risk here is why.... I hope more students can come forward on what their experience is/was. -cosmology teacher: very emotional person. I was warned about her when I first started; Don't ask her too many questions and if you do be nice about it. Because she will start picking on you. If you don't know something, look it up on YouTube. Don't question her. I later found out all this was true. When you try to talk to her she will just start to cry. One student is on leave because she couldn't take it anymore. If you ask her a question she gets frustrated, because you are suppose to know. She talks about student in her class with other students. Then she talks to the night teacher in front of her students before the students even leave. One day she told a few students the class was acting like a zoo, calling us animals. I started to take other students advice and just learn from YouTube when I have questions, or don't understand something. One day her "favorite" student and another student got into an argument. The teacher said that even-though her favorite student threatened the other one. "She did nothing wrong." administration -countless students have complained to administrators and nothing gets done. Now she's on "leave" and even after everything hit the fan one of the administrators left. They are still going to welcome back the teacher and told the student that was threatened, she couldn't come back to morning classes. In case the teacher decided to come back. They don't want to make THE TEACHER uncomfortable. Even after she condoned violence towards another student she is still coming back and the student can't return. This is why other students are afraid to say things against the school. Another student was expelled without any notice. Because they didn't want him to complain to VA first. The teacher is back and also her "favorite" student. The kicked out the other student but welcomed back the one who threatened to "beat up" the other student. I have video of this as well. Not enough space to give more examples. read more

WARNING!!! DO NOT JOIN THIS ACADEMY. - The lack of experience in the office has delayed me from continuing my education to become a Barber. The "new" Director of Education Francine has zero experience and control in the classrooms. Please look at the open container students are now allowed to consume during class time. Education has gone down the drain. The Financial Aid office is so disorganized and upper management Michelle has no knowledge to help. The only excuse I keep getting from Francine is "the system is down" Instructors don't teach and allow students to be inside the school under the influence. Not a safe environment for clients to get services. Again, DO NOT ATTEND OR GET SERVICES AT THIS DISORGANIZED ENVIRONMENT. read more

Visit this beautiful place yesterday for my haircut, it was not busy and they were quick to assign a student barber. He was patient and seemed eager to learn as his instructor was working on my haircut and showing him step by step. Haircut came out really good, only thing i would change is their sharp trimmers. Overall good experience and I would try again in future. read more

If you are considering coming to this school, please read on before you spend your money and/or waste your time. I want to preface by saying that I am writing this review as objectively as possible. I don't believe my experience is unique, you can check out some of the other negative reviews and most of them are spot on. I'd ignore the review by Stephanie Perez from 8 months ago. She is a former Esthetician instructor that had no clue how or what it meant to neutralize a chemical treatment or unfamiliar with theory terminology, often googling it while class was in session. For the first 2 to 3 months of my esthetician program, she lacked experience, knowledge, or confidence to properly manage a classroom or the curriculum. The burden was put on the students to "learn on your own," we learned from each other or watched YouTube videos. We also did not have steam machines available to use! Eventually, Miss Stephanie left the school. My second instructor, Miss Diana, was very proactive with keeping students engaged in both theory and practical aspects of the esthetician curriculum. Under her tenure, I learned so much about chemical treatments, proper use of equipment/devices, brow mapping/shaping, disinfestation and sanitation, etc. Sadly, after about 3 months, the school fired her with no explanation. As of the positing of this review, I have been without an instructor for 2.5 weeks with no permanency in the unforeseeable future. One of the administrators stepped-in to substitute and unfortunately our hands-on activities has been greatly reduced. Within a 6 month program, I've had 2 instructors and a possible 3rd, that should tell you all you have to know. Overall, this school should lose their accreditation status with the NACCAS, they have shady business practices. My time here has been stressful, dysfunctional, and exhausting. It has been hard to stay motivated and focused. They do not teach the latest techniques like Brazilian waxing; I HAD to take a supplemental full body & Brazilian waxing course because I was NOT learning any waxing techniques that would help me be confident and trade ready. I've taken other courses as well such as; lashing, brow design, etc. My advice, do your due diligence and research your school options. If you get a tour, you'll only see what THEY want you to see. Be prepared with questions, talk to the students, and ask them for their feedback (without the presence of administators, so you get honest feedback). Best of luck! read more

I went in to get my hair cut and Lupe helped me. She was very nice and did did such an amazing job. I absolutely love the way she shampooed and conditioned my hair. I'll probably go back just for a shampoo it was that amazing. Lupe is very precise and detailed when cutting hair and she made me feel so beautiful when I left. I asked Luke how long she had been doing this and she said for about a year. My overall experience at Coba was amazing, starting with Karen, Lupe and finally Wendy. All of the students are so nice and from what I observed, they treat each other like family and I felt so comfortable while getting my hair cut. This is an amazing place so please give it a try! read more

COBA Academy - New haircut - Hair Salons Near Me - Anaheim, California

Would give this place -5 stars if possible. Made an appointment for a balayage touch up (I have been getting balayages for 4+ years). I sat in there for over 6.5 hours and got these results. They completely messed up the color and missed a HUGE section on the back of my head. I left with my roots on the sides looking like a pumpkin but also half of my head still black. I provided them with multiple target photos and explained thoroughly that I wanted a caramel brown color. They gave me bright yellow/orange chunks of hair that were not blended through whatsoever. I just wanted to get out of there after almost 7 hours. Was not going to sit there any longer for them to "fix it" or mess it up anymore. The head instructor, Ms. Mindy, was extremely rude and I felt very bad for the students working on my hair. The students had great ideas and a great approach but they sacrificed their thoughts for what she told them to do. I am positive that she is the reason that the entire crown of my head is still black. She is so headstrong and does not listen to the client nor allow her students to have input. She would also constantly walk to the side and whisper to other people about me/my hair, which was rude and off-putting. The only good part about coming here was the students that worked on my hair. I could tell that they were trying very hard and that they knew what they were doing for the most part. They were great to talk to as well. I hope that they are able to graduate and leave this place as soon as they can or find a better beauty school! read more

It is impossible to sugar coat the fact that this academy isn't up to par. I cant neglect the fact that this academy cant provide good services. Bree is disrespectful and unprofessional. Should you decide to visit this academy, i would think twice. Michelle and Francine don't know how to support the team. The front desk receptionist was given guidance to call the owner and no one came to assist. But yet, Michelle neglected to provide help. DO NOT GET ANY SERVICES AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

UPDATE 04/17/2008:... I recently graduated from COBA and all that I can say is that I am happy that I did it. So I am revising my review. They offer many services at COBA. They cut hair, color, mani/pedis, facials both plain and European facials, make-up, updo's, shampoo sets, press and curl, scalp treatments, waxing, all thermal services (example blow-outs or a flat iron), deep conditioning treatments. extensions, oh and little girl birthday parties where the students make your child and her gang look cute with curls and polish and glitter....... We do all that here.. . So, if you are willing to let trained supervised students work on you for dirt cheap prices then stop by... Or if you are curious about a new career in the beauty industry and you want to do hair then you should check out the school.... COBA has the highest passing rate for state board.... Miss Rosio is the mock board instructor for the day students and all that I can say is that I learned a lot from her. She was very helpful and on you to do your best... You should totally come here if you are thinking about getting into the cosmetology field. I am sure that you would love doing the pedicure's.. Especially those on little old ladies or little old men on senior discount day...... check out the website COBA is located in the Orange Circle in the city of Orange.. A charming little area with tons of places to eat and shop.. So, if you are looking to just get a hair cut or highlights and shop and dine around the circle then you should stop by.. read more

So I did the esthetics program at COBA and it was the best experience! Not only did I have an AMAZING teacher (Ms. Francine) but I also became friends with so many students! You get one on one training on facial machines, facial techniques, waxing, makeup... Another thing I'm really grateful for is that we practiced and went over state board a lot! And it totally helped me pass my state board exam! If you're looking to become an esthetician COBA is the place to go! (The whole staff is there to help you and are willing to go the extra mile to do so!) read more

These are students Seth did a wonderful job i cant stop running my fingers through my own hair

I've known Christina Sanchez for a long time.. I was in Orange County and decided to stop by and visit Christina.. She hooked my lifeless fine hair up.. I'm hot and all but she made me HOTTER!!!!! I just wanted a trim and long layers.... She gave me exactly what I wanted..... My hair cut rocks and I am not just saying this because we are friends.. I'm pretty cut throat.. She also styled my mother's hair.... I didn't know that you could curl hair with a flat iron.... Christina gave my mother some sexy hair! Oh, shes is graduating in one week.... So, if you want a cheap haircut ($10) by Christina you should go!!! She's the tall chick with nice boobs! (I'm straight) and she has a rad personality..... About the school... It's an old building located in the city of Orange.. In the Old Town Orange Circle.. Tons of cute shops and places to eat.... Congrats Christina for nearing your completion of those annoyingly long 1600 hours!! read more

This review is for Patron service/Hair conditioning only: compared to my other experience w/ the other beauty school: 1+ star: appt was written down and actually acknowledged.. wow... I know, my standard is low after horrible exp 1+ parking is not that bad 1 - whatever they are using for the "deep conditioning" was either EXPIRED or CHEAP. My hair was sticky and hard coming out. Never seen it like that. 1+/-?? sometimes the students will dry your hair w/ conditioning, sometimes they don't. 1 - students majority seemed to be playin with own hair and not doing anything while I still had to wait 20 min for my appt 1 - the other place used "Enjoy" brand, and my hair came out normal. Note: DONT use their NAIL or FACIAL service. My cousin said it was not sanitary/SAFE, and thought she might got infection for this place. read more

Regardless of some of these customer reviews, the school was consistently pouring in with happy regulars! And even when they were first timers at COBA, I can honestly say that I never had a bad experience with a client! Solely because the night teachers made sure the client's needs were met and were honest if the desired result was attainable or not. I am absolutely thrilled that I attended COBA's night program! I went to my state board exam with confidence and passed with ease because of how thorough the program is here. The night teachers are very knowledgeable about the industry and were always approachable. I felt at ease knowing that I could ask my teachers anything I desired to know about hair. Miss Mia is an amazing mentor and if she wasn't a teacher here, I honestly don't think I would've been half as happy with attending COBA. I absolutely loved her way of teaching. She would explain procedures in a way that was easy for us to understand and retain. Also, I never felt nothing short of confident before working on a client, because Miss Mia would always tell you, "Sink or swim!" I loved it! Miss Noelia, who is no longer there but was our freshman and mock board instructor. She was incredibly thorough in explaining State Board procedures and helping us with areas that needed help the most. She was a great teacher to have as well! Because of her, I felt completely confident at State Board. Even after I graduated, I have been able to come back to school and ask any questions I have about the field of beauty, including job leads and such. Currently they are going under some remodeling and renovation and will be offering further education to graduate students, which I think is critical to any cosmetologist's career! The environment here was no where near pretentious, which made it a great place to learn and thrive! And the location? Who doesn't love Old Towne Orange? read more

I came here as I read multiple reviews but honestly they were way off, and not accurate. I brought a friend that wanted a perm and this was not worth it at all. The price was good but the service was bad. Here is a list of issues: (1) Long Wait - 6 hours +. It took over 6 hours to get the perm done at that was with 2 students working on her hair and a teacher. Wow! (2) Customer Service = No Service. We had named Theresa who was helpful but she had to leave and then another teacher named Anna took over. Anna was in such a rush, and cut so many corners that my friends hairdo came out with curls that were not completed, and coloring half done. (3) Student. We had a student who had no name-tag and was not ready for prime time and should not have been working on hair. They even ran out of chemicals and had to run to the store. Wow! (4) Yelp Check in Discount. They have this posted when you walk in, but the way they phrase it verbally is as if you have to post a positive review to get the discount. They have wording on a sign that says you have to show them your review and check in from your phone in order to get the onsite discount. Nope I didnt want that discount as I wanted to post a honest review. Sorry but I dont recommend this place at all until management and the teachers get thier act together. read more

Miss Anna- Is extraordinary!!! Can you say service with a smile. She spoke to me about the services I was enquiring about upon arrival, I felt so welcomed there. I showed her pictures and explained how I wanted my new look. Of course we come because the services are less expensive, however I really felt the enjoyment of the salon experience. All the girls going to school are very lucky and will be successful due to Miss Anna. Thank you Coba read more

Where do I begin?! But to sum it up this place is a mess. Who would've thought you'd be lucky to come to school and class everyday and have a teacher? I think I would need more than one hand to count the number of times there was no teacher and class was just canceled yet we somehow still got our hours. Who is really benefiting from that? I know it's not the students..... but definitely the school so they can keep their doors open. This place seems so disorganized starting all the way from the top management with the VP. Never seen such an unprofessional and uninvolved Vice President before. Not to mention changes in employees in departments or even missing departments. There is a new director of education from one day to the next and there's like no real financial aid department. Seems no one is qualified they just filling in empty spots at this point. It's just one disappointment after another. I feel bad for clients who come and get services done here. (If their appt doesn't get canceled or rescheduled due to no teachers for class) The class time I have gotten same thing it's been very unimpressive the students basically do whatever they want or nothing at all. Don't waste your time or your money here looking for education you can go to so many other schools and get a quality one. read more

Took my kids in for cuts before school. My 10 year old walked out with the style he wanted, no problem. My 11 year olds bad fade was half assed, not blended well at all NOTHING was cut off the top at all. No line up done. NOTHING we talked about in the consultation was done. It looks halfway decent if his hair is brushed towards the front however in its natural state he has semi bowl cut. Smh. Now my 8 year old.. took her in to get hair straightened... they apparently do not have straightners?! Asked could they deep condition it and blow dry straight. Was told they could... the results were beyond mediocre.. not one ounce of product was used during the blowout. It wasnt even close to resembling straight. Had my baby looking like mufasa smh. Asked the receptionist was it typical to use no product during a blowout and she said product should have been used. I explained it wasnt and she just sort of stared at me. Oh and the instructor went to lunch during the service and the other instructor did not come back to check progress. Quite disappointed.
