They mentioned they have open studio for 2 hours every Tuesday and it's free if you bring in your painting from class. I will definitely be coming back to do some last touch ups on my painting! We've never worked with glass before, but the staff explained the decorative options well and had plenty of materials and tools available. The staff was always helpful and very friendly, and did a great job supervising the class and helping out when needed. We paid the extra $10 each to 'slump' our flat glass discs into bowl shape after they are melted. I would have liked a slightly curved plate option but that wasn't available. This requires a second run through the kiln, so the price is understandable. Sadly, it may take up to 4 weeks for the plates to finish the fusing process, although we saw some finished examples that looked gorgeous. I had one minor complaint, and that's only because I'm being nit-picky: the staff was hard to find sometimes during the class. There were plenty of staff members there, I just kept forgetting who they were since they didn't have nametags or aprons or anything to identify them.

I enjoyed the small class as it felt more personable and by the end all of us were chit chatting and having a great time. Our instructor Kim was very helpful and fun. The event was 3 hours which I think was perfect. I liked that we painted and then took small breaks to let the paint dry. It wasn't just paint, paint, paint. The shop is super cute and very clean. I can't wait to go back for another Sip n' Paint event or a glass fusion class! Kim said she wanted to try doing a jewelry making class which I would definitely attend! Mine had layered stencils and the paint was not dry enough for the second layer. Then a staff person took over my project to get us out the door. It's smeared and she got some stain that was also not dry, on the painted portion. This was a gift from my daughter, and our projects were both on the higher price end. She said she wanted to cry because it was supposed to be a special time and both of our projects were smeared and we were rushed out of there.

So when my coworkers planned a private party event at Board and Brush, the thought initially made me cringe. Board and Brush is a DIY workshop that teaches you how to make custom wood signs that you can use for décor pieces around your home. At $68 a project, I was hoping I wasn't going to be just wasting my money on a terrible looking piece of "art". I was SO wrong! This place was an absolute blast and I could not have had more fun. Our private party consisted of 16 people. The facility is BYOB and BYO snacks/food, which was awesome. They had tables set up for our food/drinks, to keep it out of the way while we worked. Weeks before our scheduled date, we picked our projects online and paid. There were SO many options, it was overwhelming! They all looked so cute too - it was hard to pick just one. They have everything from clocks to front porch welcome signs, entryway signs, trays, and height rulers for children. I settled on a 3 piece framed set for our home office. We were able to pay online as well, which was nice to not have to worry about the day of. Tawni is the store manager at this location. She is absolutely wonderful! She explained everything so clearly, and made our evening so much fun. There were also 2 other ladies with Tawni helping her throughout the night. Having 3 people walking around to help was really wonderful. At times, I think we all had questions, and there was always someone readily available to help. The shorthand version of what happens at Board and Brush is this: once you arrive and settle in, your "projects" are brought out to you (which at this point is just a blank piece of wood). You are in charge of sanding the wood, distressing the wood, staining the wood, applying your stencil, and finally painting. It sounds overwhelming, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Like I said, everything was explained so well and it is all done in steps. The entire experience from start to finish took 3 hours, and at the end I was left with an adorable piece of decor that I will be proud to hang in my my house! I cannot wait to book another reservation with my friends to do this again! I highly recommend checking out Board and Brush!

Instead of a painting that inevitably finds its way into the trash, you are left with a cool piece of art on wood that looks like it took way more skill than I possess to make. This store is located right on Fruitville Pike in Lancaster near the shoppes at belmont. When you register for the class you pick one of many designs they have to choose from. They have lots of really cool projects like clocks, monograms, holiday decor, etc. Every step of the project making process from sanding, screwing, staining, stenciling, and painting is facilitated by a lovely and knowledgeable staff member. Tawni helped our table and she certainly had her work cut out for her but she was fabulous and very helpful! Oh, and lest I forget, sipping is encouraged to facilitate the creative process as well. Imagine going to a bar with your friends but you get bring a custom wood sign home instead of giving the bar all your money with nothing to show for it! This location is relatively new to Shrewsbury, having opened earlier this fall. I gave it a try…read morewith two friends, and enjoyed it so much I came back several weeks later. They offer mainly wood projects where you can sign up online for specific design classes (typically seasonal ones) and customize some of the stencils. They also have open paint sessions with no registration needed where there are pre-made designs to choose from. Once you have your project, you pick your wood stain, and paint colors for the design from many options, of which they have preview boards of to see how it would look. I'm not a very creative person, but the owners are so nice and helpful on instructing you how to do each step and making suggestions if you want. It's nearly impossible to mess up with the stencils, and then you have a truly unique piece to put around your house! Some are better for inside, some are great porch decorations, but definitely try to find a friend and go support a local business.
